Abstract

The Advanced Independent Workforce (AIW) program plays a pivotal role in facilitating the development of micro and small enterprises in Indonesia. Nonetheless, various challenges, including inconsistent mentorship and limited evaluation mechanisms, impede its overall effectiveness. In response to these issues, a Dual Monitoring and Evaluation (DME) system was implemented to enhance the role of AIW mentors. This system comprises one-on-one meetings aimed at delivering personalized guidance, as well as onsite monitoring and evaluation to assess real-time business progress and operational challenges. This initiative was executed across multiple provinces in Indonesia, engaging mentors, mentees, and relevant stakeholders. The findings indicate that the DME system significantly enhances mentor effectiveness, bolsters business sustainability, and improves problem-solving capabilities. The one-on-one meetings afforded structured feedback and capacity-building opportunities for mentors, while onsite evaluations facilitated direct observation and timely interventions for mentees. The integration of direct engagement and field-based evaluation not only strengthened mentorship strategies but also increased mentee confidence and promoted adaptive business practices. This study underscores the importance of a structured mentoring model in workforce development and recommends the expansion of DME coverage, the incorporation of digital tools, and the development of standardized evaluation metrics. This approach presents a scalable model for analogous economic empowerment programs, thereby ensuring sustainable mentorship and the success of enterprises.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe main cause of the threat of food crisis in Indonesia is the decline in soil fertility and reduction in land area due to the conversion of paddy fields to non-rice fields. The decreasing area of rice fields has a very real impact on the declining production of rice as the staple food in Indonesia. This research aims to identify the characteristics of land in several areas (sub-districts) in Cirebon Regency to be used as sustainable food agricultural lands (LP2B), in accordance with the mandate of Law No. 41 in2009 about PLP2B. The method used in this research was survey and spatial analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. This research explored the physical and biochemical conditions of the soil, land use patterns and potential productivity on each land that was the object of observation. Socioeconomic data were collected through field observations and interviews with stakeholders directly involved in land management. The research results show that there were significant variations in land use impacting the sustainability of food production. Some areas showed a change in land use from agricultural to non-agricultural land, while most of the other areas were still agricultural land, either rice fields or non-rice fields. Based on the specified criteria, the results of the analysis of the area of LP2B in the study location were calculated covering 10 sub-districts, approximately 20448 ha with the following details: Gunungjati sub-district 750 ha, Kapetakan sub-district 2700 ha, Suranenggala sub-district 1,500 ha, Jamblang sub-district 1029 ha, Arjawinangun District 1313 ha, Pangurangan District 1640 ha, Ciwaringin District 1000 ha, Susukan District 3300 ha, Gegesik District 5123 ha and Kaliwedi District 2133 ha. Based on the results of the land suitability analysis and LP2B criteria, it can be concluded that all sub-district areas that became the study locations meet the criteria in terms of the physical characteristics of the land, the adequacy of available land, as well as the social aspects.

Abstract

Tropical peatland forests in Central Kalimantan, critical global carbon stores, are severely degraded and now act as major greenhouse gas sources due to drainage and fires. This study aimed to evaluate the ecological effectiveness and climate resilience of Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR) for restoring the hydrological functions and biodiversity of these degraded ecosystems. A field experiment was established across 100 hectares, where the ANR method involved canal blocking to rewet the peat and selective planting of native pioneer species, monitored against control plots over five years. The results showed significant and rapid recovery. Canal blocking successfully raised the water table by an average of 40 cm, drastically reducing fire risk. Furthermore, native tree species richness in ANR plots was over 200% higher than controls, with canopy closure reaching 60%. ANR is highly effective, cost-efficient, and climate-resilient, providing a scalable model that prioritizes rewetting and facilitates natural successional pathways to restore critical ecosystem functions and secure long-term carbon storage.

Abstract

Large-scale mining in East Kalimantan leaves severely degraded lands characterized by extreme acidity and chemical toxicity, which critically impede mandatory reforestation efforts often exacerbated by the transient nature of conventional amendments. This study aimed to rigorously quantify the effectiveness of varying biochar dosages on the chemical stabilization of post-mining spoil and the subsequent survival and growth of local pioneer tree species, with the goal of developing an Optimal Biochar Application Protocol. A multi-factorial, randomized complete block design experiment was conducted over 24 months, comparing three biochar dosages (up to 10 \text{ t/ha}) against control and mineral fertilizer plots, supported by a Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA). Results demonstrated that the optimal dosage (10 \text{ t/ha}) neutralized the spoil’s \text{pH} from 4.0 to 6.5, doubled the Cation Exchange Capacity (\text{CEC}), and achieved a 92\% plant survival rate (versus 48\% in control plots). The ecologically superior biochar treatment also proved to be 35\% more cost-effective than repetitive mineral fertilization over the study period. The research concludes that biochar provides the durable, holistic, and cost-effective solution, successfully addressing the root cause of reclamation failure. The findings validate the Optimal Biochar Application Protocol, compelling a necessary shift toward sustainable, carbon-sequestering reclamation practices.

Abstract

The Brantas River Watershed, a vital socio-economic region in East Java, Indonesia, faces escalating environmental pressures from unplanned urbanization and intensive agriculture. These challenges are exacerbated by climate change, leading to increased land degradation, soil erosion, and severe flood events, which threaten the watershed’s long-term sustainability and the livelihoods of millions. This study aimed to develop and validate a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based Decision Support System (DSS) to aid policymakers in formulating integrated, evidence-based strategies for sustainable land use planning and climate change adaptation within this critical watershed. The DSS was constructed by integrating a multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) framework within a GIS environment. Key geospatial datasets (land cover, soil type, slope, rainfall projections) were weighted using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The system models land suitability and vulnerability to environmental hazards under various climate change scenarios. The developed DSS successfully generated high-resolution maps identifying priority zones for conservation, reforestation, and sustainable development. The model revealed that 22% of the upper watershed area is at high risk of landslides under projected rainfall patterns. The optimized land use plan proposed by the DSS demonstrated a potential to reduce surface runoff by up to 35%, significantly mitigating flood risk. The GIS-based DSS is a powerful and effective tool for integrated watershed management. It provides a dynamic, scientifically-grounded platform for strategic planning, enabling policymakers to balance ecological protection with socio-economic needs and enhance the climate resilience of the Brantas River Watershed.

Abstract

Indonesia faces a youth mental health crisis, with limited access to professional care. WHO recommends one mental health worker per 30.000 people, but Indonesia only has 1:200.000 for general mental health personnel and 1:223.587 for psychiatrists. This paper addresses the implementation gap through the design and integration of an AI augmented health information system within Teman Curhat, a mobile mental wellness platform. We applied thematic analysis to expert interviews and used K-Means clustering on 16.689+ user reported cases to classify concerns into three severity levels. The system’s novelty lies in embedding on device Gemini AI for offline triage, ethical chatbot support, and adaptive user routing. Key outputs include a validated clustering model (Silhouette Score: 0.61), AI assisted classification logic, integration within Android Studio, and a scalable conversational interface. This innovation supports SDG 3 (Good Health and Well being) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by enabling inclusive, responsive, and privacy focused digital mental health services for underserved communities.

Abstract

The problem of Umrah pilgrims getting lost and losing personal belongings is still common, especially in high-density areas such as the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, with more than 50 cases of missing pilgrims per day during the peak Umrah season. A survey of 50 pilgrims showed that 86% of respondents experienced location disorientation and 74% had lost or nearly lost personal belongings. This study aims to design emergency and reminder features in the XYZ Umrah Pilgrim Application to improve security and management of pilgrim activities. The development method used is Scrumban, a combination of the iterative and structured Scrum method with the Kanban method that emphasizes workflow visualization and task management execution. The emergency feature is designed using the Fused Location Provider to send pilgrim location coordinates in real-time with a detection time of less than 30 seconds, while the reminder feature helps manage luggage and prayer schedules through a notification system. Functional and performance testing results show a feature success rate above 90%. The conclusion of this study shows that the integration of emergency and reminder features in one Umrah application with the Scrumban approach is able to improve the security and comfort aspects of the congregation.

Abstract

Environmental degradation and resource scarcity necessitate an urgent transition toward integrated landscape management. This research addresses the critical challenges of soil erosion and water depletion by evaluating the effectiveness of integrated Soil and Water Conservation (SWC) techniques. The study aims to identify synergistic practices that optimize ecosystem restoration and ensure long-term resource sustainability. Utilizing a longitudinal experimental design over twenty-four months, researchers compared mechanical interventions, such as bench terracing, with biological strategies, including cover cropping and bio-swales, across forty-five stratified sample plots. Results demonstrate that integrated approaches outperform isolated methods, reducing sediment loss by over 80% and increasing water infiltration rates by 270%. Significant gains in soil organic carbon and macrofauna diversity further indicate a rapid recovery of functional ecosystem services. The findings confirm that the interaction between physical stabilization and biological enrichment creates a self-reinforcing cycle of land regeneration. This research concludes that adopting holistic, nature-based infrastructure is essential for climate resilience and global food security. The developed sustainability framework provides a scalable model for policymakers to transition from extractive land use to regenerative management, ensuring the ecological integrity of vital terrestrial resources.
