Abstract

Formaldehyde is a chemical substance that has the molecular formula H2-C=O. These chemicals are frequently present in the form of contaminants in the outdoor environment. Previous research has been undertaken to investigate the effects of formaldehyde inhalation on various organs such as the nasopharynx, upper respiratory tract, and lungs. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of inhaled formaldehyde exposure on kidney function. The parameters of the kidney function tests that were measured were urea and creatinine levels in the rat's blood serum. For 16 weeks, 12 male Wistar rats were used in an experimental investigation with a post-test-only control group design. The rats were divided randomly control and treatment groups. Treatment group exposed to 10% formaldehyde levels as high as 40 ppm by inhalation. Blood serum samples were obtained through the retro orbit at week 16 and analyzed using a UV VIS spectrophotometer. According to data analysis utilizing the Independent T-test, there was a significant difference in the urea content test data (p < 0.05). Mann-Whitney analysis of creatine data revealed that there is no significant difference between the groups. From the statistical analysis, it can be concluded that formaldehyde exposure has an effect on increasing urea levels and has no effect on creatinine levels.

Abstract

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is a structural spinal disorder commonly found in adolescents, characterized by an unknown cause of lateral curvature. This condition is typically detected during periods of rapid growth, particularly between the ages of 10 and 18. This literature review aims to provide a deeper understanding of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in general, as well as to explore the latest management criteria for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. The earlier AIS is detected and managed, the better the prognosis for the patient. The method used in this paper is a literature review. This review method involves searching for and examining reading Scholar, PubMed, and ProQuest regarding AIS. This paper summarizes the etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, classification, diagnosis, and available treatments including management and rehabilitation currently available.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a clinically and biologically heterogeneous disease with a wide range of etiologies and manifestations. ARDS contributes significantly to high morbidity, mortality, and treatment costs associated with lung disease incidence. This study aims to evaluate the clinical characteristics, diagnostic strategies, and effective management approaches in ARDS treatment to enhance clinical guidelines in intensive care practice. This study employs a literature review method by collecting relevant articles from scientific databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and Proquest. Selected articles are full-text publications in Indonesian and English, published between 2010 and 2023. A total of 15 articles that met the selection criteria were analyzed in this study. ARDS is a serious medical condition with a still concerning prognosis. Optimal management approaches, especially through the use of protective ventilation and prone positioning, have been shown to benefit patients. However, personalized therapy based on biomarkers and further molecular research is needed to further reduce mortality.
