Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve learning activity and learning achievement of chemical education students in the odd semester who took the course Mathematics for Chemistry in the academic year of 2017/2018. This is a classroom action research consisting of three cycles, each of which includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. An observation sheet was used for collecting student and lecturer activities, whereas student achievement was collected using essay tests. The results show that the observation score for student activity for cycle 1, cycle 2, and cycle 3 were 20 (sufficient category), 25 (good category), and 27 (good category) respectively. Whereas, the average tests were 65.6; 80.4; and 81.3 for cycle 1, cycle 2, and cycle 3 respectively. It can be concluded that instruction of mathematics for chemistry courses aided by Microsoft Excel for students who took this course in the odd semester, the academic year of 2017/2018 could increase student learning activity and learning achievement. Abstract

This research is a research and development of teaching materials in the form of a pocketbook based on the study of the identification of medicinal plants in the Serawai people of South Bengkulu. The purpose of this study was to determine the medicinal plants, the content of secondary metabolite phytochemical compounds in each plant, and the validity and responses of students to the developed pocketbook. The development model used is the research and development (R&D) model of Bord and Gall (1983) which is limited to the seventh stage, namely the revision of the product from the limited trial results. From the research, 19 (nineteen) medicinal plants were selected that were used by the Serawai people of South Bengkulu. The results of secondary metabolite screening showed that the medicinal plants found contained various levels of tannins, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and steroids. The validity of the pocketbook from the study of the identification of medicinal plants in the Serawai tribal community obtained an average value of 84.3% for the material aspect and 91.7% for the media aspect which was included in the very appropriate category. Student responses regarding the pocket book of medicinal plants developed obtained a value the percentage of material aspects, media, benefits are 85.8%, 88.0%, and 87.0%, respectively with an average of 86.9% which were included in the very good criteria. Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the anticholesterol activity of the stem extract of Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr. on total cholesterol levels in male mice (Mus musculus). Before carrying out the anticholesterol activity test, phytochemical tests were carried out to determine the content of secondary metabolites in Uncaria cordata stems. Furthermore, the anticholesterol activity test was carried out in vivo using male mice, male mice were induced by high-fat diet (PTL) in the form of beef brain, quail egg yolk and propylthiouracil to increase cholesterol levels in mice until they experienced hypercholesterolemia, then mice were induced by plant extracts to see anticholesterol activity. Cholesterol levels were measured using a glucometer (Autocheck). Phytochemical test results showed the content of secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, tannins and terpenoids. The results of the anti-cholesterol activity test showed that there was anti-cholesterol activity as indicated by a decrease in cholesterol levels in mice with hypercholesterolemia. A decrease of 11.45% at a dose of 5.3 mg/30grW; 12.89% at a dose of 10.2mg/30grW and 21.05% at a dose of 21.2mg/30grW. Key words : Anticholesterol, Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr., Hypercholesterolemia

Abstract

The era of the industrial revolution 4.0 in education is characterized by the use of technology in the learning process. This study aims to test the feasibility, test student responses and see student learning outcomes on android-based teaching materials on the mole concept material at SMAN 4 Kota Bengkulu. The research was conducted using the Research & Development (R&D) method using a 4D development model which was limited to the 3D stage (Define, Design and Development). The feasibility test of android-based teaching materials is seen through the assessment of media and material experts, test student responses on small-scale and large-scale tests and student learning outcomes from the N-Gain score. The assessment of the feasibility of android-based teaching materials was carried out by two media and materials experts respectively. The results of the feasibility obtained are the results of media validation 91% and the results of material validation 88.33% with a very feasible category. Student response tests were carried out on a small and large scale. Determination of small-scale and large-scale samples with a normality test for all students of class X SMAN 4 Kota Bengkulu TA 2020/2021, obtained 9 students of class X IPA 1 as samples of the small-scale response test and 34 students of class X IPA 2 as samples of large-scale response test. The results of the small-scale student response test are 91.79% and the large-scale response test results are 85.9%, with a very good category. Learners on a large scale are also seen from their learning outcomes from the N-Gain score obtained, which is 0.62 or is in the medium category. The results obtained show that android-based teaching materials on the mole concept material are very feasible to be used in the learning process. Abstract

This study aims to help students understand the ion balance material in a salt solution more easily at the three levels of chemical representation, by developing an e-module. E-module was developed using Flip PDF Professional with ADDIE development model. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 3 Bengkulu City with a research sample of 12 students of class XI MIPA 5 for small-scale trials and 28 students of class XI MIPA 3 for large-scale trials. The research data were obtained from interviews, material and media validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and e- module readability, as well as pretest and posttest results. The results of the study obtained that the feasibility level of the e-module on the material aspect was 90% and the media was 95.45% with both categories being very valid. Student responses obtained percentage results, namely 86.11% with very good criteria, and e-module readability for students, namely 87.38% in the very readable category. The N-Gain score for students' cognitive learning outcomes at 0.812 which was included in the high category. The results of this study indicate that the e-module based on the chemical representation of the ion balance material in a salt solution is very good and suitable for use in the learning process because it helps students understand the material at three levels of chemical representation, namely macroscopic, submicroscopic and symbolic. Abstract

This research is the creation of a Game-Based Chemistry Learning Evaluation Tool Using the Quizizz Application which aims to assist educators in evaluating the learning process and overcoming problems faced by educators and implementing the evaluation of the learning process. This evaluation tool uses a 4D development model from Thiagarajan. The study was conducted at SMAN 2 Bengkulu Selatan with a research sample of 6 chemistry teacher educators in 6 different schools and 32 students of class X MIPA 3 for the 2020/2021 academic year. The data of this study were obtained from the results of the material and media validation questionnaire, the results of the initial trial, the educator response questionnaire, and the student response questionnaire. From the research results obtained (1) the feasibility level of the evaluation tool on the material aspect is 92.61% and the media aspect is 96.43% with a very valid category. The results of the item analysis showed that 9 questions were not used and 31 questions were used, and the reliability was 0.923 in the very high category. (2) the introduction and trial phase by educators received a positive response with a percentage of 93.98%, meaning that the game-based chemistry learning evaluation tool using the quizizz application on the nomenclature of chemical compounds is very interesting and can be a solution in overcoming problems faced by educators. (3) In the trial phase, students received a positive response with a percentage of 88.84% which stated that the game-based chemistry learning evaluation tool using the quizizz application on the nomenclature of chemical compounds was very interesting.  Keywords: evaluation tool, compound nomenclature, quizizz

Abstract

This study aims to determine the feasibility and response of students to the e-LKPD based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the materials on the basic chemical laws that were developed. The development model used is the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate) which was limited to the develop-stage. The research subjects were 27 students from class XI MIPA 2 at SMA Negeri 03 Bengkulu Tengah for the 2022/2023 academic year. The research was from January to September 2022. The instruments in this study were interview sheets, observation sheet, student needs questionnaires, validation sheets and student response questionnaires. The data generated was in the form of qualitative data in the form of suggestions from the validator as well as quantitative data resulting from validation sheets and student response questionnaires. From the research results obtained (1) the Problem Based Learning-based e-LKPD developed was stated to be very feasible by material experts with a percentage of 88% where the lowest score was in the linguistic aspect, while media experts also stated it was very feasible with a percentage of 93.5% where the score the lowest is in the graphical aspect, (2) the results of student responses to the e-LKPD Problem Based Learning are in the very good category with a percentage of 84.76% where the lowest score is in the aspect of ease of understanding. The conclusion based on the results of the validation and student responses shows that the Problem Based Learning-based e-LKPD that has been developed is very feasible for use in the learning process on material basic chemical laws.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a scientific literacy-based test instrument to measure students' scientific literacy at SMA Negeri 9 Bengkulu City in thermochemistry material. The development model used is the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were classes XI MIPA 3 and XI MIPA 2 at SMA Negeri 9 Bengkulu City for the academic year 2022/2023 which were selected based on a purposive sampling technique with a population of 3 classes, which was then subjected to a homogeneity test so that a homogeneous class was obtained, namely class XI MIPA 2 for large scale test and XI MIPA 3 for small scale test. The research period starts from January to September 2022. The research data was obtained from interviews, expert validation sheets, empirical test analysis, reliability, level of difficulty, discriminating power, and analysis of students' scientific literacy levels. The number of instruments developed is 6 items in the form of essays. The research results were obtained using the Ministep application, so that the items developed were declared valid by the validator with a CVR (Content Validity Ratio) value of at least 0.78 for each question, and the CVI (Content Validity Text) value obtained was 0. 94 with very good category. The results of the empirical validity test were carried out on 15 students of class XI MIPA 3 and obtained 8 valid questions. The developed scientific literacy-based test instrument has a reliability value of 0.85 in the very good reliability category so that it can be used to measure students' scientific literacy level. The results of implementing the development of scientific literacy-based test instruments obtained 1 student who had a high level of scientific literacy, 2 students who had a moderate level of scientific literacy, and 23 students with a scientific literacy level at the nominal scientific Literacy level. The results of the development of scientific literacy-based test instruments have proven to be accurate and reliable so that they can be used to measure students' scientific literacy, especially in thermochemical material. Abstract

Kalakai (scientific name Stenochlaena palustris) is a type of fern that is often used by the people of Kalimantan as a vegetable. The Kalakai plant which grows a lot in the lowland swamp areas of Central Kalimantan is a type of fern plant. Kalakai contains high levels of minerals, vitamin C, folic acid, and protein when compared to other local vegetables in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. The active compounds that act as antioxidants in kalakai are flavonoids and phenols. Flavonoids and phenols act as free radical scavengers to prevent diseases that attack the body thereby strengthening the body's immunity. Traditionally, kalakai is consumed by the Dayak people. This article is a review article that uses the descriptive literature study method to find scientific information or research that proves coherently the benefits or applications of the kalakai. Kalakai which activity as an antioxidant has health benefits such as being able to increase hemoglobin levels so that it can prevent anemia has cytotoxicity in MCF-7 breast cancer cells and prevents antihyperlipidemic by reducing Low-density lipoprotein (LDL).

Abstract

One of the materials in chemistry learning where there are many abstract concepts is the shape of a molecule (Molecular Geometry). An ethnopedagogical approach will make the learning process meaningful because the material is associated with a cultural product from the Palembang area. The research procedure used is Research and Development research developed by Borg & Gall. The preliminary study and development phases were carried out in the first year of this research, while the field trial phase will be carried out in the following year. This research focuses on the development stage which consists of (1) the Initial Product Development Stage in the form of making mobile learning displays, creating application content, and developing applications; (2) the Initial Trial Stage (Learning Media Validation Test) based on media, language, and material experts; and (3) Initial Product Completion Stage. Data collection techniques in this study used a questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that mobile learning based on augmented reality is an added value because it is very flexible and helps students project their understanding. In addition, this application can improve students' spatial abilities and be able to analyze cultural contexts in everyday life in chemistry learning materials
