Abstract

Rumah Kost Gang Famili No. 03 is one of the residences that has been established since 1991 and has served tenants for a long time. In its management, the process of recording tenant data, payment, and communication between boarding house owners and tenants is still carried out manually, so there are often delays in information and lack of efficiency. This research aims to design and develop a web-based information system for Rumah Kost Gang Famili No.03 with the Waterfall method, which is integrated with a messaging system (WhatsApp or SMS notifications) to facilitate the administration, monitoring, and communication process. This system has two types of users, namely visitors (tenants) who can view information and contact admins, and admins who can manage the webside itself. With the implementation of this system, it is hoped that boarding house management will be more effective, efficient, and responsive to the needs of tenants.

Abstract

The instability of internet access in Kawaluso, Sangihe Islands, an Indonesian-Philippine border island, is thought to hinder fulfilling the community's information needs. This research analyzes the root of the problem through three approaches: (1) Fresnel Zone for physical bottleneck evaluation, (2) bandwidth allocation, and (3) Committed Information Rate (CIR). Results showed no significant physical interference (Fresnel Zone: 79.01 m) and adequate individual bandwidth allocation (33.33 Mbps downlink/day). However, when 135 users accessed simultaneously, the CIR dropped dramatically to 0.74 Mbps/user, far below the Indonesian broadband standard (2 Mbps). Key findings revealed user overcapacity (demand-capacity ratio: 135%) as the leading cause of instability, not geographical or infrastructure factors. The study recommends: (a) an increase in BTS capacity to 270 Mbps, (b) implementation of Quality of Service (QoS) for critical service priorities, and (c) load balancing between operators. Policy implications emphasize adjusting BTS capacity to projected users in remote areas.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for developing a digital-based information literacy model, specifically the TIL (The Information Literacy) Model of The Big Six type, designed for fifth-grade elementary school students categorized as intermediate readers. In the current era of digital disruption, where the flow of information is massive, rapid, and not always based on verified facts, information literacy becomes a fundamental skill. Students are often exposed to unfiltered information, which can lead to confusion, misinterpretation, and difficulty in distinguishing factual content from opinion or misinformation. This research employed a qualitative approach using ethnographic methods. Data collection techniques included semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving teachers and students. The findings reveal that students struggle to understand informational texts critically, lack familiarity with effective strategies to access relevant information, and are constrained by limited infrastructure and digital tools. Therefore, the development of a digital-based Big Six TIL Model is considered essential as a structured and contextualized learning approach. This model helps students build critical thinking, information selection, and analytical skills, thereby improving their overall literacy competence. Moreover, integrating digital literacy through this model enhances students’ motivation, supports 21st-century skill development, and prepares them to navigate the digital information landscape more responsibly and independently.

Abstract

The need for information to support the learning process is increasingly becoming a challenge for students with visual disabilities. They actively seek and use various sources of information, which causes information overload and affects the way they manage information in the future. This research uses Personal Information Management (PIM) theory which includes three main activities: finding/refinding, keeping, and the meta-level using a quantitative descriptive approach involving 32 respondents. The aim of this research is to understand how students with visual disabilities at private junior and senior high schools in Surabaya manage information in their learning process. The results show that, in finding/refinding activities, the majority of students (88%) need additional information related to subject matter accessed via the internet (91%). In keeping activities, students tend to save information on WhatsApp via the message yourself feature (81%). At the-level, the majority of students (91%) prioritize the privacy and security of their academic information. They also often separate relevant information from irrelevant (63%), although not yet effectively. Obstacles faced include device and screen reader problems (84%), as well as the tendency of students to forget where their information is stored (80%). However, 53% of students feel that the information management strategies they apply can support their daily learning activities.
