Abstract

Antibacterial is a compound used to control the growth of harmful bacteria. Mangrove plants are strongly suspected to have bioactive content, the bioactive content contained in mangrove plants is useful in the pharmaceutical field as a medicinal ingredient. Sonneratia alba root contains secondary metabolite compounds Flavanoids, tannins and alkaloids that act as antibacterials. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of S.alba ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and Escherichia coli bacteria. Extraction method by maceration, long extraction time 3 days. The extract obtained is then evaporated solvent in the rotary evaporator then the extract results are made concentrations of 25?g, 50?g, 100?g, and 150?g. antibacterial testing using the Kirby-Bauer method. The results showed that at concentrations of 25?g, 50?g, 100?g, and 150?g Sonneratia alba mangrove roots had antibacterial activity. But those that have strong antibacterial activity in Escherichia coli bacteria are at a concentration of 50? with while in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are at a concentration of 150?g with an inhibitory zone of 18.6mm, and in Escherichia coli bacteria with an inhibitory zone of 18,3mm.

Abstract

Sea grapes (Caulerpa racemosa) contain various secondary metabolites with bioactive compounds that function as antibacterial agents. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract from sea grapes (Caulerpa racemosa) against Helicobacter pylori. The method used was the agar diffusion technique with paper discs at four different extract concentrations: 500 µg, 600 µg, 700 µg, and 800 µg per disc. Extraction was carried out through maceration using 96% ethanol as the solvent, and antibacterial activity was assessed based on the formation of inhibition zones around the discs. The results showed that all extract concentrations exhibited very strong inhibitory effects on the growth of H. pylori, with inhibition zones of 27.23 mm, 28.51 mm, 29.91 mm, and 31.51 mm, respectively. The higher the extract concentration, the larger the inhibition zone formed. Based on antibacterial activity categorization, Caulerpa racemosa extract demonstrates potential as a strong antibacterial agent against Helicobacter pylori.

Abstract

Rhaphidophora pinnata (dragon tail leaf) has traditionally been used as a medicinal plant for treating wounds. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract on incision wound healing in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study employed a laboratory experimental design using 15 rats divided into five treatment groups: negative control (aquades), positive control (povidone iodine), and topical extract concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 25%. Wound length was measured daily for 14 days. Statistical analysis using paired sample t-test showed a significant difference between pre-treatment and post-treatment wound conditions (p = 0.000 < 0.05; t = 5.391). The results demonstrated that all extract concentrations accelerated wound closure, with the 25% concentration showing the greatest healing effect and complete wound closure by day 14. These findings indicate that Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract is effective in promoting incision wound healing, particularly at a concentration of 25%.

Abstract

Malay apple leaves (Syzygium malaccense L.) have traditionally been used to reduce fever. This study aimed to evaluate the antipyretic activity of the ethanol extract of Malay apple leaves in peptone-induced male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). A completely randomized design was used with five treatment groups: negative control (distilled water), positive control (paracetamol), and ethanol extract doses of 125, 250, and 500 mg/200 g body weight. Fever was induced by intramuscular injection of 5% peptone (1 mL/200 g body weight), and rectal temperature was recorded every 30 minutes for 180 minutes. Data were analyzed using Kruskal–Wallis followed by Mann–Whitney tests. The results showed that all extract doses reduced rectal temperature compared with the negative control, with the 500 mg dose producing the greatest antipyretic effect. Statistical analysis indicated significant differences among treatment groups (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the ethanol extract of Malay apple leaves possesses antipyretic activity in peptone-induced male white rats, with the 500 mg dose showing the highest effectiveness.

Abstract

Makroalga merupakan salah satu sumber daya hayati laut yang kaya akan senyawa bioaktif dan berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai sumber antibakteri alami. Salah satu jenis makroalga yang tumbuh di Perairan Pantai Lumintang, Kabupaten Minahasa Tenggara, adalah Hypnea charoides. Makroalga ini diketahui mengandung berbagai metabolit sekunder, seperti alkaloid, flavonoid, tanin, saponin, dan senyawa fenolik yang memiliki potensi dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri patogen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak Hypnea charoides terhadap bakteri Helicobacter pylori. Proses ekstraksi sampel dilakukan dengan metode maserasi menggunakan etanol 95% sebagai pelarut. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi cakram pada empat variasi konsentrasi, yaitu 100, 200, 300, dan 400 ?g/disk, masing-masing dengan tiga kali pengulangan. Diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk diukur menggunakan jangka sorong dan selanjutnya dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh konsentrasi ekstrak mampu menghambat pertumbuhan H. pylori dengan rata-rata diameter zona hambat masing-masing sebesar 10,71 mm; 11,37 mm; 11,37 mm; dan 11,38 mm. Sementara itu, kontrol negatif berupa akuades tidak menunjukkan adanya zona hambat. Temuan penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa ekstrak Hypnea charoides memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Helicobacter pylori. Oleh karena itu, makroalga ini berpotensi untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut sebagai sumber senyawa antibakteri alami yang berasal dari ekosistem laut.
