Abstract

Sweet potatoes in the Papuan Mountains region are very abundant and are sold without any processed variations. It is not uncommon for sweet potatoes to not sell even though the price is relatively cheap and affordable for all levels of society. For this reason, community service activities are carried out through community empowerment in implementing technology for processing and packaging sweet potato chips. The aim of this activity is to provide education to church youth (OMK) in Isakusa village to support increasing the income of church youth, and to support government programs in the agricultural sector. The method of implementing activities starts from determining the location, scheduling, socialization, making chips, and packaging the chips. The results of the training on processing and packaging sweet potato chips received a good response from the young people of St. Catholic Church (OMK). Stefanus Holima Wamena because during training it is not uncommon for the youth involved to show facial expressions that are curious, interested, happy and full of enthusiasm. Some of them said that they were very happy and satisfied with the products they had made and felt motivated to make them independently to sell to local people and local and foreign tourists as a form of home business that could increase their income. They also said that if possible, this kind of activity would be carried out sustainably by processing various types of basic materials which are superior in Wamena in particular and Mountain Papua in general.

Abstract

Abstract: Wamena is one of the areas with the potential to develop a wide variety of food crops and plantations in large and medium quantities because it is supported by its natural conditions. Wamena, especially throughout Jayawijaya Regency and even other Regencies in the Central Highlands of Papua, are known for their organic farming. In order to support and maintain the productivity of organic farming systems, as an academic activist in the agricultural sector, it is necessary to conduct training on making organic fertilizer through the use of banana weevils known as Local Microorganism Fertilizer (MoL). This training was based on observations of farmer groups in the Wesaput district, where all farmers in the farmer groups had never used organic liquid fertilizers or inorganic fertilizers as additional nutrients to increase the growth and production of their agricultural products. Therefore we try to provide understanding and approaches to farmer groups through community service on how to make Local Microorganism Liquid Fertilizer in order to increase the yields of local farmers in the Wesaput District, especially the village of Kama. As a result of this activity, we saw that the farmer group community in Wesaput gave a good response so they asked for similar activities to be carried out again so that the farmer group community was more independent in making and using liquid organic fertilizer using the natural resources around them.

Abstract

Innovations are required to increase the production of cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L), mainly due to the need for more quality land, such as dry land in Wamena. The innovation uses biological microorganisms that positively impact plants, such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). Therefore, this experiment aimed to determine the response of the growth and yield of cayenne pepper plants cultivated in dry land to the application of mycorrhiza. The research was conducted using a completely randomized design with one factor: the mycorrhizae dose (0, 20, 50, 80, and 120 g). The research results were analyzed using ANOVA, and the analysis process continued with the 5% level DMRT test. The research results on the growth of cayenne pepper are visible in the plant height parameters of the 80 g treatment (75 DAP: 93.4 cm) and the 120 g treatment (95 DAP: 103.3 cm). Then, the stem diameter parameter showed a real influence by the 120 g mycorrhiza treatment at 35 and 75 DAP and the 80 g mycorrhiza treatment at 95 DAP. The excellent response of plants to the 80 g and 120 g mycorrhiza treatments also impacted the plant's total chlorophyll content and the number of leaves produced, which then impacted the number of productive branches. So, the effect on the yield of cayenne pepper plants is that the number of fruits treated with 80 g of mycorrhiza was 89.7 fruits, with the weight of the heaviest cayenne pepper fruit being 68.0 g by the treatment of 120 g of mycorrhiza with a fresh weight of 17.6 g and a total dry plant of 10.2 g compared to the control. Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of various concentrations of Diwoka leaf extract (Piper miniatum Bl.) on the mortality of diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) on cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) in a laboratory scale. Diwoka leaf extract was applied at concentrations of 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%, with the mortality of the diamondback moth observed after five hours. The results showed that the higher the concentration of Diwoka leaf extract, the higher the mortality rate of the diamondback moth. At a concentration of 90%, mortality reached 97.50%, while at 40%, mortality was only 32.50%. These findings indicate that Diwoka leaf extract can function as an effective botanical pesticide in controlling diamondback moth on cabbage plants. This study contributes significantly to the development of alternative natural pesticides that are environmentally friendly and have the potential to be applied in sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Background: The conversion of livestock manure into organic fertilizer is quite safe and not difficult to do. Compost is believed to improve soil texture by making the soil more friable. In order to increase food security and raise awareness of the value of health and the beauty of the environment for farmer groups that raise pigs, this activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of farmers in Husoak Village. Contribution: Provide knowledge and enhance abilities for turning pig manure into compost that is good for cultivated plants, in increasing food security and farmers' knowledge about the importance of health and sustainability. Method: Conversation, Observation, and Socialization, providing assistance, engaging in manufacturing, and documenting Results: As evidenced by the number of farmers applying it—5 in total with 1 farmer serving as a pioneer in adopting the use of pig waste compost, which reduces odor pollution—the use of pig manure as compost is succeeding. Conclusion: that the compost processing training was completed within a month as planned, with the use of pig waste compost being observed in 5 farmers who had implemented the processing of pig manure into compost and had consumed the harvested products themselves. The next suggestion is to expand the use of composted pig manure as an agricultural input to ensure the sustainability of community agriculture

Abstract

This study compares the degree of adaptation of four shallot varieties introduced to the sub-optimal land of Wamena with one local variety. The study determined the physiological processes of plants observed 5 and 11 weeks after planting. The results show that the best-adapted shallot is the local variety which is indicated by the parameter of harvest index (0.820). In addition, the results showed that the local Wamena variety produced high production with a high assimilation rate (0.072 g/dm2week-1), had a leaf area (41,750 cm) and a high leaf area value (0.465 cm) even though it was indicated by treatment without fertilizer application. Liquid organic (control treatment). Compared with the introduced varieties, which showed no significant effect on each liquid organic fertilizer treatment level. The difference in responses shown by each variety is influenced by the genetic ability of each variety which is supported by environmental conditions.
