Abstract

The study is aimed to reveal the correlation between student’s English interest, vocabulary mastery toward student’s English achievement of the second-semester Students of Islamic Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty of IAIN Pontianak in the academic year of 2017/2018. This study used a test, a questionnaire, and documentation to collect the data. The population of the study is all of the second-semester students while the sample is 50 students taken by cluster random sampling technique. The techniques used to analyze the data are simple and multiple correlation and regression by using SPSS 23. The results of the study show that there is a positive correlation between student’s English interest, and vocabulary mastery toward student’s English achievement. The positive correlation indicates that English interest, and vocabulary mastery line together with student’s English achievement.keywords: correlation, english interest, vocabulary mastery english achievement

Abstract

The present study explored pre-service teachers’ self-regulated learning strategyand motivation in EFL academic writing. A further aim of the study is toinvestigate the relationship between their self-regulated learning strategy andmotivation as well as to explore the revision behaviors in English academicwriting. A questionnaire was administered to 56 pre-service teachers (PST)majoring English language education. The questionnaire covered 16 items ofquestions regarding self-regulated learning strategy comprising environmentalprocess, behavioral process, and personal process, as well as motivation. PSTs’revisions of academic writing were also assessed using writing revision categoriesto identify their revision behaviors. Descriptive analyses indicated thatparticipants were moderate to high in their self-regulated learning strategy andmotivation toward their writing activities. Furthermore, the result showed thatdespite the fact that self-regulated learning strategy in the aspect of environmentalstrategy and personal strategy did not significantly correlate with motivation,behavioral strategy significantly correlated with motivation. In addition to this,among the revision categories, the aspects of organization, citation, mechanics,language use, and references were the most common categories of revisions,while content and format were the least ones. The study might have implicationon the PST’s EFL academic writing instruction.Keywords: self-regulated learning strategy, motivation, revision, EFL academicwriting

Abstract

The research was aimed to examine the operation technique to improve teaching speaking in a procedure text. The research was Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The participants of the research were year 11 students of SMK Al-Madani Pontianak who had difficulties in speaking skills, especially in performing spoken texts in a procedure text. The data were divided into qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were collected by using questionnaires, video recordings, observation sheets, observation’s checklists, student’s self-evaluation, and field notes. Meanwhile, the quantitative data were collected from the student’s performance tests. The finding showed that through operation, the student’s learning behavior changed positively from less to good. The writer concludes that the use of operation technique which is adjusted to the classroom’s condition improve teaching speaking in a procedure text as well as the student’s speaking skill in performing the procedure text.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui  bagaimana teknik Peer Editing dapat meningkatkan penulisan mahasiswa untuk mahasiswa semester dua program studi pendidikan Agama Islam di IAIN Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2016/2017. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahapan;  perencanaan, tindakan, mengamati, dan evaluasi.  Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa kelas A yang terdiri dari 34mahasiswa dengan perincian 10 mahasiswa pria dan 24 mahasiswa wanita. Penelitian ini menggunakan observasi dan pengukuran sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis menggunakan data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data kualitatif diambil dari daftar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan perekam sementara data kuantitatif diambil dari tes menulis mahasiswa. Kemudian, dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif untuk data kualitatif dan statistik deskriptif dengan data kuantitatif.Berdasarkan hasil checklist observasi, catatan lapangan, dan perekam, mahasiswa merasa termotivasi untuk menulis. Mereka juga aktif dan antusias selama proses pembelajaran dipandu oleh peneliti. Kemudian, hasil nilai individu mahasiswa pada tulisan mereka juga meningkat di siklus kedua. Dalam dua siklus itu, tidak ada siswa yang masuk kategori sangat buruk. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik Peer Editing berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa. Melalui teknik Peer Editing, para mahasiswa dapat menghasilkan dan mengatur ide-ide mereka dan menghasilkan teks  juga. Salah satu saran yang baik bagi dosen untuk menerapkan teknik Peer Editing sebagai cara alternatif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa.Kata kunci: menulis, teknik Peer Editing, IAIN PontianakAbstractThis research aimed to investigate how Peer Editing technique can improve students’ writing to the second semester students of Islamic education study program of IAIN Pontianak  in the academic year of  2016/2017. This classroom action research was done in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four actions; they were planning, acting, observing and reflecting.  Then, the subject of research was the students of class A consisting of 34 students with detail of 10 male students and 24 female students. This research used observation and measurement as the technique of collecting data. In collected the data, the writer used qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were taken from observation checklist, field note, and recorder while quantitative data were taken from the students’ writing test. Then, in analyzed the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative analysis to the qualitative data and statistic descriptive to the quantitative data.Based on the result of observation checklist, field note, and recorder, the students were feel motivated to write the text. They also were active and enthusiastic during the learning process guided by the researcher. Then, the result of the students’ individual score on their writing had improved too in the second cycle. In the two cycles, there were no students categorized into very poor level. The results of this research showed that the implementation of the Peer Editing technique was successful to improve the students’ writing skill. Through Peer Editing technique, the students were able to generate and organized their ideas and produce a text as well. It is better for the lecturer implemented the Peer Editing technique as the alternative ways to improve students writing skill.Keyword: Writing skill, Peer Editng technique, IAIN Pontianak

Abstract

This paper shows the qualitative study of the employment of websites to practice English listening skills of students. The samples in this survey were the students majoring in English, one of school education, Pontianak, Indonesia. The open-ended questionnaire and interview were used to compile the data. The study reported that the students held a positive attitude toward the use of the websites for practicing listening skills because of many advantages such as the websites offer unlimited opportunities to learn and practice their listening skill as if they are in the real situation with native speakers and these opportunities provided them more new English vocabularies. Moreover, it can facilitate them to create autonomous learning strategies. It was also found that it was so convenient when using the internet sites for practicing listening skills outside classroom and from book, anywhere and anytime. However, the students experienced a problem with the native speaker accent so they could not understand the conversation.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi keinginan peneliti untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis paragraf deskriptif dengan menggunakan model Examples Non Examples pada siswa kelas X IPS 1 MAN 1 Pontianak. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) mendeskripsikan proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran keterampilan menulis paragraf deskriptif dengan menggunakan model  Examples Non Examples pada siswa kelas X IPS 1 MAN 1 Pontianak, (2) mendeskripsikan proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran keterampilan menulis paragraf deskriptif dengan menggunakan model  Examples Non Examples pada siswa kelas X IPS 1 MAN 1 Pontianak.Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif dengan bentuk penelitian penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research). Adapun teknik pengumpul data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik observasi, wawancara, dan tes. Alat pengumpul data yang digunakan adalah pedoman observasi, panduan wawancara, dan soal tes. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah teknik deskriptif komperatif dan teknik analisis kritis.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan hal-hal berikut. Hasil observasi siswa siklus I persentase keseluruhannya adalah 66,40% sedangkan hasil observasi siswa siklus II persentase 78,20%. Hasil observasi siswa pada siklus I dan siklus II ini ada peningkatan, meningkat 11,8%. Selanjutnya, dari hasil penelitian dapat diketahui bahwa terdapat peningkatan dari prasiklus ke siklus I sebesar 13,38, peningkatan dari siklus I ke siklus II sebesar 6,15 dan peningkatan dari prasiklus ke siklus II sebesar 19,53.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai kesetiaan dalam novel Negeri di Ujung Tanduk karya Tere Liye berupa (1) kesetiaan terhadap peraturan dan kewajiban. (2) kesetiaan terhadap keteguhan hati, (3) kesetiaan terhadap pendirian/janji. Metode penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan metode deskriptif, dengan bentuk kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik studi dokumenter dengan cara mengumpulkan data yang dilakukan dengan mengklasifikasikan bahan-bahan tertulis yang berhubungan dengan masalah penelitian sesuai dengan fokus masalah. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu peneliti itu sendiri. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kajian isi. Berdasarkan fokus masalah dan tujuan dari penelitian, maka hasil analisis dari penelitian ini sebagai berikut. (1) kesetiaan terhadap peraturan dan kewajiban. (2) kesetiaan terhadap keteguhan hati, (3) kesetiaan terhadap pendirian/janji.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan fungsi pantun dalam upacara adat perkawinan Melayu Tanjung Hulu kecamatan Pontianak Timur. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan bentuk penelitian kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah penutur pantun dalam upacara adat perkawinan Melayu Tanjung Hulu kecamatan Pontianak. Teknik analisis data penelitian ini adalah model interaktif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa mendeskripsikan struktur dan fungsi pantun dalam upacara adat perkawinan Melayu Tanjung Hulu kecamatan Pontianak meliputi: diksi, terdiri dari makna denotasi dan konotasi; pengimajian, terdiri 2 imaji; rima; berdasarkan bunyi dan berdasarkan letak kata-kata dalam baris; dan fungsi pantun.

Abstract

The current study aimed at investigating (1) a significant difference of cooperative models of picture and picture, think-pair-share, and conventional model, (2) the most significant effectiveness of cooperative models of picture and picture, think-pair-share, and conventional model in learning process of descriptive writing at grade X of the students of SMAK Frateran Ndao Ende. This study belonged to quasi-experimental study with randomized control-group pretest-posttest design. 90 students with 30 students in each class were employed as samples using total sampling technique with three intact classes. The data were a non-test method in the form of a descriptive writing assignment. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA continued by Scheffe test. The upshots of the study denote that (1) there is a significant difference of cooperative models of picture and picture, think-pair-share, and conventional model in the learning process of descriptive writing with F=140.578, and a significant value of p0.05, (2) cooperative model of think-pair-share is the most effective type in the learning process of descriptive writing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan ada tidaknya korelasi antara penguasaan kosakata dan struktur kalimat dengan kemampuan menulis karangan narasi di Kelas IV SD Muhammadiyah PK Rabbani Klaten Tahun 2018/2019. Penelitian Studi Korelasional ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes dengan tiga variabel, yakni X1 penguasaan kosakata, X2 penguasaan struktur kalimat, dan Y  karangan narasi.Teknik analisis data dengan korelasi Product Moment, korelasi parsial, dan regresi ganda dengan taraf signifikan 0,05. Dari hasil analisis  disimpulkan bahwa ada korelasi antara X1 dengan Y dengan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,771. Ada korelasi antara X2 dengan Y dengan koefisien sebesar 0,441. Ada korelasi antara X1 dan X2 dengan Y dengan koefisien sebesar 0,884. Penguasaan kosakata memberikan sumbangan terhadap kemampuan menulis karangan narasi sebesar 59,16%, penguasaan struktur kalimat memberikan sumbangan terhadap kemampuan menulis karangan narasi sebesar 19,01 %.  Sumbangan penguasaan kosakata dan struktur kalimat terhadap kemampuan menulis karangan narasi sebesar 78,17%.Kata Kunci: penguasaan kosakata, struktur kalimat, karangan narasi
