Abstract

Figs (Ficus racemosa L.) are an essential source of bioactive components such as phenols, terpenoids, flavonoids, and alkaloids with antioxidant properties. Two extraction methods are used to extract flavonoids from figs: conventional and non-conventional. This study aimed to determine the effect of different extraction methods—maceration and Microwave Assisted Extraction (MAE)—on the total flavonoid content in figs (Ficus racemosa L.). The research was conducted using a laboratory experimental method. The procedures included collecting and preparing plant materials, producing simplicia, evaluating simplicia characteristics, conducting phytochemical screening, preparing extracts, and determining total flavonoid content. The results showed that the maximum wavelength of quercetin was 438 nm, with a regression equation of Y = 0.0669x + 0.0084. The average absorbance values of fig extract using the maceration method were 0.216 with methanol, while the MAE method was 0.280 with methanol. The average percentage of flavonoid content using the maceration method was 0.1245% with methanol, while with the MAE method, it was 0.1623% with methanol. The total flavonoid content of fig extract using the maceration method was 1.2451 mgQE/g extract with methanol, while with the MAE method, it was 1.6238 mgQE/g extract with methanol. The study concluded that the highest total flavonoid content was found in the methanol extract obtained through MAE. This extract had a value of 1.6238 mgQE/g extract.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to evaluate the teratogenic effect caused by theprovision of Arabica coffee solution with variations of 0.36 ml, 0.72 ml and 1.08 ml withpositive control of caffeine at a dose of 300 mg / kg bw to rats during organogenesis. Themeasurement parameters in this study are the appearance of reproduction, externalmalformations and scalal malformations. The results in this study found that theadministration of Arabica coffee solution with a volume of 1.08 ml and caffeine 300 mg /kg bb caused an abnormality in the reproductive appearance of weight loss and body length, whereas for extrenal malformation and scalal malforation no abnormalities were found ineach administration of the solution Arabica coffee and caffeine.

Abstract

Infections caused by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) remain a major health concern due to their resistance to commonly used antibiotics, driving interest in safe and effective natural-based alternatives. This community service program introduced an antibacterial nanoemulgel formulated from combined extracts of Curcuma xanthorrhiza (temulawak) and Curcuma zedoaria (temu putih) to residents of Paya Mabar Village, Stabat District, Langkat Regency.  The activities included interactive education on the dangers of bacterial resistance, a demonstration of nanoemulgel preparation, and small group discussions to explore participants’ understanding of modern herbal-based treatments. Community members showed strong enthusiasm, reflected in active participation and improved awareness of antibiotic resistance and the potential of local medicinal plants. The outcomes indicated that a combined educational and hands-on approach effectively enhanced public knowledge of infection prevention and encouraged appreciation for natural ingredients as innovative health solutions. The community recognized nanoemulgel as a bridge between traditional wisdom and modern pharmaceutical technology.

Abstract

Typhoid fever is an acute infection of the small intestine which causes digestive disorders and can reduce the level of consciousness. The treatment option in cases of typhoid fever is to use antibiotics. Optimizing the use of antibiotics can be done by monitoring and evaluating the use of antibiotics in hospitals. The aim of this research is to determine the type and rationale for the use of antibiotics in typhoid fever patients at the Cut Mutia General Hospital Inpatient Installation. This research method is non-experimental (observational) research which is analyzed using descriptive methods. The population in this study was all 1423 typhoid fever patients at Cut Meutia General Hospital in 2022-2023. The sample used in this research was 93 respondents using the Slovin formula with purposive sampling technique. Data analysis for this study used quantitative data analysis, namely descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed that the type of antibiotic in typhoid fever patients was mostly the cephalosporin group, namely Ceftriaxon, in 54 patients (58.1%). Evaluation of the use of antibiotics in typhoid fever patients was 100% correct indication, correct patient and drug and 95.7% correct dose. The conclusion of this research is that it is hoped that hospitals will promote the rational use of antibiotics and collaborate with all parties, including hospitals, health professionals and pharmaceutical installations, in preventing antibiotic resistance.
