Abstract

The use of social media among elementary school students is no longer limited to communication, but has also become part of their daily entertainment and interaction. This study discusses how teachers at SDIT Nurul Hikmah Sidoarjo guide students in understanding digital literacy, especially in relation to TikTok, WhatsApp, and Roblox as a digital gaming platform with social interaction features. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation. The participants were 60 students from grade II and grade VI, along with four teachers who were actively involved in classroom learning and school digital activities. Field data showed that all students were familiar with the three platforms. In grade II, 17 students already used their own mobile phones, while in grade VI the number reached 23 students. Most students accessed digital media after school, during free time, or on holidays. Teacher guidance was carried out through classroom reminders, discussion of digital ethics, Islamic values, technology-based projects, and communication with parents. Several problems also appeared, such as reduced concentration, imitation of TikTok expressions, frequent talks about online games, and limited social interaction among some students. These findings show that digital literacy in elementary school needs continuous guidance from both teachers and parents.

Abstract

Early reading skills are a key foundation in the learning process of elementary school students. However, some students still face difficulties in understanding letters and language sounds, particularly with double consonants. This study aims to explore the early reading process through the use of a moveable alphabet in the Montessori approach among first-grade students in the International Class Program (ICP) at MI Masjid Al Akbar Surabaya. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. The research subjects consisted of the classroom teacher and five students experiencing reading difficulties: RK, MI, MM, AT, and FH. The research data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Subsequently, the data were analyzed using an interactive model comprising data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research findings revealed that the use of a movable alphabet combined with flashcards and interactive learning activities can enhance student engagement. Additionally, these materials help students recognize letters, understand the relationship between letters and sounds, and construct simple vocabulary. This approach also strengthens phonetic and phonological aspects, particularly in developing phonological awareness and decoding skills. Thus, the implementation of the movable alphabet in the Montessori approach is effective as an alternative strategy for early reading instruction. The practical implications of this study suggest that teachers can utilize concrete and multisensory materials in a structured manner to support students facing early reading difficulties in lower grades.

Abstract

Abstract

Character education in primary schools requires learning strategies that integrate authentic experiences with the development of positive values among students. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Business Day program, analyze character development through this best practice, and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation at SD Islam Surya Buana Malang. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed using thematic analysis supported by source and technique triangulation to ensure data credibility. The findings revealed that Business Day was implemented through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages involving students actively in every process. The program fostered independence, responsibility, honesty, discipline, collaboration, communication, creativity, self-confidence, social awareness, and problem-solving skills through experiential learning. Its successful implementation was supported by the school's commitment, teachers' roles as facilitators, parental involvement, and students' active participation, while challenges related to students' confidence, financial transaction skills, and limited implementation time became valuable learning experiences. Therefore, Business Day can be regarded as a best practice in entrepreneurship-based character education that is worthy of replication in primary schools and Islamic elementary schools.
