Abstract

This experimental study evaluated pumpkin–skipjack tuna composite biscuits as a locally adaptable complementary snack for stunted toddlers. Using a completely randomized design with one control and four formulations, we quantified protein and iron and assessed sensory acceptance with 20 semi-trained adult panelists. Compared with the pumpkin-only control (3.37% protein), the best formulation (D: 461 g pumpkin; 125 g skipjack tuna) achieved 9.07% protein—an absolute gain of 5.70 percentage points and a 169% relative increase (t-test p = 0.025). Iron differed nonsignificantly across groups (e.g., formulation D descriptively higher), indicating matrix effects that warrant bioavailability testing. Focusing on key outcomes rather than detailed hedonic scores, we found formulation D to be most acceptable overall. A practical translation suggests a ~50 g serving could supply ~35–40% of the toddler protein RDA, while iron contributions remain uncertain pending bioavailability evidence. The sensory panel comprised adults (not toddlers), so future caregiver-assisted trials are needed to confirm end-user acceptance and safe portion sizes. In sum, moderate inclusion of skipjack tuna flour meaningfully enhances protein density without compromising acceptance, supporting the development of shelf-stable, culturally familiar snacks for nutrition programs targeting stunting; iron claims should remain cautious until bioavailability is established. Dibandingkan kontrol berbasis labu saja (protein 3,37%), formulasi terbaik (D: 461 g labu; 125 g tepung ikan cakalang) mencapai protein 9,07%—kenaikan absolut 5,70 poin persentase dan peningkatan relatif 169% (uji t, p = 0,025). Secara praktis, takaran saji ±50 g diperkirakan memenuhi ≈35–40% Angka Kecukupan Gizi protein balita, sementara kontribusi zat besi masih belum pasti sebelum bukti bioavailabilitas tersedia. Panel sensori terdiri atas orang dewasa (bukan balita), sehingga uji coba dengan pendampingan pengasuh diperlukan untuk mengonfirmasi penerimaan pengguna akhir dan keamanan takaran saji. Disimpulkan, inklusi moderat tepung ikan cakalang secara bermakna meningkatkan densitas protein tanpa menurunkan penerimaan, mendukung pengembangan camilan stabil-simpan yang akrab secara budaya bagi program gizi untuk penurunan stunting; klaim terkait zat besi perlu tetap hati-hati hingga bioavailabilitas terverifikasi.

Abstract

Adolescent reproductive health is a crucial issue in improving the quality of human resources in Indonesia. Lack of knowledge and awareness among adolescents regarding reproductive health can lead to risky behaviors, such as unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. This community service activity aimed to empower adolescents as change agents (peer educators) in reproductive health campaigns in Assisted Village X, Y District. The methods used included training, group discussions, educational simulations, and mentoring during community campaigns. Thirty adolescents aged 14–18 years participated in the program. Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test questionnaires and direct observation. The results showed a 60% increase in knowledge, as well as improved communication skills and confidence in delivering health information. This activity demonstrates that adolescent empowerment is effective in developing their capacity as agents of change in the community while strengthening promotive and preventive efforts in reproductive health.

Abstract

Monitoring a child's growth and development is essential for every parent. Ideally, this should be done every three months as an early detection measure for developmental delays. One early detection method that can be used is the DDST II. The purpose of this activity was to measure children's growth and development using the DDST II examination method in the Ralla Community Health Center (Puskesmas) in Barru Regency. Twenty toddlers participated in this activity. The DDST II method assesses four aspects of child development: personal-social, fine motor skills, language, and gross motor skills. The results of this activity indicate whether the child's development is appropriate for their age or if there are any delays. If there are delays, parents will be provided with motivation and education to stimulate their child. A re-examination at the nearest Puskesmas will be recommended one week later.

Abstract

Maternal mortality during childbirth is a global concern, and in Indonesia, this issue remains significant. According to the Ministry of Health (Depkes) in 2020, the primary cause of maternal mortality during childbirth is hemorrhage (28%). Anemia and energy deficiency are the main contributing factors to hemorrhage. Preventing iron-deficiency anemia can be achieved through the use of tablet supplements containing 200 mg ferrous sulfate + 0.25 mg folic acid (Fe tablets). Therefore, the level of coverage and compliance among pregnant mothers in consuming iron tablets becomes an intriguing subject for investigation. This research aims to identify determinant factors influencing the compliance of pregnant mothers in consuming iron tablets at the Barrang Lompo Island Community Health Center in Makassar in the year 2023. Method: This study employs a non-experimental quantitative research design utilizing a cross-sectional approach. The study is conducted at the Maternal and Child Health Clinic of the Barrang Lompo Island Community Health Center in Makassar from April to June 2023. The sample size for this research is 38 individuals, selected using Non-Probability Sampling, specifically Purposive Sampling. The data is analyzed using the chi-square test. Research findings indicate that the factors influencing pregnant mothers' compliance in consuming iron tablets during pregnancy exhibit low p-values. The p-values are as follows: 0.00 for knowledge, 0.01 for attitude, 0.00 for family support, and 0.01 for healthcare provider motivation. This demonstrates a significant relationship between these factors and the compliance of pregnant mothers in maintaining iron tablet intake during pregnancy, at a significance level of α = 0.05. Conclusion: Knowledge, attitude, family support, and healthcare provider motivation significantly influence the compliance of pregnant mothers in consuming iron tablets.
