Abstract

Problem-solving skills have become a key focus in mathematics education today. In mathematics class, students often face difficulties in solving non-routine problems or complex questions. This study aims to describe students’ difficulties in solving math problems involving fractions. This study employs a qualitative, descriptive research approach. The subjects of this study were 25 fifth-grade students at SDN 2 Paokmotong. The subjects were selected through purposive sampling, with three subjects chosen based on high, moderate, and low problem-solving ability categories. The data collection techniques used were a mathematics problem-solving test, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques in this study included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, the validity of the research data was tested using triangulation. The results of the study show that: 1) subjects in the high category experienced difficulties at the stage of implementing their problem-solving plans; 2) subjects in the moderate category experienced difficulties at the stages of planning the solution, implementing the solution plan, and checking their work; and 3) subjects in the low category experienced the most difficulties, namely difficulties in understanding the problem because they were unable to identify the given information in the problem. Difficulties in the planning stage for problems 1 and 4 stemmed from an inability to create an accurate mathematical model. Difficulties in the execution stage resulted from not knowing how to apply formulas or not having memorized them. Difficulties in the review stage arose from an inability to solve the problems correctly.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving ability of fourth-grade students on plane geometry topics, particularly the perimeter and area of squares, rectangles, and triangles. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of fourth-grade students at SDN 03 Paokmotong. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design. The research sample consisted of 50 fourth-grade students from SDN 03 Paokmotong. Data were collected through a mathematical problem-solving test and classroom implementation observation. The research instruments included a mathematical problem-solving test and an observation sheet for the implementation of the learning process. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the mean and standard deviation, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test, the Fisher homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing using the Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class was 78.68, which was higher than that of the control class, which was 62.56. The hypothesis test results indicated that the calculated t-value (tcount = 5.19) was greater than the critical t-value (ttable = 2.01) at the 0.05 significance level; therefore, H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. It can be concluded that the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model has a significant effect on the mathematical problem-solving ability of fourth-grade students at SDN 03 Paokmotong in learning plane geometry.

Abstract

This community service aims to describe the implementation of ecoprint activities in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) and its contribution to the development of creativity of fifth-grade students at SDN 15 Cakranegara. The initial problem found was the low creativity of students due to the lack of variety of handicraft activities that only focused on drawing, coloring, and copying patterns. This community service uses a project-based learning approach where students are given a project in the form of ecoprint preparation activities integrated into the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5). The main stages of this community service activity are: (1) introduction of the concept; (2) exploration of local leaves and flowers; (3) hammering process, & (4) to the finishing stage of the tote bag. This activity involved 35 fifth-grade students, class teachers, and P5 accompanying teachers. The results of the community service show that ecoprint activities are able to increase students' creativity through a series of stages of natural material exploration, leaf composition arrangement, hammering process, and work evaluation. Students demonstrated active involvement, courage to experiment, and the ability to produce original designs. The variety of tote bag motifs produced shows the development of divergent thinking skills and artistic expression. Furthermore, the ecoprint project also contributed to strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile, particularly in the dimensions of creativity, independence, mutual cooperation, and respect for nature. Exploration-based activities and group work encouraged students to collaborate, discuss, and appreciate the environment as a source of inspiration for their work. Thus, ecoprinting proved to be an effective, contextual, and relevant alternative craft activity for enhancing the creativity of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate the reliability and validity of a mathematical well-being scale for prospective elementary school teachers. A quantitative psychometric design was employed, using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to test the hypothesized factor structure. The study involved 204 prospective elementary school teachers in Indonesia, who completed a questionnaire assessing seven dimensions of mathematical well-being: accomplishment, cognition, engagement, meaning, perseverance, positive emotions, and relationships. Results indicated that all dimensions had significant factor loadings and good convergent validity, with Average Variance Extracted (AVE) values above 0.50 for most dimensions. Reliability tests showed high coefficients of omega (ω) and alpha (α), and Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio (HTMT) analysis indicated good discrimination among dimensions. The CFA model also demonstrated acceptable goodness-of-fit, with CFI = 0.93, TLI = 0.95, SRMR = 0.03, and RMSEA = 0.04. These findings confirm that the scale is valid and reliable, offering a useful tool to assess mathematical well-being among prospective elementary school teachers and informing the design of training programs to enhance the quality of mathematics teaching.
