In this study, a qualitative research design is used. Ten junior high school students in the second grade who had been using the Duolingo app for longer than seven days participated in this study. Students completed questionnaires and conducted interviews in order to collect data. The research's conclusions show that most students concur that using the Duolingo app can facilitate English language learning. According to the results of the questionnaires and interviews conducted by the researchers, students believed that the Duolingo app had a lot of beneficial effects on their language learning, including increasing their motivation to learn, practicing, and using their language skills in everyday situations. Aside from that, students who used the Duolingo app made improvements in a variety of language domains, including syntax and pronunciation proficiency, vocabulary knowledge and ease of memorization, and process facilitation of the English language proficiency improvement process. Future researchers are the target audience for this, according to the research findings. In order to explore more aspects of the Duolingo application and its use in English language instruction, researchers intend to conduct more thorough studies with a larger sample size in the future.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well senior high school students' reading comprehension is improved by the Gallery Walk approach. This study uses an experimental group design, control pretest and posttest, and quantitative quasi-experimental methodology. The sample size for this research consisted of a total of 60 high school students from two classes: 30 students in the experimental class (class X-1) and 30 students in the control class (class X-2). The final results of the experimental class that used the Gallery Walk strategy showed a higher level of reading comprehension, namely 53.33% compared to the control class, only 16.67% of students who succeeded in the test. Statistical analysis revealed significant improvements in post-test scores among students in the experimental group, indicating the efficacy of the Gallery Walk technique. Validity and reliability tests confirmed the robustness of the research instrument. The findings suggest that the Gallery Walk technique fosters active learning, develops critical thinking skills, and enhances reading comprehension abilities among high school students. This study contributes valuable insights into innovative teaching strategies for improving reading comprehension in English education. Beyond the intervention itself, any potential contributing variables to the observed differences between the experimental and control groups should be taken into account when interpreting the results. Keywords: Gallery Walk; Pre-test; Post-test; Reading Comprehension; SHS students.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a fundamental component of language learning and is essential for developing effective communication skills. This study investigates the perceptions of pre-service English teachers regarding the effectiveness of the Gizmo application as a tool for enriching English vocabulary. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected from 10 pre-service teachers in an English education program through the use of questionnaires and structured interviews. The results of the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while the interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings reveal four main themes: (1) Gizmo effectively enriches students’ vocabulary by providing exposure to new and contextualized vocabulary, (2) it serves as a medium that fits students' individual learning needs, especially due to its flexibility and personalized vocabulary input, (3) the application offers interactive, fun, and helpful features such as quizzes and repetition that motivate learners, and (4) it increases learners’ interest and confidence in using English vocabulary. Most participants expressed ingness in using Gizmo in their future teaching practices, while one participant felt the app was too basic for advanced learners. The study demonstrates that Gizmo has the potential to be a valuable digital tool in English language teaching, particularly in vocabulary enrichment. These findings are expected to provide valuable insights for educators, teacher trainers, and developers of language learning technologies, particularly in the context of mobile-assisted language learning (MALL).

Abstract

Improving the quality of education is determined by the implementation of education management standards. An important factor for the success of learning is decided by the teacher's insight into classroom management. Library research is used to find answers to a problem by carrying out some activities to collect, process, and conclude data. Based on the data in this study, it was concluded that the objectives of classroom management: 1) to create conducive classroom situations and conditions, 2) to eliminate obstacles in teaching and learning interactions, 3) to provide and manage learning facilities, 4) to foster and to guide according to individual characteristics. There are three components in classroom management, namely: physical conditions, socio-emotional conditions, and organizational conditions. Actions that need to be taken in managing the class are preventive actions, corrective actions, and curative actions.

Abstract

This study explores English Department students' perceptions of using the Falou application to improve their English speaking skills through a descriptive qualitative approach. Three students from the English Department at Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara in Medan, North Sumatra, were selected using purposive sampling and interviewed using semi-structured interviews to examine their experiences with the application. Grounded in Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) theoretical framework, the research addressed three key questions: students' perceptions of Falou's effectiveness, the most beneficial features, and challenges encountered during usage. Data analysis using thematic analysis revealed predominantly positive perceptions, with participants reporting increased confidence and improved speaking practice opportunities. The most effective features identified were pronunciation training with immediate feedback (94.4% positive rating), oral practice sessions with progressive structure (88.9%), conversation simulations providing realistic scenarios (88.9%), and comprehensive speaking assessments (77.8%). However, participants also faced significant technical challenges including audio quality fluctuations (61.1% reported concerns), network connectivity issues (61.1%), voice recognition delays (mixed ratings with only 38.9% positive), and severely limited offline access capabilities (only 5.6% found it adequate). The findings suggest that while mobile applications like Falou offer promising opportunities for autonomous English speaking practice among Indonesian university students, successful implementation requires robust technical infrastructure, comprehensive user support, and pedagogical design that addresses diverse learner needs in developing country contexts where internet connectivity remains inconsistent

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine how much influence the kahoot application has in evaluating junior high school students' word mastery which can be improved through the Kahoot application as a learning medium. This study used a quantitative approach. The sample size for this study consisted of 35 junior high school students in one class, namely class 8-3. The use of Kahoot in this study went through pre-test and post-test stages. The results of student assessment in the pretest or before the application of learning media reached an average of 74.85 with a poor category, and the results of student assessment in the posttest or after the application of Kahoot learning media reached an average of 83.00 with a good category. Therefore, there is a difference between the pretest and posttest results. The Shared Sample Test results show that the significant value (sig2-tailed) of 0.006 is below 0.05, which indicates that the t-table is the t-statistic. Therefore, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which indicates that students of class VIII-3 of SMP IT Daarul Istiqlal Marindal I experienced a much greater increase in vocabulary after using Kahoot learning media.

Abstract

Vocabulary acquisition remains a persistent challenge for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, particularly in higher education settings where traditional methods often fail to engage students or promote long-term retention. In response, mobile puzzle-based learning tools such as the Figgerits application offer an alternative that integrates contextual learning and cognitive engagement. This study explores EFL university students’ perceptions of using Figgerits for vocabulary enrichment within an Indonesian tertiary context. Using a qualitative case study design, 25 English Education students from a university in Medan participated in the study over a 2–4-week period. Participants were selected purposively and provided informed consent. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and follow-up in-depth interviews, then analysed using thematic analysis. Findings indicate that most students perceived Figgerits as effective across five interrelated dimensions: vocabulary breadth, depth, contextual understanding, retention and usage, and metalinguistic awareness. Students reported increased motivation and exposure to unfamiliar vocabulary through clues embedded in meaningful contexts, which encouraged repeated encounters and deeper word processing. Despite occasional difficulty with unfamiliar logic-based tasks, learners expressed strong preference for the app’s interactive and autonomous nature. These findings highlight the potential of puzzle-based, mobile-assisted tools to enhance vocabulary learning in EFL environments. Future studies should explore long-term impacts and adaptation across diverse learner profiles.
