Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders are prevalent among healthcare professionals, notably registered nurses. Typically, hospital nurses work long hours in awkward positions, bending and twisting. This study aimed to identify hospital nurses' musculoskeletal disorder complaints. This study was a cross-sectional study and conducted at a private hospital in West Java. This study recuited nurse respondents consisted of 73% were female nurses, with an average age of 27.66 ±3.56 years. The nurse respondents reported mild to severe pain based on Nordic Musculoskeletal Disorder Survey. This study found that there were 41% of the nurses reported mild pain in the lower neck, 51% reported moderate pain in the waist, and 12% reported severe pain in the waist. Overall, nurses in the inpatient unit dominates the middle part of the body complaints. Musculoskeletal disorder complaints from nurses needed additional assessment and intervention to improve nurses’ quality of life.

Abstract

Profesionalisme keperawatan adalah suatu landasan ilmiah dan praktik keperawatan dalam memberikan kualitas pelayanan keperawatan kepada klien, individu, dan masyarakat luas. Profesionalisme keperawatan sudah banyak dibahas dalam penelitian keperawatan. Namun, masih sedikit pembahasan tentang konsep profesionalisme keperawatan di Indonesia, khususnya perspektif mahasiswa. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengidentifikasi konsep profesionalisme keperawatan dari sudut pandang mahasiswa keperawatan di Indonesia berdasarkan literatur terkini. Penelitian ini menggunakan kajian literatur sistematik dengan simplified approach berasal dari publikasi artikel tahun 2012-2022. Pengumpulan data menggunakan tiga database, yaitu Pubmed, EBSCO Host, dan Cochrane Library. Kata kunci yang digunakan adalah “Nursing Student, Nurse Student, Student, Professionalism, Professional Competence, Professional Value of Nursing, Professionalism Education, Medical Professionalism, Competence, Clinical Competence, Competence Factor”. Seleksi dilakukan menggunakan Flow Diagram PRISMA dan JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist. Selain itu, analisis tematik juga digunakan untuk memaparkan laporan penelitian dalam bentuk tema. Analisis dari tujuh artikel kuantitatif menghasilkan empat tema utama, yaitu perkembangan diri seorang perawat, profesionalisme, faktor internal, dan faktor eksternal, yang memengaruhi profesionalisme keperawatan. Profesionalisme merupakan proses pengembangan diri seorang perawat untuk menjadi perawat profesional semenjak di lingkup pendidikan. Mahasiswa keperawatan penting untuk mengembangkan diri sebagai seorang profesional untuk masuk dalam praktik klinik atau dunia kerja yang akan meningkatkan kualitas asuhan keperawatan kepada pasien.

Abstract

Background: Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a key strategy to support lifelong learning and improve nursing practice. Despite its recognized importance, CPD implementation in hospital settings remains inconsistent and often faces various challenges. Understanding the factors that influence nurses’ participation in CPD is essential to enhance its effectiveness and sustainability. Purpose: To identify factors related to the continuing professional development of nurses in hospitals. Method: A scoping review using the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, MEDLINE, and Science Direct for articles published between 2020 and 2025. A total of 16 studies were included, comprising quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method designs. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify key themes. Results: Three main themes emerged: motivation and barriers to participation, CPD implementation and outcomes, and impact of working conditions. Internal motivation, financial incentives, and professional growth were key drivers, while fatigue, cost, and scheduling issues were major barriers. Nurses’ perceptions of CPD were shaped by training relevance, accessibility, and effectiveness. Workload, leadership support, and organizational culture significantly influenced engagement. Conclusion: CPD implementation among nurses is shaped by motivational factors, nurse’s perceptions conduct by CPD implementation and outcome, and workplace conditions. To enhance participation and effectiveness, healthcare institutions must adopt holistic strategies that address individual needs, ensure program relevance, and foster supportive environments.

Abstract

Abstrak: Sejak pandemi COVID-19, prevalensi stunting terus meningkat dan menjadi fokus program kesehatan secara nasional saat ini. Hal tersebut dapat dikaitkan dengan aspek ekonomi, status kesehatan ibu (maternal), riwayat kehamilan, keterbatasan mengakses pelayanan kesehatan dan rendahnya pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat terkait gizi. Desa kadu dipilih sebagai lembaga mitra, selain karena lokasi dekat dengan kampus, juga permasalahan kesehatan terkait gizi pada anak dan stunting cukup tinggi, yaitu sebesar 5-10 kasus pertahun 2022. Edukasi bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat dalam mengenal kebutuhan gizi pada anak serta pencegahan stunting. Kegiatan melibatkan masyarakat umum baik pria dan wanita, dimana pemeriksaan kesehatan diikuti 55 peserta, dan edukasi kesehatan diikuti sebanyak 73 peserta. Hasil pemeriksaan kesehatan menunjukkan mayoritas peserta memiliki riwayat Hipertensi (58,18%), IMT Obesitas, Gula darah Normal (<200 mg/dL), dan Asam urat tinggi (>6 mg/dL). Pengetahuan peserta dapat dilihat dari rerata nilai pre-test yaitu 53,47, sedangkan rerata nilai post-test sebesar 61. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa edukasi berdampak meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta yaitu sebesar 7,53. Edukasi kesehatan dan upaya perbaikan gizi dapat terus dilakukan dengan melibatkan multisektor untuk percepatan pengendalian Stunting.Abstract: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence of stunting has continued to increase and is the focus of current national health programs. This can be attributed to economic aspects, maternal health status, pregnancy history, limited access to health services, and low knowledge and awareness of nutrition. Kadu Village was chosen as a partner institution, not only because it is close to the campus, but also because health problems related to child nutrition and stunting are quite high, 5-10 cases per year in 2022. Education and medical check-up were conducted in Kadu village (RW 06) on May 31, 2023. This activity was a collaboration between the Faculty of Nursing and the Township Management Division (TMD) of Lippo Karawaci. Health assessments include height, weight, blood sugar, blood pressure, and uric acid. Education is expected to increase public awareness in recognizing children's nutritional needs and preventing stunting. 55 participants attended health check-up activities while 73 participants attended health education. The characteristics of the participants were the majority; female (87.27%), elementary school education (43.64%), and not working (80%). In addition, it is known that the average age is 54.42 years, the average age of marriage is 21.16 years, and the average age of giving birth to the first child is 22.32 years. The results of the health examination showed that most participants had a history of hypertension (58.18%), BMI obesity, normal blood sugar (<200 mg/dL), and high uric acid (>6 mg/dL). Participants' knowledge can be seen from the average pre-test score of 53.47, while the average post-test score is 61. This shows that education impacts increasing participants' knowledge by 7.53. Health education and nutrition improvement efforts can continue to be carried out by involving multi-sectors to accelerate stunting control.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kesulitan ekonomi, pengetahuan yang terbatas, dan jumlah anggota keluarga yang banyak turut berpengaruh dalam pemenuhan gizi pada keluarga. Kampung Dadap dipilih sebagai lembaga mitra dikarenakan jumlah kasus gizi kurang pada anak cukup tinggi, yaitu sebanyak 30 kasus pada tahun 2023-2024. Kegiatan pelatihan dibagi dalam dua sesi yaitu; Makanan sehat keluarga dan Wirausaha Kuliner, yang diselenggarakan oleh Fakultas Keperawatan dengan Fakultas Pariwisata Universitas Pelita Harapan. Edukasi bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan minat masyarakat dalam memenuhi kebutuhan gizi keluarga dan mengembangkan usaha kuliner sebagai bentuk Usaha Mikro Kecil dan Menengah (UMKM). Kegiatan Edukasi dilaksanakan di kampung Dadap pada 28 November 2023 dengan diikuti 47 peserta. Karakteristik peserta yaitu; Perempuan/Ibu rumah tangga (100 %), usia 23-72 tahun, memiliki jumlah anak dalam keluarga 0-5 anak. Pengetahuan peserta dapat dilihat dari rerata nilai pre-test yaitu 41,95, sedangkan rerata nilai post-test sebesar 75.75. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa edukasi berdampak dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan peserta yaitu sebesar 33,79. Kerjasama lintas sektor dalam pemberdayaan keluarga perlu dilakukan secara berkelanjutan.Abstract: Nutrition-related issues continue to be a challenge today. Economic difficulties, many family members, and limited knowledge contribute to the fulfillment of nutrition in the family. Efforts are needed to increase family empowerment. Kampung Dadap was chosen as a partner institution because the number of cases of malnutrition in children is relatively high, which amounted to 30 cases in 2023-2024. Education is divided into two sessions: Healthy Family Food and Culinary Entrepreneurship and a cooking demonstration. This activity is a collaboration between the Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Tourism, Universitas Pelita Harapan. Education aims to increase community knowledge and interest in meeting family nutritional needs and developing culinary businesses as a form of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Educational activities were held in Dadap village on November 28, 2023, with 47 participants. The characteristics of the participants are women/housewives (100%), aged 23-72 years, and the number of children in the family is 0-5. The participants' knowledge can be seen from the average pre-test score of 41.95, while the average post-test score is 75.75. This shows that education has an impact on increasing the participants' knowledge by 33.79. Cross-sectoral cooperation in family empowerment needs to be carried out continuously.

Abstract

Background: Nursing leadership training is essential for preparing nurses to lead teams, make strategic decisions, and adapt to rapidly evolving healthcare environments. Despite its critical role, the effectiveness of leadership programs is often undermined by various challenges, including limited institutional support, high workload demands, resource constraints, and cultural or psychological barriers. These issues can impact program outcomes and the long-term development of nursing leadership capacity. Purpose: To explore the design and implementation challenges of nursing leadership training programs. Method: This scoping review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guideline. Searching was conducted using three databases including Medline (Ebsco), ScienceDirect (Elsevier), and PubMed. Inclusion and exclusion criteria guided study selection. Data from 14 peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2024 were extracted and synthesized using content analysis and descriptive statistics. Results: Four major themes were identified organizational barriers, individual barriers, non-interventional programs, and interventional programs each with sub-themes. Effective leadership interventions have emerged across several forms: mentorship, simulation, empowerment programs, and structured curricula. Conclusion: Nursing leadership training must shift from conceptual frameworks to evidence-based, context-specific interventions. Strengthening organizational infrastructure, promoting inclusivity, and enhancing program clarity and evaluation are critical for building effective, scalable, and sustainable leadership pathways in nursing.

Abstract

Background: Conscious patients receiving mechanical ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) often experience communication barriers due to the inability to speak despite preserved cognitive function. This condition contributes to anxiety, frustration, and potentially compromises patient safety and the quality of nursing care. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), specifically low-tech communication boards, has been recommended as a solution to support communication in conscious patients on ventilators. However, the implementation of AAC in the ICU remains suboptimal due to limited nurse competency and the lack of a standardized and structured educational model. Purpose: To identify the types of AAC communication boards used in conscious patients on ventilators in the ICU and the learning methods reported to be most effective in improving nurse competency in their use. Method: This scoping review was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology and reported following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A literature search was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL, and ScienceDirect for publications from 2015–2025. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies were included. Article selection was conducted independently by two reviewers, and methodological quality was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal checklist. Results: Six articles met the inclusion criteria, demonstrating that structured education on the use of AAC communication boards contributed to improved nurses' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and acceptance in facilitating communication with conscious patients on ventilators. Key contributing factors included clinical practice-based training, organizational support, and nurse involvement in intervention development. Identified barriers included time constraints, high nurse workload, and diverse patient clinical conditions. Conclusion: A low-tech AAC communication board is a feasible and practical intervention to support communication in conscious patients on mechanical ventilators in the ICU. Sustainable implementation is strongly influenced by structured nurse education, experiential learning, and institutional support.   Keywords: Communication Board; Conscious Patients on Ventilators; Intensive Care Unit; Nurse Competence; Structured Education.   Pendahuluan: Pasien sadar yang menggunakan ventilasi mekanik di Intensive Care Unit (ICU) sering mengalami hambatan komunikasi akibat ketidakmampuan berbicara meskipun fungsi kognitif tetap terjaga. Kondisi ini berkontribusi terhadap kecemasan, frustrasi, dan berpotensi menurunkan keselamatan pasien serta mutu asuhan keperawatan. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), khususnya papan komunikasi berteknologi rendah, telah direkomendasikan sebagai solusi untuk mendukung komunikasi pasien ventilator sadar. Namun, implementasi AAC di ICU masih belum optimal akibat keterbatasan kompetensi perawat dan belum tersedianya model edukasi terstruktur yang terstandar. Tujuan: Untuk mengidentifikasi jenis papan komunikasi AAC yang digunakan pada pasien ventilator mekanik sadar di ICU serta metode pembelajaran yang dilaporkan lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi perawat dalam penggunaanya. Metode: Penelitian scoping review dengan pendekatan berdasarkan metodologi Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) dan dilaporkan mengikuti pedoman PRISMA-ScR. Penelusuran literatur dilakukan pada PubMed, CINAHL, dan ScienceDirect untuk publikasi tahun 2015–2025. Studi kuantitatif, kualitatif, dan metode campuran disertakan. Proses seleksi artikel dilakukan secara independen oleh dua penelaah dan kualitas metodologis dinilai menggunakan JBI critical appraisal checklist. Hasil: Sebanyak 6 artikel memenuhi kriteria inklusi, menunjukkan bahwa edukasi terstruktur penggunaan papan komunikasi AAC berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan, keterampilan, sikap, dan penerimaan perawat dalam memfasilitasi komunikasi pasien ventilator sadar. Faktor pendukung utama meliputi pelatihan berbasis praktik klinis, dukungan organisasi, dan keterlibatan perawat dalam pengembangan intervensi. Hambatan yang ditemukan mencakup keterbatasan waktu, beban kerja perawat yang  tinggi, dan variasi kondisi klinis pasien. Simpulan: Papan komunikasi AAC berteknologi rendah merupakan intervensi yang layak dan praktis untuk mendukung komunikasi pasien ventilator mekanik sadar di ICU. Implementasi berkelanjutan sangat dipengaruhi oleh pendidikan perawat yang terstruktur, pembelajaran berbasis pengalaman, dan dukungan institusional.   Kata Kunci: Edukasi Terstruktur; Intensive Care Unit; Kompetensi Perawat; Papan Komunikasi; Pasien Ventilator Sadar.
