Abstract

The primary focus of humanistic psychology is the development of human potential toward self-maturity. This study aims to develop and test the psychometric properties of a self-actualization measurement tool constructed based on the fifteen characteristics of self-actualization from Abraham Maslow's theory. Data were collected online from 200 early adult participants (aged 17-30 years) using a convenience sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using JASP software through internal consistency reliability testing and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to test construct validity. The analysis results showed that this 32-item instrument has adequate discriminatory power. The reliability test produced a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.93, indicating a very high level of internal consistency. Construct validity testing through CFA showed the model has a very good fit with the empirical data, indicated by a chi-square value of 458.522 (p = 0.060), a CFI of 0.986, an RMSEA of 0.023, and a SRMR of 0.043. Unlike previous instruments that measured related designs, this study directly operationalized Maslow's fifteen characteristics of self-actualization and empirically tested their structural integration using contemporary psychometric standards. These findings support a unidimensional structure, strengthening the empirical foundation of classical humanistic theory within a modern quantitative framework. Based on these results, this measuring instrument was found to be empirically valid and reliable for measuring the psychological dimensions of self-actualization. This instrument is suitable for use as an assessment tool in self-development programs and counseling services to help individuals identify their potential and guide their personal growth.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate the validity and reliability of the Self-Harm Intention Scale based on Ajzen’s Theory of Planned Behavior, comprising two components: attitude toward the behavior and subjective norm. A quantitative approach was employed involving 206 school and university students in Bandung, with data collected through an online survey. Item analysis using item–rest correlation identified five items with discrimination indices below 0.30, while the remaining items demonstrated acceptable discriminatory power. Content validity, assessed using Aiken’s V, yielded a value of 1.00 for 27 items, indicating excellent agreement among experts. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicated an adequate model fit, and the scale demonstrated very high internal consistency, with reliability coefficients ranging from 0.962 to 0.978. Overall, the findings suggest that the scale has strong potential as an early screening tool for self-harm intention. These results underscore the importance of educational settings in identifying early signs of self-harm intention and suggest that schools and higher education institutions can play a more active role in early detection and prevention when supported by a valid and reliable measurement instrument. Future studies are recommended to examine the external validity of the scale and to involve more diverse samples.

Abstract

This study objective is to develop parenting style measurement for university students based on Baumrind’s Parenting Style theory. This was a multidimensional measurement from two parenting style dimensions, demandingness and responsiveness. 59 initial items were developed and 46 final items were selected for the study. Data were collected using convenience sampling from 169 active university students across 84 universities in 16 provinces in Indonesia. Psychometric properties analysis that were used include item-rest correlation, alpha cronbach for reliability analysis, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The results of the item-rest correlation analysis showed that the demandingness dimension had correlation values ranging from 0,305 to 0,540 with an average of 0,431. The responsiveness dimension showed item-rest correlation values ranging from 0,412 to 0,792 with an average of 0,686. Reliability analysis used alpha cronbach for demandingness (ɑ=0,838) and responsiveness (ɑ=0,95) proved good reliability. Confirmatory Factor Analysis also showed that the two dimensions have a really good validity score and showed a good fit (CFI and TLI above 0,90; RMSEA and SRMR below 0.80). In conclusion, this measurement has adequate psychometric quality and is suitable for use in assessing the university student’s parenting style
