Abstract

This study aims to analyze the survival strategies implemented by gold miners in Bulontio Timur Village, Sumalata District, North Gorontalo Regency. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that gold miners in Bulontio Timur Village rely on mining as their main source of income because agricultural products are not sufficient for their living needs, especially during the dry season or crop failures. In carrying out mining activities, miners must ask permission from the mine owner known as the "boss", with a clear and transparent profit-sharing system. Social capital, such as good social relations between miners and mine owners, plays an important role in the continuity of their work. Trust and social networks allow miners to survive in conditions full of uncertainty. In addition, loans from mine owners are also one of the common survival strategies used by miners when mining results are insufficient for their needs. This loan is usually in the form of money or other mining needs that will be repaid after the miners obtain mining results. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of income diversification, strengthening social capital, and managing economic uncertainty in the survival strategies of miners in Bulontio Timur Village. Abstract

This study aims to find out how the conflict that occurred between the community and the company, PT. Tri Jaya Tangguh, occurred in Motoduto Village, Boliyohuto District, Gorontalo Regency. The problem faced is community and company conflict, which was triggered by environmental pollution due to industrial wastewater that was channeled directly into the river and flowed into neighboring villages. The liquid waste discharged into the river creates a pungent smell; the color is brownish, and the odor from the waste disturbs the community around the company. The method used in this study is a qualitative method using a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques using observation, interview, and documentation techniques. The results showed that the conflict that occurred between the community and the company was triggered by environmental pollution due to industrial wastewater that was channeled into the river and created a pungent, brown odor. The smell from the sewage disturbs community activities in the study location. Besides that, a conflict resolution plan has been designed in which the company provides compensation in the form of an amount of money to the community; however, this compensation is considered by the community to have not been able to resolve the problems at the study site. The conflict that is happening at this time raises the determinants of conflict that do not get a solution. Until the end of this study, the problems at the study location had not found a meeting point.

Abstract

Education is one of the crucial aspects for broadening the knowledge of the nation's future generations. A similar situation is observed among the children of the Bajo tribe in Tinakin Laut Village, Banggai Laut Regency. In the past, the majority of them had low educational levels, necessitating awareness to encourage the Bajo community to value knowledge as much as possible. This research aims to understand the educational process for Bajo children in Tinakin Laut Village. The method employed in this study is a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods, involving data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The research data sources consist of primary and secondary data, with data analysis techniques including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results reveal several key findings. First, the education process in Tinakin Laut Village has undergone significant changes. In the past, the community there had little interest in education, but currently, the Bajo community has recognized the importance of education. Second, the education process in Tinakin Village is based on the willingness of children, parental encouragement and awareness, school support, and the influence of the surrounding environment. Third, the economic conditions in Tinakin Laut Village have improved, especially marked by increased job opportunities. Abstract

Abstract

Environmental pollution is a serious issue in the Talumolo Village at present, as the community's concern for environmental conservation has declined. In the daily lives of the Talumolo Village residents, many activities consciously threaten and disrupt environmental sustainability, one of which is the habit of indiscriminate waste disposal. This behavior leads to the accumulation of garbage that pollutes the body of the Bone River. The research aims to understand the behavior of urban communities in disposing of waste on the banks of the Bone River in the Talumolo Village, Dumbo Raya District, Gorontalo City. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results indicate that: First, waste management in the Talumolo Village community is still simple, based on knowledge of managing waste by collecting and burning it to reduce the accumulation of waste on the banks of the Bone River. Second, the emergence of littering behavior on the banks of the Bone River in the Talumolo Village is a result of the failure of one of the functions of the government system, namely providing facilities and infrastructure such as trash bins in the local community. Third, the emergence of the community's littering behavior on the banks of the Bone River is associated with four stages of the community behavior formation process: low public knowledge about waste management, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, imitation of the community in littering on the banks of the Bone River, and government appeals and prohibitions to the local community. Fourth, the impact of the community's littering behavior on the banks of the Bone River causes the river to appear dirty, become a breeding ground for diseases, and contribute to flooding disasters

Abstract

The current transformation in the utilization of online motorcycle taxi services, particularly Maxim, has shifted societal paradigms in leveraging these services to support daily activities. However, the dilemma arising from the mismatch between the nature of work and the income outcomes for Maxim drivers in Gorontalo City has sparked new debates and simultaneously posed challenges that require attention. This research aims to analyze the strategies employed by online motorcycle taxi drivers, specifically Maxim riders in Gorontalo City, focusing on three strategic approaches: active, passive, and networking strategies. The research methodology utilized in this study is qualitative. Twelve Maxim drivers and one employee from the Maxim office in Gorontalo City were involved as informants. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research findings reveal three main points. Firstly, drivers proactively seek additional opportunities, optimize working hours, and take initiatives to enhance their earnings. Secondly, passive strategies are also preferred by Maxim drivers in addressing economic challenges and competition. With a more relaxed approach and selective order management, they reduce risks and costs while striving to maintain reasonable income. Thirdly, networking strategies play a crucial role in Maxim drivers' efforts to survive. Building strong relationships with fellow drivers, business partners, and customers enables mutual support, information sharing, and business expansion. In conclusion, the collectively adopted strategies by Maxim drivers demonstrate their consistency in meeting primary and secondary needs. Their strategic choices reflect a multifaceted approach in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by the dynamics of online motorcycle taxi services.
