Abstract

The increase in the earth's temperature causes extreme climate change which affects the microclimate around plants. Practice of agroforestry is increasingly recognized as an effective land management system that integrates forestry species with agricultural crops to enhance ecological and economic functions. This study focuses on evaluating the role of coffee-based agroforestry practices on microclimate elements and soil physical properties in Lanjan Village, Central Java. The research is driven by the need to understand how shade trees in agroforestry systems influence environmental conditions and support sustainable agriculture, particularly in coffee cultivation. A field-based experimental approach was employed, involving observations and measurements of microclimatic parameters (temperature and humidity) and soil physical characteristics (bulk density). The formulated hypothesis posits that agroforestry practices significantly alter the microclimate and physical characteristics of the soil. The findings confirm that agroforestry has a substantial impact on shaping key microclimatic elements, notably by reducing ambient air temperature and increasing air humidity under tree shade. Additionally, the system exhibits a statistically significant influence on bulk density, indicating an improvement in soil structure and potential for enhanced fertility. Overall, the research highlights that agroforestry systems not only support crop productivity but also contribute positively to microclimate regulation and soil physical health. These insights underscore the importance of integrating shadeas a sustainable land management strategy, particularly in regions experiencing climate variability and soil degradation.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of shoot pruning and the application of MKP (Monopotassium Phosphate) foliar fertilizer on melon seed production (Cucumis melo L.) in a hydroponic system. The study was conducted in Jember, East Java, using a randomized block factorial design (RAK) involving two treatment factors: shoot pruning (C1: no pruning, C2: pruning at the 20th node, C3: pruning at the 25th node) and MKP foliar fertilizer application (M1: 3 g/liter, M2: 5 g/liter), with four replicates. The parameters observed included fruit weight, number of viable seeds per fruit, fruit diameter, and weight of 1000 seeds. The results showed that pruning at the 20th node and applying a concentration of 5 g/liter of MKP (C2M2) yielded the highest results in terms of fruit weight (583,585 grams), fruit diameter (10,527 cm), and weight of 1000 seeds (18,057 grams). Meanwhile, pruning at the 20th node and applying a concentration of 3 g/liter of MKP (C2M1) produced optimal results for the parameter of number of viable seeds per fruit, which was 325,750 seeds.

Abstract

Padi aromatik varietas Sintanur memiliki nilai jual tinggi karena aroma khas dan kualitas beras premium, namun rentan terhadap cekaman kekeringan akibat perubahan iklim. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh cekaman kekeringan terhadap kandungan klorofil, prolin, dan kerapatan stomata sebagai indikator fisiologis toleransi kekeringan pada padi aromatik Sintanur. Penelitian dilakukan di Greenhouse Program Studi Agronomi dan Laboratorium CDAST Universitas Jember dengan rancangan acak lengkap non-faktorial, lima taraf perlakuan kapasitas lapang (kontrol, 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%), enam ulangan. Parameter yang diamati meliputi kandungan klorofil menggunakan SPAD-10, prolin dengan metode Bates (1973), dan kerapatan stomata melalui cetakan cat kuku. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dan dilanjutkan uji DMRT 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kandungan klorofil menurun signifikan seiring meningkatnya cekaman kekeringan, terutama pada taraf 80%, 60%, dan 40% kapasitas lapang. Sebaliknya, kandungan prolin meningkat, berperan sebagai osmoprotektan dan penetral radikal bebas, menjaga turgor sel di bawah kondisi stres. Kerapatan stomata juga menurun pada cekaman berat sebagai mekanisme adaptasi untuk mengurangi kehilangan air, meskipun varietas Sintanur menunjukkan kerapatan stabil pada kapasitas lapang 100%. Ketiga parameter ini menjadi indikator penting dalam seleksi varietas padi aromatik toleran kekeringan. Sintanur menunjukkan respons adaptif pada cekaman sedang, namun performanya menurun drastis pada kekeringan berat, sehingga diperlukan program pemuliaan lanjutan.

Abstract

Pemanfaatan cendawan entomopatogen Verticillium lecanii sebagai langkah awal pengendalian secara hayati guna menekan penggunaan bahan kimia yang berpotensi menimbulkan dampak negative bagi lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses perakitan instalasi aerasi sederhana, pembuatan media biakan, serta pelaksanaan aerasi dan fermentasi dalam perbanyakan pestisida hayati berbahan aktif Verticillium lecanii. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada minggu ketiga Oktober hingga minggu keempat November 2025 di PT Sirtanio Banyuwangi serta Laboratorium Produksi Tanaman Jurusan Pertanian Politeknik Negeri Banyuwangi. Alat yang digunakan meliputi jerigen plastik, aerator, selang aerasi, dan ozonizer, sedangkan bahan yang digunakan berupa kentang, gula, ebi, air, serta isolat Verticillium lecanii. Metode yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode eskperimental yang meliputi tahap observasi, perakitan instalasi, pembuatan media, inokulasi hingga pemanenan. Media cair dibuat dari ekstrak kentang yang diperkaya gula dan ebi, kemudian disterilisasi menggunakan ozonizer, diaerasi selama 24 jam, diinokulasi isolat Verticillium lecanii, dan difermentasi selama 14 hari dengan aerasi kontinu. Hasil fermentasi menunjukkan bau segar khas fermentasi dan warna putih pucat yang mengindikasikan pertumbuhan miselium serta biomassa jamur berlangsung optimal tanpa adanya kontaminasi. Dengan demikian, instalasi aerasi sederhana mampu menciptakan kondisi fermentasi yang stabil dan mendukung keberhasilan produksi pestisida hayati Verticillium lecanii.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengarakterisasi sifat morfologi dan fisiologi beberapa varietas padi lokal Banyuwangi sebagai bahan dasar perakitan varietas unggul baru yang adaptif, produktif, dan tahan cekaman lingkungan. Pengamatan karakter morfologi dilakukan mengikuti panduan IRRI terhadap parameter seperti bentuk dan ukuran daun, malai, anakan, serta biji. Karakter fisiologi dianalisis melalui kerapatan stomata dan kandungan klorofil. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya keragaman fenotipik yang signifikan antarvarietas padi lokal Banyuwangi, meliputi karakter daun, jumlah dan produktivitas anakan, bentuk malai, serta ukuran biji. Varietas HR1 memiliki panjang dan luas daun terbesar, sedangkan varietas A3 menunjukkan jumlah anakan produktif tertinggi. Variasi kerapatan stomata antarvarietas mencerminkan perbedaan potensi efisiensi pertukaran gas dan kemampuan adaptasi terhadap lingkungan. Kandungan klorofil, terutama klorofil a, lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan klorofil b pada seluruh varietas, dengan nilai tertinggi tercatat pada varietas BR1. Hubungan positif antara parameter morfologi dan fisiologi menunjukkan bahwa varietas dengan kombinasi luas daun, jumlah anakan produktif tinggi, dan kandungan klorofil besar memiliki kapasitas fotosintesis serta potensi hasil yang lebih baik. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya pemanfaatan keragaman sifat morfologi dan fisiologi padi lokal dalam mendukung program pemuliaan untuk menghasilkan varietas unggul baru yang adaptif terhadap perubahan lingkungan dan dapat meningkatkan ketahanan pangan nasional.

Abstract

[OPTIMIZING CORN (Zea mays L.) GROWTH THROUGH FERTILIZATION BASED ON IOT SOIL SENSOR ANALYSIS. Corn (Zea mays L.) plays an important role in Indonesia's agricultural sector as a source of food, animal feed, and industrial raw materials. However, the main challenge in cultivation is improper fertilization, which can reduce yields and damage the environment. Efficient and sustainable fertilization is necessary to increase productivity. Internet of Things (IoT)-based soil sensor technology provides a solution by providing accurate data on soil conditions that help with fertilization efficiency. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of fertilization variations adjusted to the results of IoT-based soil sensor analysis on corn plant growth. The study was conducted in Labanasem Village, Banyuwangi Regency, from July to September 2025, using a non-factorial randomized block design (RBD) with four treatments, namely conventional, chemical, balanced, and organic fertilization, repeated six times. Data were collected using IoT soil sensors to analyze pH, moisture, temperature, and nutrients. Fertilization was carried out at 20, 35, and 55 days after planting for conventional and chemical fertilizers, while balanced and organic fertilizers followed the dosage recommendations from the IoT system. The results showed that balanced fertilization did not differ significantly from conventional and chemical fertilization in terms of plant growth parameters, including plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, leaf area index, and flowering age (p > 0.05). Organic fertilization showed significantly different results (p < 0.05), but balanced fertilization was more efficient in reducing input costs and supporting agricultural sustainability compared to organic fertilization, as well as supporting agricultural sustainability. IoT-based soil sensor technology can improve fertilization precision and support fertilizer use efficiency.based soil sensors and balanced fertilization is recommended to increase corn production efficiently and sustainably.

Abstract

Domestic waste is one of the largest contributors of waste to the environment. The side effects of improper waste processing are environmental contamination. Public awareness of the impact for domestic waste management must be emphasized. This program was conducted with the farmer association of Bangsring, Banyuwangi Regency. The purpose of this program is to encourage local community awareness of environmental sustainability and provide knowledge of the importance of utilizing and processing domestic waste into Eco-Enzyme. This program is implemented through several main stages that refer to the indicators of the success of the community service program, namely: (1) survey to obtain problems and determine problem solving; (2) socialization; (3) training of eco-enzyme production; (4) monitoring and evaluation. The training of eco-enzyme production in Bangsring was successfully implemented, and the community has responded well to it. This is evidenced by the enthusiasm of the participants during discussions and practices of producing eco-enzyme, all the way through to harvesting the eco-enzyme's output and implementing it.

Abstract

Cocofiber residue from cocopeat processing in Kedayunan Village has not been productively processed because PKK members have limited access to simple processing technology. This program aimed to strengthen participants' capacity to produce eco-friendly coco pots. Participatory training and mentoring were conducted on 6 May 2026 with 25 participants, covering needs identification, environmental education, wire frame fabrication, cocofiber arrangement, finishing, and evaluation. Data were collected through observation, documentation, a 10-item pretest–posttest, and a five-criterion skills rubric. The mean knowledge score increased from 88% to 96%, an increase of 8 percentage points. More importantly, participants converted prior knowledge into practical experience and collectively produced 28 cylindrical prototypes with a diameter of approximately 17 cm. The main constraints were inconsistent frame dimensions, uneven fiber density, and inconsistent surface finishing. Verified short-term outcomes included improved understanding, basic product-making skills, and working prototypes; economic and environmental impacts have not yet been measured. Follow-up actions should prioritize product standardization, durability testing, cost calculation, branding, and local marketing through PKK networks and village institutions.
