Abstract

Palembang is one of the major cities in Indonesia that has undergone rapid growth, particularly in infrastructure and transportation. This development has led to a significant increase in vehicle numbers and heavy traffic flow, which is further worsened by side-friction activities that cause vehicle congestion, delays, and increase the risk of accidents. As a result, these traffic conditions reduce the comfort and safety of road users. The Kapten A. Rivai intersection, the focus of this study, serves as a key junction in Palembang, connecting office districts, shopping centers, and schools. The problem addressed in this research is how to analyze the performance and Level of Service (LOS) of the signalized intersection at Kapten A. Rivai using the PKJI 2023 method, with the goal of assessing the intersection’s overall performance and service quality. The findings show that during the evening peak hour on Tuesday (5:00 PM – 6:00 PM), the highest traffic volume at the Kapten A. Rivai intersection was recorded on the Jaksa Agung Soeprapto approach, with a capacity of 699 vehicles/hour and a saturation degree of 0.9. The average delay at the intersection was 49.57 seconds/vehicle, placing its Level of Service (LOS) in category E.

Abstract

Concrete is a major construction material that is often used in modern construction due to its flexibility and durability. This study aims to examine the potential of green mussel shells as a partial substitute for fine aggregate in concrete mixtures. Green mussel shells, which are mostly composed of calcium carbonate, offer an environmentally friendly solution by utilizing waste to support the sustainability of the construction industry. This study used an experimental method with variations in green mussel shell substitution of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The concrete making process involves mixing cement, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, water, and crushed mussel shells. The concrete compressive strength test was carried out after curing for 28 days. The results showed that the higher the percentage of mussel shell substitution, the lower the compressive strength of the resulting concrete. At low substitution (5%-10%), concrete still meets the criteria for non-structural applications, with an average compressive strength ranging from 8.37 MPa to 9.05 MPa. At high substitution (15%-20%), the compressive strength of concrete decreased significantly to an average of 6.48 MPa. Substitution of green mussel shells has the potential as an alternative material in concrete, taking into account the maximum limits of its use to maintain the mechanical performance of concrete.

Abstract

Sukabangun II Street in Palembang City is an area with a fairly high population density where the quantity of activities is quite high using vehicles on the road. The position of this road in Palembang City which is a traffic activity for the community's economy will affect street activities, especially at the intersection of this road. Traffic jams often occur due to narrowing of the road and slowing of vehicle flow along the intersection on Jalan R.A Abusamah and the direction of Jalan Beringin. This results in obstacles to traffic for people passing through Jalan Sukabangun II. In this study, an evaluation of the performance of the Sukabangun II road section in Palembang City was carried out. The method used is the PKJI 2023 method and is interpreted in 3-dimensional visualization using the PTV VISSIM Ver. 2021 microsimulation application. The results of the study showed a capacity value of 1,904 pcu units per hour, and a traffic flow value (Q) of 1160.8 pcu units per hour, so that the degree of saturation (DJ) was obtained as 0.61. This conclusion shows that the Sukabangun 2 road section in Palembang City is included in the category of roads with service level F.

Abstract

Concrete quality is highly influenced by the curing process, including the type of water used, as it affects cement hydration. This study compares the effects of using seawater and freshwater on the compressive strength of concrete, with eight cylindrical specimens (four cured with seawater and four with freshwater) tested at 28 days in accordance with SNI standards. The results show that concrete cured in seawater achieved an average compressive strength of 18.88 MPa, which is higher than that of concrete cured in freshwater (14.94 MPa). This increase is presumed to be due to the presence of Ca2+, Mg2+, and SO42- ions in seawater, which accelerate cement hydration, although the Cl- content remains a concern due to its potential to cause reinforcement corrosion. This study contributes to the utilization of seawater as an alternative curing medium in coastal regions where freshwater is scarce, while emphasizing the need for further research to assess the long-term effects on structural durability.

Abstract

Urban development and rapid population growth have led to an increase in traffic volume on major roads, including the intersection of Airan Raya Street and Jatimulyo. This intersection serves as an alternative route to Metro City and is one of the key links between Bandar Lampung City and South Lampung Regency. Due to the high frequency of vehicles passing through this location, traffic congestion often occurs. The dense traffic flow affects road performance and increases the risk of both accidents and congestion. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the intersection using the PKJI 2014 Method, which takes into account factors such as capacity, degree of saturation, delay, and level of service. To determine the peak traffic volume, a traffic survey was conducted over three days — Saturday, May 10; Thursday, May 15; and Monday, May 19, 2025. Data evaluation was performed using PKJI 2014 analysis techniques. The results show that on Saturday, May 10, between 07:00–08:00, the highest traffic flow occurred, amounting to 5,938 vehicles per hour (equivalent to 2,402.2 seconds per hour after conversion). The degree of saturation (DS) was 0.8836, indicating that the intersection’s capacity needs to be reassessed to prevent more severe congestion. The level of service was categorized as C (moderate) with an average delay of 15.2298 seconds/skr and a queue probability (QP) ranging from 31.3410% to 61.8522%. This study provides a foundation for policy formulation and traffic engineering strategies at unsignalized intersections with high traffic density, supporting efforts to improve road performance and reduce congestion.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how side obstacles affect traffic flow on Jalan Ikan Sebelah in Bandar Lampung City. Roadside parking, stopped cars, cars entering and exiting, pedestrians, and slow-moving vehicles such as bicycles and pedicabs are all considered side obstacles. To assess the contribution of each side obstacle, this study uses multiple linear regression and traffic performance analysis based on the 2014 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI). With light vehicles traveling at only 19.18 km/h during rush hour, the results show that the degree of saturation reached a value of 0.80, indicating a category D road service level. Vehicle parking, stopping, and entering and exiting had the greatest side obstacles, with an obstacle value of 548.8 smp/hour. These findings confirm that managing side constraints is crucial for improving the capacity and performance of road sections in areas with high social and economic activity.

Abstract

Damage to road infrastructure is one of the main problems in Indonesia's land transportation system, which has an impact on reduced mobility efficiency and increased economic burdens. This study aims to evaluate the level of pavement damage on Pangeran Tirtayasa Road, Bandar Lampung City, by applying the Surface Distress Index (SDI) approach. This method assesses road surface conditions based on visual parameters such as crack size, number of potholes, and wheel rut depth. Data collection was conducted through a field survey on a 200-meter road section divided into two segments, namely from STA 4+265 to STA 4+465. The analysis results show that Segment I obtained an SDI score of 105, which is classified as slightly damaged, while Segment II recorded a score of 35, which is classified as good. Based on these results, Segment I is recommended for rehabilitation, while Segment II only requires routine maintenance. These findings confirm that the SDI method is effective in supporting more accurate technical decision-making in developing structured and sustainable road maintenance strategies.
