Abstract

The Nadran tradition is a longstanding cultural ritual integral to the life of fishing communities along the northern coast of Java Island, particularly in Muara Angke, North Jakarta. This ritual serves as an expression of gratitude for abundant marine resources and a plea for safety for fishermen in their maritime activities. Nadran embodies not only spiritual values but also local wisdom that promotes marine environmental conservation, social solidarity, and mutual cooperation within the fishing community. Despite facing challenges from modernization, urbanization, and social changes, this tradition continues to be maintained through various preservation efforts, including youth involvement, government support, and integration into cultural education and tourism. This study aims to explore the role of Nadran culture as a reflection of local wisdom and its preservation strategies in the modern era.

Abstract

The erosion of local cultural values in formal education systems has become a critical issue in the globalization era. This study aims to analyze the implementation of sipakatau (mutual humanization), sipakalebbi (mutual respect), and sipakainge (mutual reminder) values in elementary students' character formation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design in two elementary schools in South Sulawesi, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis over four months. Findings reveal that these values are implicitly implemented in school culture but lack formal curricular integration. This research contributes a conceptual model for integrating local values into contextual, wisdom-based character education.

Abstract

Preserving local culture from an early age is essential to maintain cultural heritage amid rapid modernization. One effort that can be implemented is through Reog Ponorogo traditional dance extracurricular activities. This study aims to describe the utilization of Reog Ponorogo extracurricular activities as a cultural preservation effort in elementary schools. The research employed a literature review method by analyzing relevant national journal articles published within the last five years. The findings indicate that Reog Ponorogo extracurricular activities function as a medium for cultural introduction, cultural preservation, and character development. Through these activities, students learn about the history, cultural values, philosophy, and regional identity embedded in Reog Ponorogo. The activities also contribute to increasing students’ cultural awareness, creativity, and self-confidence. However, challenges remain, including the influence of modern culture, declining interest in traditional arts, and limited supporting facilities. Therefore, support from various stakeholders is needed to optimize the implementation of Reog Ponorogo extracurricular activities as a sustainable cultural preservation strategy.

Abstract

The transition to 21st-century education calls for the transformation of interactive digital media to accommodate shifts in the learning styles of Year 5 primary school pupils. However, the dominance of global content in digital media poses a threat to the erosion of local cultural identity. This study aims to investigate, map, and synthesise strategies and the effectiveness of integrating local cultural philosophy (ethnoscience) through digital gamification in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) curriculum. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) design, adopting the standard PRISMA reporting protocol. Research trends and collaboration networks were mapped through bibliometric analysis using the VOSviewer software. A review of various primary literature sources indicates that: (1) there is a growing need to develop culture-based interactive media to address the gap in the literature regarding game mechanics; (2) the most effective strategy for cultural integration is to convert local philosophical values into game rules, mission narratives, and reward systems, rather than merely visual embellishments; and (3) the fusion of gamification and ethnoscience has been empirically proven to enhance students’ cognitive understanding of abstract scientific concepts, whilst simultaneously boosting intrinsic motivation and the relevance of learning. The conclusions of this study affirm that gamification infused with local wisdom is an innovative pedagogical solution that not only improves academic achievement in IPAS but also serves as an instrument for cultural preservation in the digital age.

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom into elementary school learning has garnered increasing attention alongside the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes contextual learning and the strengthening of the Pancasila Student Profile. This study aims to map the characteristics of existing research, synthesize key findings, and identify research gaps concerning the integration of local wisdom into elementary school learning in Indonesia during the period 2021–2025. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed using Google Scholar with keywords related to local wisdom, ethnopedagogy, ethnomathematics, ethnoscience, and elementary schools. Of the 347 articles initially identified, 20 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a thematic synthesis approach. The findings reveal four main themes: (1) the use of traditional games and culture-based media contributes to psychomotor, cognitive, social-emotional, and numeracy literacy development; (2) local wisdom serves as a means of strengthening character education and the Pancasila Student Profile; (3) the application of ethnomathematics and ethnoscience supports conceptual understanding, mathematical communication, and critical thinking skills; and (4) research gaps persist, characterized by a scarcity of studies focusing on early elementary grades, limited representation from eastern Indonesia, and a lack of experimental and longitudinal research. Overall, the integration of local wisdom demonstrates significant potential as a contextual and meaningful learning strategy; however, its implementation still requires enhanced teacher capacity and the development of locally relevant instructional materials. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for the development of instructional practices and more diverse, contextually grounded future research agendas.

Abstract

The way people interact and communicate has changed significantly in recent years. Activities that were once carried out through direct face-to-face interactions are now increasingly conducted through social media and various digital platforms. This shift has influenced the social values that have long been embedded in Indonesian society, including gotong royong (mutual cooperation), which is recognized as one of the nation's cultural identities. This study aims to analyze the transformation of social values in Indonesian society from the culture of mutual cooperation to digital culture, as well as to examine the challenges and opportunities for preserving social values in the digital era. The study employed a library research method by utilizing relevant national and international journal articles as the primary sources of data. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that digital technology has transformed patterns of social interaction from physical spaces to digital environments. Nevertheless, the value of mutual cooperation has not disappeared; instead, it has adapted into more contemporary forms, such as online fundraising, digital social campaigns, and virtual communities. On the other hand, the digital era has also introduced challenges, including increasing tendencies toward individualism and reduced face-to-face social interaction. Therefore, efforts to preserve social values are needed through character education, digital literacy, and the responsible use of technology while maintaining the principles of togetherness and social solidarity.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia's cultural diversity needs to be preserved through education by integrating local wisdom into the learning process. However, learning activities in schools are often less contextual because they do not adequately consider students' cultural backgrounds. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) based on Javanese local wisdom and to identify students' responses and engagement during the learning process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The study was conducted in Grade IV of SD Negeri Randusari involving 16 students. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and learning reflection, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that CRT was implemented by integrating Javanese local wisdom into Indonesian language learning through the use of the traditional song Suwe Ora Jamu, culture-based learning media, and learning activities connected to students' cultural experiences. The implementation of CRT created contextual and meaningful learning experiences. Students showed positive responses and active engagement during learning activities, including group discussions, problem-solving, presentations, and reflections. In addition, the integration of local culture contributed to the development of cultural awareness and appreciation of local cultural heritage. Therefore, CRT based on Javanese local wisdom can serve as an effective learning approach to create active, meaningful, and culturally responsive learning in elementary schools.
