Abstract

Reflective practice is essential for teachers’ professional development. It leads teacher to shape and reshape their knowledge, and so forth a wide range of benefits can be achieved. However, to gain such benefits, teachers must have good quality of reflective practice. This qualitative case study aimed at investigating quality of reflective practice of four female EFL pre-service teachers in Indonesia. Framed with qualitative case study, this study employed online reflective journals as the main instrument to collect the data. The data were analysed deductively using content analysis. The results revealed that participants’ reflection tended to remain in the level of D1 and D2 which meant that they had tendency to merely retell and describe their teaching practice with limited evaluation. Only few of them were captured to reflect on the level of R1 and R2. In sum, although Indonesian EFL pre-service teachers had tendency to reflect in low level, it was interesting to find the fact that they sometimes reflected more critically in the level of R1 and R2. The result could be used as indicator that Indonesian EFL pre-service teachers had ability to reflect in a good way. Thus, following actions by related parties should be established in order to develop their abilities.

Abstract

Prevention of violations of character values is essential to note. This is an effort to prevent students from committing acts of violating the character values adopted by the community. The instilling of character values in schools has also not had a significant impact. It is proven that there are still students who violate the values and norms in society. This needs to be studied more deeply to find theoretical gaps regarding cultivating character values in schools. This study aims to find and prove the value model of character education in schools. The substance of the problem in this study is the tendency of bad student behaviour, so it requires a more complex and structured model of character values. This study uses a mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) to find ways to integrate character models in senior high school. This research was conducted at a state senior high school in Banjarmasin. There are 36 respondents (32 students and 4 teachers) in this research. The research instrument is the researcher himself as main instrument, a quantitative instrument using a questionnaire. Informant selection by purposive sampling for qualitative data, random sampling for quantitative data, and data collection via interview, observation, questionnaire, and documentation. Reducing, displaying, and verifying data are the first steps in the data analysis process. The results of research on the development of an integrated character value model have been developed at senior high school with the integration of the character value model of knowing, feeling and action in reducing the violation of character values in schools. The pedagogic implication of this research is that school leaders can use character models in an effort to prevent students from violating values and norms.

Abstract

Contextualization of history learning can be done by utilizing the environment and phenomena, namely by using historical learning resources in the environment, one of which is a museum. However, the problem is that distance and time are not possible if the teacher takes the students to the museum location. An alternative solution for this learning period is the development of digital learning resources in the form of virtual museum tours for historical subjects. Before developing these learning resources, it is necessary to conduct an introduction to the main research on the development of historical learning resources. The purpose of this study was to determine the analysis of the needs and effectiveness of the Sriwijaya museum virtual tour as a digital history learning resource on learning outcomes in class X at a state senior high school in Palembang. The research method used is the mixed method with a qualitative approach and Classroom Action Research. The results of this study indicate that 71.8% of students are interested in simulating a visit to the Sriwijaya virtual museum via smartphones and that 100% of teachers need interactive learning resources and proven effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes to get an N-gain of 0.57 in the medium category.

Abstract

This article aims to promote Adobe Connect Pro on online learning as a discussion platform in an online class. Digitalization in higher education using digital learning platforms such as adobe connect pro is currently broadly used as educational media. In the research context, Adobe Connect Pro is utilized as a discussion platform in the online class. Digital learning Platform enables providers to deliver academic programs via digital learning platforms, facilitating communication and enabling knowledge preservation, selection, and distribution. Using a qualitative study, this article investigates how Adobe Connect Pro allows teacher trainers to collaborate by offering a forum for real-time reflection and debate on student-teacher video performance, which is a natural extension of a forum. The result of the observation shows that Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro’s online discussion forum promotes students’ learning interests and accommodates a variety of learners, including those with special needs who may find it challenging to be physically present in the traditional classroom all of the time or to keep up with the other students. It promotes inclusive learning by allowing anyone to learn at their own pace and schedule and freely participate in platform discussions. In conclusion, discussion forums using Adobe Acrobat Connect Pro have immense potential to push students to learn.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out college students’ point of view on the use of Google Classroom for Emergency Remote Learning during COVID-19 outbreak. A survey research design was employed by the researcher for this research. The respondents were 209 students of Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang, Indonesia, coming from various departments, namely: nursing, midwifery, occupational health and safety, and blood bank technology. The online questionnaire consisted of 31 items was distributed to the respondents as the research instrument to collect the primary data. Once all the data were collected, then they were explained in descriptive manner, tabulated, and analyzed. The results showed that the students of Poltekkes Kemenkes Malang got positive perspectives on the use of Google Classroom in all aspects during the emergency online learning and only a very small percentage of students (below 10%) showed negative response regarding the use of Google Classroom. According to them, Google Classroom did not help them mastering the English materials and improving their achievement. Based on the findings it can be concluded that Google Classroom for ermergency remote learning gained positive perceptions from the students but there are still few constraints dealing with the use of Google Classroom for emergency remote learning, so the teachers need to evaluate the utilization of this platform to get more benefits and minimize the drawbacks, particularly for ESP context.

Abstract

Learning independently can decrease for students during the Covid-19 pandemic if students experience saturation in learning so that they are lazy to do the tasks given.  This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of case study. The research, placed in Banjar sari Surakarta, used respondents totaling 27 upper-class students from grades 4-6 and 5 interviews with teachers. Data were collected through interviews and direct observation with respondents.  Overall, the level of saturation and independence of students is at an alarming level; this is because students often experience fatigue and boredom, so they are reluctant to do learning and learning tasks independently (such as many students complain of headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, sore eyes, difficulty sleeping, no appetite, tiredness, irritated eyes, lack of rest, and uncomfortable back sitting in front of a smartphone or laptops are too long and the shift from face-to-face to online learning habits cause learners to become bored and confused, thereby reducing their absorption).

Abstract

Researchers have become increasingly interested in the notion of dialogic feedback in higher education. Despite its growing awareness of dialogic feedback, relatively little is known about how dialogic feedback is perceived through the lens of graduate students in the thesis supervision context. Hence, the purpose of this study is to explore the perceptions of graduate students regarding dialogic feedback during thesis proposal writing in a group supervision setting. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was undertaken to investigate the feedback experiences. Five TESOL graduate students were recruited to participate in semi-structured interviews and observations regarding supervision meetings. Two themes emerged from the findings. The first is the role of dialogic feedback in preventing students’ misunderstanding and cultivating students’ reflective thinking. Findings indicated that dialogic feedback could help improve students’ writing skills and thesis progress. The second is the positive and negative emotions encountered in the dialogic feedback experience. It contains feelings of low self-confidence, no fear of negative correction, and feelings of being motivated. The implication of the study brought to light the impact dialogic feedback has on thesis progress as well as providing a view of the dynamics between students' and supervisors' interactions in dialogic feedback experience.
