Abstract

The present study aims to elucidate the construction of the values of the Qur’an as the basis for the Islamic education development based on Abdullah Saeed’s thought. The concept of a hierarchy of values initiated by Abdullah Saeed is a continuation of Rahman’s general principles, proposing a new way of looking at the ethico-legal verses in the Qur’an, so that this concept is very pivotal in contemporary Qur’anic studies. Framed in a library research with a content analysis, this study constructed a basic framework from the values of the Qur’an. Abdullah Saeed’s book entitled “Interpreting the Qur’an: Towards a Contemporary Approach” became the primary source in obtaining the data. Study findings reveal that the construction of the Qur’anic values comprises obligatory, fundamental, protective, implementation, and instructional values. The construction can be adopted as the basis for Islamic education development regarding the institution, courses, values and culture. This study also demonstrates that Qur’anic values-based Islamic education is completely projected to produce qualified and competitive human resources in the globalized age.

Abstract

Some experts believe that students are considered to be a distinctive target for radical groups’ mobilization, especially for those who are enrolled for Rohis activities at schools. This is in line with some survey result revealing that the rampant radicalism among students has increased. Unfortunately, studies on radicalism prevention tend to be more theoretical and focusing more on MA / SMA / SMK students. This study aims to reveal the rationale behind the radicalism prevention which includes some various efforts to prevent radicalism, and the results accomplished from such effort in Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) students. This is significantly important because MTs students are in their early adolescence phase that is unstable, imitative, and aggressive which makes them vulnerable for being exposed to radicalism. This study utilizes a qualitative approach. The data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, which were then, analyzed using the interactive models of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana which consisted of condensation, presentation, and verification. This study suggested that radicalism prevention was driven by the deep concern of principals and teachers of Madrasah over the rise of students who are exposed to radicalism. Madrasahs are seen to be seriously giving vaccines to students so that they are immune from the radicalism virus. The vaccine is internalized systemically and continuously involving the process of strengthening nationalism in daily routine and extracurricular activities, strengthening the counter-radicalization through the subject of PAI and PPKn, and developing the Aswaja-NU based curriculum. The vaccine is at a certain level capable of establishing students’ religious moderation values as well as it can strengthen their immunity from the confrontation of the radicalism virus. Student immunity, of course, is not interminable for the conflict between vaccines and viruses is timeless so that Madrasah must always continuously update the types of vaccines and the internalization methods.

To analyze the data, triangulation is performed to display the frequency distribution, and simple regression analysis is also carried out to find the data related to the effect of the accreditation. Study results expose that firstly, there was a significant improvement in the students’ interest after study program accreditation with an average of 87.5%. Secondly, the accreditation grade gave a positive and significant effect on students’ interest in choosing study programs at a public Islamic university in West Papua, Indonesia. Lastly, there were several endeavors taken into account to increase accreditation score, i.e. synergizing an integrated internal quality assurance system, having an acceleration program for students’ length of study, digitizing students’ admission system, enhancing digital-based learning models, and increasing lecturers’ competence in academic writing, community service, and publication. The present study suggests that the quality of study program accreditation should be a pivotal concern in organizing Islamic higher education.

Abstract:Globalization is shown by the development in science and technology which brings great effects including the positive and negative one. One of the negative effects of globalization is the emergence of consumerism, hedonism, and secularism which causes moral decadence of the nations. The worse condition of this condition can be seen from the bad attitude and behavior of the students. Therefore, Islamic education which has main role in constructing moral of the students should be rearranged to solve this problem. This condition shows the importance of revitalizing the strategy of Islamic education in minimizing moral decadence of the nations.
