Understanding of Isbāl Hadiths in a Sociological PerspectiveThis study aims to further analyze the differences among Muslims in understanding the isbāl hadith focused on two questions. First, whether the isbāl prohibition contained in various pure hadiths is religious normativity or sociological reasons for particular interests. Second, how is the best way to understand the isbāl hadith prohibition. The study of this issue uses a sociological approach and thematic correlative methods. The study results found that the hadiths that prohibit isbāl are tasyri'iyyah hadith (legal /normative), but the law is not universal but conditional. It happens because the emergence of the hadiths prohibiting isbāl is inseparable from the sociological factor at that time, which was a form of rejection of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH against the jahiliyyah culture. The correlative study of the hadith found that 'illat prohibiting isbāl is khuyyala' (arrogance). The proper understanding of this hadith is a contextual understanding using the rules of ushul fiqh yadūrul ḥukmi ma'a al-'illah wujūdan wa'adaman (the application of the law is closely related to the presence or absence of 'illat). The prohibition isbāl aimed specially for people who do it because of their arrogance, not to people who do it without their arrogance

The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the vision of education according to the Al-Qur’an and then found its relevance to modern character education theory. This study used qualitative design by using library research and specifically used in the mawdhu'i interpretation approach. The study results have shown that the integration of educational goals was seen in the use of several terms in the Al-Qur’an related to education. Dhikr was integrated with thinking, integration of understanding (cognitive) by acting what is understood (affective and psychomotor), applying syar'i law was integrated with the purpose of its application, and integration of thinking about nature by acknowledging the power of Allah. The verse signs that indicate integration in educational goals indicate that the domains of educational goals could not be separated but as a whole. The implication in the formulation of goals should not separate the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Thoughts, exercise, and sports might be integrated and synergized.

The Relations of Authority and Traditions in Pancasila Discourse on Tafsir Al-AzharRevealing the reasons and describing Hamka's interpretation behind his inconsistency and ambiguity towards Pancasila discourse in Tafsir Azhar and several of his works is the aim of this article. On one side, Hamka accepted Pancasila (1951), but on the other side, Hamka firmly rejected Pancasila (1957-1966). This paper will highlight the phenomenon above using the Maudhui Al-Farmawi method of interpretation and philosophical Hermeneutic Theory of Hans Georg Gadamer. This research proves that the existence of a relationship of authority and tradition encompassing Hamka has implications for inconsistencies (acceptance and rejection) in Pancasila discourse in his primary work Tafsir Al-Azhar and the other several secondary works. In this case, the writer concludes that Hamka, through authority and tradition, undergoes a formation and transformation within himself, so that he no longer tends to impose his objective and reflective attitudes on some of his subjects. However, he is also open-ended in a way that lets others speak differently, so that it has implications for the intersection and integration (fusion) horizons of understanding. Hamka Transformation in the context of Pancasila can be understood that Hamka is an idealistic figure in understanding the first principle of "God Almighty" and a compromise figure in understanding the second to the fifth precept.

Form Analysis as a Method of Matn Criticism: Scrutinizing the Accuracy of Robert Marston Speight's Thought (1924-2011)Together with sanad, matn is the main component in a hadith. Among the important discussions regarding matn is the existence of several matn which have different editorials while informing one incident. This problem is usually called the problem of matn with various versions (ta'addud al-riwāyāt; variant version). In the West, this problem has received the attention of many academics, among them Robert Marston Speight. He offers a form analysis method for studying and researching the problem of matn with various versions. This paper systematically describes how the Speight analysis method is, and how its position is in the study of hadith in the West. Critical analysis of the Speight method was also carried out by comparing it with the views of other academics and also the views of muhaddiṡūn. This paper uses a qualitative method in the form of a research library with a critical analysis model. This paper shows several conclusions: the method of analysis used by Speight, namely form analysis, is the development of the method of analysis of the matn which has been introduced, especially by Schacht with the purposes of dating tradition; many academics both in the West and the East doubted Speight's method of analysis and criticized its accuracy; and when compared to the muhaddiṡūn method, the Speight method contains several methodological flaws.

This article discusses an interpretation of the Qur’an by Abdullah Saeed using the contextual interpretation model. However, this paper will focus on how Abdullah Saeed developed the concept of the hierarchy of values inspired by Fazlur Rahman's thought, which discussed the problem hierarchy of values as general principles. However, Fazlur Rahman did not provide specific devices to develop the hierarchy of values. Abdullah Saeed developed and formulated the concept hierarchy of values into five levels, including obligatory values, fundamental values, protective values, implementational values, and instructional values. The five hierarchies of values become a complete unified frame as an effort to the contextual interpretation of the Qur’an, especially the ethico-legal verses that mostly fill the daily life of most Muslims based on the understanding of maqashid al-sharia and the concept of good deeds. This study uses a descriptive analysis method and hermeneutic analysis techniques to apply the concept hierarchy of values in the Qur’anic interpretation. The results of this paper are in the contextual interpretation of QS. Al-Hujurat verses 1-18 contain the five hierarchical levels of values that have been specifically conceived by Abdullah Saeed

Civilization of the Text: The Concept of Al-Quran Interpretation by Syed Naquib Al-Attas in Facing ModernizationSyed Nuqaib al-Attas projected a civilization rooted in the Quran and Hadith texts which were motivated by the massive secularization of values in Muslim countries by offering the concept of al-Quran interpretation. This paper aims to compile the concept of al-Attas Quranic interpretation, which is still scattered in some of his works, by building the structure of ideas and worldviews of the concept that the author calls metalinguistic interpretation. This paper uses an interpretive discourse analysis method. This method constructs the discourse by al-Attas ideas in his works, especially on two themes: 1) Islamic civilization and 2) the interpretation of the Quran. This article concludes that al-Attas offers cross-disciplinary knowledge that integrates the text of the Quran with other perspectives, namely: philosophy, intellectual tasawwuf, linguistics, and metaphysics. These cross-disciplines will produce an authoritative reading of the Quranic text and serve as a foundation to build a civilization facing modernity with various terminological offers, such as Ta'dib, din, ikhtiyar, and Islam. Furthermore, this position makes al-Attas different from several other figures such as Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd and Jamaluddin al-Afghani in the same discourse

Many contemporary thinkers have introduced various theories in Quranic studies. For example, Fazlur Rahman with double movement theory, Gadamer through a fusion of the horizon, and Abdullah Saeed with contextual interpretation. Meanwhile, Ingrid Mattson’s thoughts on the interpretation of the Koran have not been widely studied by scholars. Mattson has placed the historical context, the personal context of the reader, and the context of the reader's understanding as an integral part of the theory of interpretation. This article wishes to dissect the anatomy of Mattson's interpretation of the Koran. With the historical textual criticism approach popularized by Muhammad Mustafá Azami, this study concludes that apart from historical aspects, the interpretation of the Koran is also strongly influenced by the authority of the rulers at that time, individual charisma (ulama), and the consensus of religious experts. The reduction of God’s message is also very vulnerable to the rampant action of translating the Koran from Arabic into ajam (non-Arabic) language. These three aspects are the constructs of Mattson's thought in his hermeneutical study. Therefore, it is hoped that this academic discourse will add to the style of thinking of scholars in the field of Qur'an studies, which previously have colored contemporary exegesis studies.

The Modus Operandi of Corruption and its Relation to the State Apparatus in the Prophet's Hadiths and Legislation in IndonesiaThis paper aims to explain the modes of corruption and their relation to the state apparatus in the Prophet's traditions and legislation in Indonesia. So far, when many people talk about corruption, their memory is only of the laws that govern it, as if only the laws and regulations regulate corruption. In fact, long before the legislation was made, the Prophet, through his hadiths, have provided clues about corruption. This research is qualitative descriptive using a literature study that relies on library sources in the form of classic books, books, scientific journals, and other literature sources that are considered relevant. This study finds similarities between the Prophet's hadiths and Indonesian legislation in linking corruption (al-gulūl) to the state apparatus ('āmil) and that the modes of corruption are budget fraud, abuse of authority, embezzlement, and gratification and bribe. The mode then increases and develops with the times. Hopefully, through this writing, there will be awareness again that involvement in corruption is not only a violation of laws but also a violation of religious teachings and its legal consequences not only in the world but also in the hereafter.

Locality of Minangkabau in Interpretation of the Qur’an: (the study of Minangkabau interpretation of the 20th century)This study aims to find the absorption of locality in the interpretation of the Qur'an in Minangkabau, and to prove that Anthony H. Johns 'statement "cannot be denied the influence of local language in explaining the Al-Qur'an" and Islah Gusmian's statement "tafsir Al-Qur'an as a cultural product, it certainly struggles with tradition, culture, and socio-political realities”. This research is a qualitative research type of library research (library research), which uses a historical-philosophical approach. The primary sources of this research are the interpretation of Tafsir al-Burhân by Haji Abdul Karim Amarullah, Risâlah al-Qaul al-Bayyân fî Tafsîr al-Qur'ân, the work of Syeikh Sulaiman Arrasuli, and the tafsir of al-Da'wah wa al-Irsyâd ilâ Sabîl al -Rasyad by Abdul Lathif Syakur. This research found several aspects of locality in the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an Minangkabau, namely; first, the writing of interpretation as a request from the community, second, the absorption of local languages in translating and interpreting the Qur'an, third, using local samples in interpretation, fourth, the absorption of local customs in interpretation, and fifth using Minangkabau adagium in interpretation. Thus, the Minangkabau tafsir al-Qur'an is full of locality absorption

The Urgency of Qur’anic Literary Zoology: A Case Study on the Art of the Zoomorphic Story of Al-Farasy in Surah Al-Qari'ahThe criminalization of animals can be manifested in concrete actions and disproportionate interpretation of religious texts. This paper aims to describe the urgency of a literary zoological perspective on animal studies in the Quran and provide examples of its application in analyzing one of the cases of animal criminalization al-Farasy in Surat Al-Qari'ah. The author uses qualitative research methods with descriptive-interpretive analysis. The author uses the theory of Tasybih and Roland Barthes’s Semiotics theory with a literary zoological approach. The results of this paper are: First, literary zoology is essential for animal research in the Quran for several reasons. They are (1) animals in the Quran are included in the literary category, so that an important literary approach is presented to find the meaning behind the existential of animals in the Quran, (2) ) Literary zoology is interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary. Based on these characteristics, the zoosembiology between literature and animals can be expressed comprehensively and holistically, (3) literary zoological opposes anthropocentric philosophy, which is alleged to have produced many actions that destroy nature. Nature conservation, especially related to the future of animals, needs to be encouraged in the current era. Second, the discrimination against al-Farasy by the ulama resulted in monodisciplinary studies. Al-Farsy as an example of humans when the Day of Judgment comes is not meant for taqbih halihi (humiliating the human condition when the Day of Judgment comes), but rather for bayanu halihi and taqriru halihi (reporting the situation)
