Abstract

Compared to other language skills, listening is a language skill that is often ignored and forgotten in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes. Thus, there should be more room for teaching listening in EAP classes. Extensive listening (EL) could be one alternative that English teachers can do to give more room for teaching listening. This descriptive study investigated 19 EAP students' perceptions of an EL program. Research data showed that most students have positive perceptions of EL. EL provides a fun but meaningful activity for students. Most of the students agree that EL can improve their listening fluency and vocabulary and expose them to various English accents. In addition, they state that EL helps them become more confident to talk to other people in English and they want to do EL in the future although nobody asks them. Therefore, EL is a promising program to be implemented in EAP classes.

Abstract

Spiritual care is an important component in providing holistic nursing care to both individuals and families. Therefore, nurses need to have knowledge and skills to recognize and address patients’ spiritual needs. Unfortunately, the spiritual aspect in health care is often neglected. Spiritual care in health care has started to be taught in nursing schools, specifically in Universitas Pelita Harapan, in which spiritual care is one of the core subjects that is taught by a faculty member who went through a training in spiritual care. Realizing that spiritual care is not necessarily included in nursing curricula in most nursing institutions in Indonesia, a webinar on spiritual care was conducted, especially in the context of palliative care. The purpose of this Community Service is to inform spiritual care in the context of palliative care to nursing students throughout Indonesia. The webinar was held on August 7, 2020 which was attended by 202 participants from various regions in Indonesia. The method used was lecture and question and answer. Evaluation was done by giving pre- and post-tests to participants. Participants’ feedback was obtained at the end of the webinar. The implementation of this webinar was proven to provide additional knowledge to nursing students who participated, indicated by an increase in the average pre-test and post-test scores by 21 points. BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Asuhan spiritual merupakan komponen penting di dalam pemberian asuhan keperawatan yang holistik baik kepada individu maupun keluarga. Oleh karenanya, perawat perlu memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk mengenali dan memenuhi kebutuhan spiritual pasien. Sayangnya, aspek spiritual dalam pelayanan kesehatan seringkali diabaikan. Pembelajaran tentang spiritualitas di Fakultas Keperawatan juga sudah mulai diperkenalkan, khususnya di Universitas Pelita Harapan, asuhan spiritual menjadi mata kuliah dengan pengajar yang telah mengikuti pelatihan asuhan spiritual. Menyadari bahwa asuhan spiritual belum tentu termasuk di dalam pengajaran di kebanyakan institusi keperawatan yang ada di Indonesia, maka dilaksanakan sosialisasi atau pengenalan melalui webinar mengenai asuhan spiritual, khususnya dalam konteks perawatan paliatif. Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pengetahuan tentang asuhan spiritual dalam konteks perawatan paliatif kepada mahasiswa keperawatan di seluruh Indonesia. Webinar tersebut dilaksanakan pada 7 Agustus 2020 yang dihadiri oleh 202 orang peserta dari berbagai wilayah di Indonesia. Metode yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan ini adalah dalam bentuk ceramah dan diskusi tanya jawab. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan dengan memberikan pre- dan post-tes kepada peserta dan juga evaluasi kegiatan. Pelaksanaan webinar ini terbukti memberikan tambahan pengetahuan kepada mahasiswa keperawatan yang mengikuti ditunjukkan dengan peningkatan hasil rata-rata skor pre-test dan post-test sebesar 21 poin.

Abstract

These days, things are developing rapidly, especially in the field of education. One of developments is in the use of technology in education. Online learning is one of important technology-based learning methods in today's world that requires people to do learning activities from home through online learning. The Covid-19 pandemic requires all fields including Education to implement online learning to prevent transmission. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between online learning satisfaction level on Nursing Theory and Practice course and nursing student academic achievement. This study employed quantitative correlation. The research population is 335 active students Faculty of Nursing Universitas Pelita Harapan batch 2019. Purposive sampling technique and Solvin’s formula were used in this study which involved 185 students. The results show that there is a significant and unidirectional relationship between the level of online learning satisfaction and student learning outcomes (p=0,001). Most students have a level of satisfaction of Nursing Theory and Practice online subjects (68%), with an average learning achievement (final grade) of 81.40. Student satisfaction with online learning methods is related to academic achievement, the higher the level of student learning satisfaction the better students’ academic achievement.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Belakangan ini, banyak hal berkembang dengan pesat, terutama di bidang pendidikan. Salah satu perkembangan tersebut adalah dalam hal penggunaan teknologi dalam pendidikan. Online learning merupakan salah satu metode belajar berbasis teknologi yang penting dalam keadaan dunia sekarang yang mengharuskan kegiatan pembelajaran dilakukan dari rumah melalui pembelajaran online. Pandemi Covid-19 menuntut semua bidang termasuk pendidikan untuk menerapkan pembelajaran online untuk mencegah penularan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat kepuasaan pembelajaran online pada mata kuliah Nursing Theory and Practice dengan prestasi akademik mahasiswa keperawatan. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif korelasional. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa aktif Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Pelita Harapan angkatan 2019 berjumlah 335 mahasiswa. Tehnik purposive sampling dan rumus Slovin diterapkan dalam penelitian ini dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 185 mahasiswa. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan yang signifikan dan searah antara tingkat kepuasan pembelajaran online dengan hasil belajar mahasiswa (p=0,001). Sebagian besar mahasiswa memiliki tingkat kepuasan terhadap pembelajaran Nursing Theory and Practice online (68%), dengan rata-rata prestasi belajar (nilai akhir) 81,40. Kepuasan mahasiswa akan metode pembelajaran online berhubungan dengan prestasi akademik, semakin tinggi tingkat kepuasan mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran menunjukkan semakin baik prestasi akademik yang dicapai mahasiswa.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian terlaksana sebagai bagian dari rangkaian kerja sama yang telah dijalin bersama pihak sekolah. Universitas Pelita Harapan sebagai pelaksana kegiatan mengadakan pelatihan secara daring melalui media Zoom kepada 39 siswa SMA Tunas Bangsa Bintan. Kegiatan bertujuan untuk membedah strategi mendengarkan dan menjawab soal listening pada TOEFL dengan tepat dan efektif. Kegiatan terdiri dari 2 sesi penyampaian materi dan materi yang disampaikan disusun berdasarkan hasil pre-test terpisah yang dilaksanakan sebelum kegiatan penyampaian materi. Pelaksanaan penyampaian materi didesain dalam bentuk kelas/tutorial yang berlangsung selama 90 menit selama 2 kali pertemuan. Hasil dari post-test dan evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pada hasil tes listening comprehension para siswa. Siswa merasa puas akan penyampaian materi dan metode yang digunakan. Kegiatan yang sama di masa depan dengan materi yang berbeda diharapkan akan lebih banyak dilaksanakan di masa depan.

Abstract

Students’ voices matter because they tell us different perspectives of what happens in the classroom. This study focused on the students’ voices of the English Teachers’ technical and digital preparedness in technology-enhanced language learning. The study was designed in a descriptive quantitative method using a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire. This study recruited 105 nursing students to voice their teachers’ preparedness in the technology technology-enhanced learning during the pandemic. The result indicated the respondents’ voice expressed that their English teachers positively transformed along with the time. Teachers were found to be positively prepared in digital literacy, digital classroom, and digital assessment after a short period. Implications suggest that teachers and students adopt remote learning as it will soon be the new normal in Language Teaching.

Abstract

Indonesia has stipulated the implementation of the international program as one of its internationalisation's agendas. As a result, private and public universities strive to create international programs that would attract international students. This study focuses on an international program in a private university in Tangerang, which promotes English as a medium of instruction with little interference from native speakers. As many previous research have centred around study abroad in English speaking countries, this study offers a novelty of how identities are constructed in the context of English as a Lingua Franca where both local Indonesian and the international students are non-native speakers of English. Therefore, this research aims to discover how international students construct their language learning identity in English as a Lingua Franca context in Indonesia. There were eight participants from five different countries. They were interviewed using conversational narrative interview, and the data was analysed using narratives analysis. The findings were established in themes, and they indicated the positive identities constructions in many ways. These included reconstructing economic identity to religious identity, establishing Lingua Franca speakers identities, constructing global citizenship identities where all these constructions were supported by the acceptance and the zero pressure from the host. Therefore, it is concluded that zero power inequality promotes favourable language learning and identity construction during study abroad.

Abstract

Many language learners, even language teachers, consider two words are synonymous. In fact, some words are not really synonymous. This sometimes triggers questions among language learners. They are confused whether two considered-synonymous words can be used interchangebly in certain contexts. Their confusion will appear more when they should describe something. Therefore, this study tries to find out phenomena around two words which are considered synonymous, namely rich and wealthy. Using British National Corpus (BNC) as the data which were analysed using the software Sketch Engine (SkE), this corpus linguistics based study found out that rich and wealthy are near-synonyms because they have identical sense but they are not substitutable for certain contexts. In addition, rich is more commonly used by people to describe both human and non-human beings. The results of the study imply that corpus linguistics provide benefits for English language teaching as we can really analyse language using authentic facts compiled in a corpus. A language teacher can also use corpus linguistics to teach vocabulary. In addition, a sociolinguistics phenomenon found out in this study implies that investigating two considered-synonymous adjectives can help language learners understand how people use the adjectives in socialising with other people. Abstract

Maluku Province has tourism attraction which can attract international visitors to visit Maluku. However, those tourists in Maluku might get sick and be treated in hospital. In this case, nurses play an important role for the patient's recovery. They must treat all patients according to their responsibilities, regardless of differences in ethnicity, religion or origin of the patient. One of the trainings they need is English language training to prepare them to handle foreign patients who do not speak Indonesian and only understand English. For this reason, this Community Service (PkM) activity is proposed to accommodate the needs of learning English for prospective nurses in Maluku. Learning activities were carried out in a period of 10 sessions and approximately there were 3-5 participants per meeting joined the training. The learning approach used was the flipped-learning approach which has positive impacts on the participants. The participants felt more confident to speak English and English skills in nursing context increased after completing the program. However, there were some challenges faced by the participants, namely related to their English language skills and inadequate quality of the internet network in the area where the participants joined the program. Recommendations for future English trainers are explained in this paper. Similar future programs could implement teaching and learning method and approach by considering participants’ internet connection quality. In addition, training on General English should be carried out first before training on English for Specific Pusposes is implemented.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Asuhan perawatan paliatif merupakan asuhan keperawatan yang diberikan pada pasien yang membutuhkan asuhan paliatif dengan tujuan meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasien dan keluarganya. Semakin meningkatnya kejadian penyakit kronis dan mengancam jiwa, membuat kebutuhan akan asuhan paliatif meningkat. Saat ini masih banyak institusi keperawatan yang belum memiliki mata kuliah perawatan paliatif baik dalam akademik maupun jenjang profesi. Oleh karena itu, webinar pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk menjawab permasalahan yang ada. Tujuan dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini untuk memberikan pengetahuan kepada mahasiswa keperawatan tentang perawatan paliatif sekaligus mempersiapkan mereka dalam menghadapi pasien yang membutuhkan asuhan paliatif dimasa mendatang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diberikan dengan metode ceramah menggunakan power point melalui ruang zoom secara daring kepada mahasiswa keperawatan diIndonesia. Sebanyak 202 mahasiswa keperawatan dari berbagai provinsi mengikuti webinar ini. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan yang signifikan dengan peningkatan rata-rata skor pre-test ke post-test sebesar 44.48. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini terbukti bermanfaat dalam peningkatan pengetahuan mahasiswa keperawatan di Indonesia. Kata Kunci: Webinar, perawatan paliatif, mahasiswa keperawatan  ABSTRACT Palliative care is nursing care provided to patients who need palliative care aimed to improve the quality of life of the patients and their families. The increasing incidence of chronic and life-threatening diseases lead to the increasing need of palliative care. However, there are still many nursing institutions that do not have palliative care courses yet in both academic and professional levels. Therefore, this community service webinar was conducted to answer these existing problems. The purpose of this community service was to provide information for nursing students about palliative care and to equip them for dealing with patients who need palliative care in the future. This community service activity was an online event using Zoom Meeting for nursing students in Indonesia. A total of 202 nursing students from various provinces participated in this webinar. This event was evaluated by pre-post quiz of palliative care knowledge. The results of the evaluation revealed that the students’ knowledge have increased (Mean 44.48). It is noted that this community service activity has proved to be essential event to provide more information regarding palliative care for nursing students. Keyword: Webinar, palliative care, nursing students

Abstract

Walaupun menopause adalah hal normal pada perempuan diatas umur 50 tahun, namun dijumpai data kecemasan menghadapi menopause pada perempuan di Tangerang Selatan. Dampaknya perempuan enggan memeriksakan kesehatan sistem reproduksi karena mempunyai persepsi tidak perlu periksa kesehatan jika tidak sakit. Fenomena tersebut juga dijumpai di salah satu gereja di Tangerang dimana setiap minggu diketahui ada perempuan sakit dan dirawat di rumah sakit. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan screening kesehatan reproduksi pada perempuan menopause. Metode screening sistem reproduksi perempuan menopause (n=30) untuk mendeteksi peredaran darah jantung - otak, syaraf otak, kepadatan tulang, kadar gula dalam darah, organ reproduksi melalui alat Quantum Resonance Magnetic Analyzer dengan tiga kategori hasil risiko, hati-hati, dan aman. Hasil: diketahui usia ≥ 60 tahun (50%) dengan kategori ‘hati-hati’ diketahui masalah paling dominan yaitu gangguan peredaran darah di jantung - otak (96,67%), sedangkan pada kategori ‘risiko’ gangguan paling dominan yaitu ‘tingginya gula dalam darah (76.67%). Lalu hasil dilaporkan kepada dokter klinik gereja untuk memberikan rujukan ke rumah sakit. Kesimpulan: responden tersebut mempunyai kecenderungan mengalami masalah penurunan fungsi kognisi seperti cepat lupa disertai penyakit degeneratif pada lanjut usia: Diabetes Melitus, Dementia, dan Osteoporosis. Rekomendasi diperlukan literature review tentang dampak menopause terhadap kejadian penyakit degeneratif.
