Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the fishbowl method to improve decision making for further study in vocational school counselor. This research was an experiment study with one group pretest- posttets design. The subject of vocational counseling guidance teachers (school counselors) research in East Jakarta. The population in this study were 32 vocational school counselors. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling of 15 people. The research instrument used was the scale of the decision made by the researchers themselves, with a validity of 0.304 (Pearson Product Moment) and reliability of 0.894 (Alpha Cronbach), data normality test with the Shapiro-Wilk test (0.567 0.05). Data analysis techniques using parametric statistics with paired sample t-test with (t = -18.263, p 0.05). The results of the study provide an understanding that group guidance services with the fishbowl method were effective in increasing further study decision making in vocational school counselors.

Abstract

This paper aims to identify high school students reading habit and describe their perceptions on reading for pleasure. There were 41 high school students grade XI involved in this study. Data were collected from questionnaires, observation, and an interview. Results indicate that during holidays nearly 50% of the students read sometimes, 12% read once a week, 9% once in a month, and 29% never read although books are available. The students agree that reading for pleasure give many benefits, but the quantitative data indicate students low interest in reading. This may be due to the reading culture which has not been sufficiently developed since the early ages. In addition, the availability and accessibility of reading materials seems to play roles in determining the students reading interest. Reading materials should also vary in genres, in themes, and in forms of both printed and on-screen regarding students digital nativity. This study has, therefore, initiated the needs for libraries with good book collection, facilities, and interesting design to attract students.DOI: doi.org/10.24071/ijiet.2019.030108

Abstract

The result of observation and interview shows that the learning process in Nguyen Tat Thanh High School was going fun and everyday teacher used different method of learning, sometimes teacher also made a worksheet for students, but the power point presentation media that teacher used did not show the interaction between media, teacher and students. Also there were unnecessary pictures on the power point that could distract students focus and the colour combination was not suitable. This research aimed to develop an interactive multimedia and know its feasibility and effectiveness. This study had significance to develop an alternative instructional multimedia in an education game way so could increase students motivation and learning outcome. The design of this research was Research and Development with ADDIE model. The data of this research were obtained from validation result from media expert and instructional expert, students response at small scale test, post test result and students response at large scale test. The score of validation result for the media expert was 96 categorized as very feasible and for the instructional expert was 62 categorized as feasible. Small scale test result showed that students gave very good response with 69.97 score. Students post test gave effective result with classical completeness 61.76% and very good response with 68.5 score. It can be concluded that the elements periodic table interactive multimedia was feasible and effective to be used in learning process, and have very good response from the students as users.DOI: https://doi.org/10.24071/ijiet.2018.020101

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the shifting of teaching-learning process from the combination of F2F and online learning to full-online one. This study aims to investigate students’ perspective on the implementation of full-online learning mode in English classroom with a low-tech environment. Employing convenience sampling, 104 university students participated in this study. Survey method was utilized. The findings showed that (1) the respondents have had various level of familiarity using search engine, social media, e-resources and learning apps that enable them to comprehend the learning content; (2) the use of social media, e-resources and learning apps results a different impact on respondents’ perception on learning effectiveness; (3) the respondents are more digitally-literate in using learning application or other online-based platforms and enable to autonomously learn the course materials as well as improve their language skills; (4) support system needs to be increased to engage students in teaching and learning activities; (5) there is a requirement of feedback and consistency in determining course schedule and timeline for task and exam submission. It can be concluded that university students have positive and negative perspective on full-online learning mode. Suggestions are presented in the closure.

Abstract

In Indonesia, graph theory is not part of Mathematics primary or secondary school Curriculum. Most students learn graph theory in university, especially those who takes major in Mathematics or Computer Science. This paper is a theoretical study in Mathematics Education which proposes some Mathematics classroom activities based on some concepts in graph theory to develop critical thinking for high school students as well as grade school. Some concepts in graph theory, such as vertex coloring and domination set can be used in primary and secondary schools to develop critical thinking of the students. These activities should be fun for the students since teacher may use it as a game in the class room.

Abstract

This study investigates the complexities of a teacher training course designed by the Ministry of Education and Culture as a program to improve the teaching skills of teachers. A teacher training program, called Teaching Competency Improvement Program, was conducted as a part of continuing professional development for Indonesian teachers. This training program involved teachers as the facilitators who had attended a one-week training of trainers (ToT) prior to their duties as facilitators. Only those who passed the post test in the ToT were entitled to act as training facilitators. Each facilitator facilitated ten to twenty teacher colleagues in their respective zones following IN1-IN2-ON1-IN3-ON2- IN4-ON3-IN5 pattern for duration of 82 contact hours. This study involved 89 facilitators as respondents to an online survey. Data was gathered and analyzed using qualitative descriptive method. The finding of the study includes problems in the technological tools used in the training program, the time management, the content of the training, coordination problem among parties, and the effectiveness of the training program.

Abstract

This study focused on evaluating the agribusiness students’ negative experiences in learning Calculus. The study employed 121 agribusiness students in the first semester of the school year 2019-2020 at Visayas State University, Baybay City, Leyte, Philippines. Selected secondary data from the study of Casinillo and Casinillo (2020a) was utilized in this study. With the aid of a correlational research approach, this study stresses to explain the nature and characteristics of negative effects of learning calculus which is very helpful for improving the level of achievement of students and modifying the strategy of mathematics teachers. Results showed that most of the agribusiness students don’t have enough background in pre-calculus topics since there are only 9% of them took a STEM strand during senior high school. Seemingly, it is revealed that students are experiencing extreme stress, natural emotional exhaustion and frustration, and average absenteeism, somatic burden, and laziness in learning Calculus. It is found out that the negative experiences of these agribusiness students are significantly related to each other. This suggests that these negative experiences are inter-correlated and dependent on each other which is wearisome to their studies and leads to poor academic performance. However, these students are driven to pursue studying calculus since it's part of their requirements in their degree program. Hence, by proper motivation and appropriate teaching strategy in Calculus, these students can progress their level of achievement.
