Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that is still a public health problem, and one of the biggest causes of death in Indonesia. According to BPS, the number of elderly people in 2022 is around 30 million people and in 2050 will increase by 74 million people. This demographic shift shows that the elderly are an age group that deserves attention, especially in terms of Health. The impact of the Covid 19 pandemic coupled with decreased endurance and lung capacity that is not optimal, can cause the elderly to be susceptible to tuberculosis. The team of lecturers and students of FKK UMJ seeks to prevent tuberculosis by providing special education for elderly companions or caregivers at the Tresna Werdha Budi Mulya 1 social institution in East Jakarta. The event includes pre-test, education on the prevention and diagnosis of tuberculosis in the elderly, and post-test. T test results obtained p-value of 0.000, with an increase in the average knowledge after education of 6.72. It can be stated that educational activities for caregivers provide a significant increase in knowledge.

Abstract

In general, hypertension is an asymptomatic condition, namely abnormally high pressure in the arteries causing an increased risk of stroke, heart failure, heart attack, and kidney damage which is the leading cause of chronic heart failure. An unhealthy lifestyle and a history of hypertension can trigger hypertension. The community has an essential role in preventing non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and fostering a culture of clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) in the community. PHBS on the prevention of non-communicable diseases is implemented through the "CERDIK" activity, an acronym for "Regular health checks, Get rid of cigarette smoke, Diligent physical activity, healthy diet with balanced calories, Adequate rest and Manage stress." The purpose of this community service is to provide counseling to the elderly about CERDIK (regular health checks, getting rid of cigarette smoke, diligent physical activity, healthy diet and balanced nutrition, adequate rest, and managing stress). This activity consists of CERDIK Gymnastics, lectures/counseling, and questions and answers. The output of this activity is expected that the elderly can understand hypertension and apply CERDIK behavior.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a major non-communicable disease and the most common bone disease, affecting one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50 worldwide. The clinical consequence of osteoporosis is fragility fractures. With the rapid ageing of the population worldwide and the changes in lifestyle habits, the incidence of osteoporosis and related fractures has significantly increased and will continue to increase markedly in the future. Exercises such as walking, dancing, low-impact aerobics work directly on bones in the legs, hips and lower spine to slow bone loss. We provide osteoporosis prevention education to the elderly in nursing homes as an effort to prevent osteoporosis. We also provide training on joint and bone exercises to prevent osteoporosis.
