Abstract

nnovation in the field of learning is needed so that learning becomes interesting and fun.   The development of learning innovations in the form of thematic videos stimulating students' imagination to write poetry is one of the efforts to make learning to write poetry fun and make it easy to write poetry. The method used to develop thematic videos stimulating students' imagination to write poetry is the ADDIE method. Imagination-stimulating thematic videos cover four broad themes: nature, events, self-portraits, and fiction. Each theme consists of five videos with a duration of 5 minutes so the total videos produced are 20 videos. Imagination-stimulating thematic videos are accompanied by guidebooks and even complete with course descriptions, semester learning plans, and lecture units of the first to sixteenth meetings. Video thematic imagination stimulants proved to be able to arouse the imagination of students before writing poetry, in fact when the video I tested in a poetry writing class in 2018, they were so absorbed that even some students were moved and cried when watching the imagination-stimulating video of the self-portrait theme, namely 'mother'. The results of the trial showed that thematic videos stimulating imagination were able to provoke students to be more productive in writing poetry.

Abstract

This research describes the phonological comparison between Indonesian and English, both the similarities and differences, as well as the implications for language teaching and learning. This research uses contrastive analysis. The result analysis shows that both Indonesian and English exhibit notable similarities and differences in their phonology, influencing language acquisition and communication for learners. While they both utilize the Latin alphabet and share identical letters, aiding in written comprehension, their phoneme systems differ. Indonesian has a simpler system with fewer vowel phonemes, whereas English presents a wider range, including long and short phonemes. Pronunciation patterns in English are more intricate, often varying based on word position, while Indonesian maintains a more straightforward approach. Additionally, English has more exceptions to spelling rules, contributing to its complexity compared to Indonesian. Differences in accent, intonation, and word stress patterns further distinguish the two languages. English speakers may exhibit distinct accents and intonation, impacting pronunciation. The differences in language structure between Indonesian and English also contribute to their phonological differences. Indonesian has a simpler structure than English, which also influences the arrangement and pronunciation of sounds in the language. Understanding these disparities is crucial for learners to navigate the nuances of each language effectively. Despite these differences, the shared phonological foundations offer significant advantages for learners, facilitating proficiency in both Indonesian and English phonology. Effective teaching of English phonology for Indonesian students involves addressing both similarities and differences between the two languages. Teachers should raise awareness of shared phonological features like the Latin alphabet and common consonants/vowels, while also focusing on unique English concepts such as long and short vowels and complex spelling patterns. Specific exercises, a structural approach, contextual learning, technology integration, drills, and relevant materials enhance phonological skills development.

Abstract

Gender oppression remains a pervasive issue in society, frequently depicted in various forms of media, including fairy tale adaptations. Rooted in societal constructions that favor men, this oppression manifests through both explicit and implicit mechanisms, positioning women as subordinate. This research investigates the portrayal of gender oppression in Robert Stromberg's Maleficent (2014) using a feminist literary analysis. Employing liberal feminist theory, the study examines the film to uncover the dynamics of gender oppression. The analysis identifies three primary outcomes: the indicators of gender oppression present in the film, the depiction of this oppression through character, style, and diction, and the contextual reasons behind the film's emphasis on gender oppression, which are linked to the personal experiences of its creators. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of how gender oppression is constructed and represented in contemporary media.
