Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has occurred since 2020 in Indonesia, has had many impacts on society in various aspects, one of the main ones being mental and social conditions that cause stress. One thing that has an influence is the health service environment. In nursing, communication is vital in helping and building interactions between nurses and patients, and it is called therapeutic communication. This literature review aims to help analyze nurses' therapeutic communication regarding the recovery of COVID-19 patients. The method used is a search in reviews literature using three databases, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct, with the publication year 2019-2023, with the initial step of identifying keywords and then screening and filtering to get ten suitable articles from a total of 3,846 articles found. The results of 10 journals that have gone through these stages or methods state that there is no significant process in each stage of communication on patient satisfaction. In addition, there was no significant relationship between nurses' skills and how nursing care was implemented. However, therapeutic communication is proven to reduce anxiety in patients and families. The nurse's good therapeutic communication experience is evidenced by the support system, effective coping, and hope for the patient's recovery. One of the latest models in its implementation is the TAGEET model, which encourages psychological support for patients. Female gender and nurses have a relationship with therapeutic communication. If communication is lacking, it will impact the psychology of patients and nurses and the patient's recovery rate. As a nurse, you should be able to interpret the techniques and stages of good therapeutic communication to increase a patient's recovery level.

Abstract

Impaired physical mobility in stroke sufferers can cause constipation, which will cause effects such as hemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, and even increased intracranial pressure. Abdominal Massage and exercises elimination of feces elimination exercises are non-pharmacological strategies that can overcome this problem of constipation. The study aimed to determine the effect of abdominal massage therapy and exercise in the elimination of feces in overcoming constipation, which is characterized by controlling fecal output, bowel complaints, fecal consistency improved, bowel movement frequency improved, and intestinal peristalsis improved. The method used is a case study, a sample in a case study. This is a stroke patient who is constipated. Data collection uses techniques, interviews, and observations. The Constipation Analysis Scale instrument was used to assess the degree of constipation. Abdominal massage therapy and fecal elimination exercises are given once a day when you wake up for 30 minutes. The research results showed that respondents have no complaints about defecation, the stool consistency is soft, and there is increased intestinal peristalsis after being given intervention. Abdominal massage therapy and fecal elimination exercises can overcome this constipation in stroke sufferers. This intervention can be used as a possible non-pharmacological action that can be applied as a treatment to treat constipation and facilitate bowel movements instead of using laxatives. This intervention is educational and can be done anywhere without requiring medical assistance.

Abstract

Impaired physical mobility is a health problem where a person cannot move freely and regularly. In general, the problem of impaired physical mobility can occur in various age groups, one of which can occur in elderly sufferers. gout arthritis. Generally, sufferers of gout arthritis experience joint stiffness and pain when moved, making it difficult for sufferers to move their extremities.  If physical mobility problems are not treated immediately, it can cause sufferers to have difficulty carrying out daily activities. Generally, sufferers of gout arthritis take medication to lower uric acid levels, but consuming too much medication can cause dependence, memory problems, kidney failure, and so on. Therapy range of motion can be a reference for overcoming physical mobility disorders that can be done anytime, anywhere, and do not cause side effects such as taking drugs.  This case study aims to identify further changes in physical mobility experienced by sufferers of gout arthritis who experience physical mobility problems after therapy range of motion. This research method is a case study design where the patient is approached using the nursing process. In this case study, the author applies the therapy range of motion active in-patient Mrs. S for seven days. The results showed that on the seventh day, the nursing problem of impaired physical mobility was resolved, and this was proven by achieving all the outcome criteria for nursing goals. So, the therapy range of motion effectively overcame physical mobility disorders in patients with gout arthritis.

Abstract

Early experiential exposure is increasingly advocated to enhance psychiatric clinical readiness; however, empirical evidence regarding real-world social rehabilitation settings remains limited, particularly within low- and middle-income countries where clinical placements are often delayed. This study examined nursing students’ learning experiences and perceived clinical readiness following early exposure to individuals with mental disorders in a community rehabilitation setting. A qualitative descriptive design utilizing reflexive thematic analysis was conducted with 35 third-semester Diploma nursing students in East Java, Indonesia. Purposive sampling achieved thematic saturation at 28 interviews. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis, adhering strictly to COREQ reporting standards to ensure methodological transparency. Findings delineated a developmental trajectory from initial stigma and anxiety toward empathy, therapeutic confidence, and clinical preparedness. Four interconnected themes emerged: (1) attitudinal reconstruction regarding mental illness, (2) emerging relational agency in therapeutic communication, (3) cognitive-affective integration of theoretical constructs, and (4) transitional clinical readiness. Supervised face-to-face engagement within a supportive rehabilitation environment, facilitated stigma deconstruction, and cultivated adaptive interpersonal competencies. It contextualized abstract classroom knowledge through authentic patient interaction, thereby bridging the theory-practice divide. Early structured exposure transcends passive observation, functioning as a transformative pedagogical mechanism that synchronizes affective, cognitive, and relational development. Systematically embedding community-based experiential learning prior to acute psychiatric placements is critical to optimizing global clinical readiness, mitigating entrenched stigma, and advancing recovery-oriented nursing curricula worldwide, particularly in resource-constrained educational systems

Abstract

Perceived financial stability and uncertainty may impair physical and mental health during late adolescence. Yet, its association with health-promoting lifestyle among nursing students in resource-limited community settings remains underexplored. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between financial threat and health-promoting lifestyle among late adolescent nursing students. A descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted in September 2025 with 69 nursing students undergoing rural community fieldwork in a rural district participated. Data were collected using two validated instruments: (1) the Financial Threat Scale (FTS), which measures subjective financial anxiety, perceived economic uncertainty, and financial burden (Cronbach’s α = 0.776), and (2) a modified 10-item Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II), which assesses multidimensional health behaviors across six domains (Cronbach’s α = 0.850). Both continuous variables were dichotomized (low/high) based on empirically derived cut-offs (FTS ≤14 vs. ≥15; HPLP-II ≤37 vs. ≥38) to enable Chi-Square analysis, a non-parametric test appropriate for categorical data with modest sample sizes and potential non-normality. Analyses included descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation, and Chi-Square tests with Fisher’s Exact Test. High financial threat was reported by 40.6% (n = 28); 53.6% (n = 37) demonstrated good health-promoting lifestyle. No significant association was found either on a continuous basis, with r = 0.147 and p = 0.228, or on a categorical basis, with χ² = 0.981 and p = 0.322; Fisher's exact test, p = 0.339 meaning that students experiencing high financial threat were just as likely to maintain good health-promoting behaviors as those with low threat. although this study did not directly measure familial support, professional identity or academic scaffolding, the absence of a significant association between financial threat and health-promoting lifestyle despite high levels of perceived threat aligns with emerging literature suggesting that such culturally embedded protective mechanism may buffer the behavioral impact of financial stress in collectivist, low and middle income contexts.

Abstract

Activity intolerance, characterized by fatigue, dyspnea, and reduced exercise capacity, is a common nursing diagnosis among patients with hypertension, particularly in rural farmers whose livelihoods require sustained physical labor. In resource limited settings such as Indonesia’s agricultural communities, non pharmacological nursing interventions play a critical role in managing functional impairment associated with uncontrolled hypertension. This case study describes the successful implementation of Stretching Exercise Therapy as a nurse led, home based intervention for Mr. S, a 67 year old farmer with hypertension from Pasuruan, East Java, who presented with activity intolerance manifested by dizziness, leg cramps, and exertional dyspnea. During a three day intervention period, the patient received supervised static stretching sessions lasting 5 to 10 minutes, administered twice daily and targeting major muscle groups. Vital signs and subjective symptoms were monitored before and after each intervention session. Following the intervention, Mr. S demonstrated marked clinical improvement. Blood pressure decreased from 160 over 103 mmHg to 137 over 84 mmHg, heart rate declined from 115 to 84 beats per minute, and all reported subjective symptoms resolved. The patient reported restored energy, improved mobility, and increased confidence in performing daily activities, including light farming tasks. The intervention was safe, cost free, and easily adopted by both the patient and his family. Although this evidence is derived from a single case, the findings suggest that Stretching Exercise Therapy may represent a feasible and low intensity strategy for nurses to address activity intolerance in rural populations with hypertension. Further studies with larger samples and longer follow up periods are needed to confirm efficacy and sustainability.
