Abstract

AbstractLasara is a mytological object being that is often symbolized in Nias material culture such as osa-osa, sarcofagus, wooden coffin, grave, lasara on village gate, traditional house ornaments, and sword handle. This comparative study-enhanced descriptive-analytical research method is aimed at finding connection between lasara, which is a part of Nias people mythology, and its interpretation through the outlying elements to obtain a complete understanding of lasara. The analysis reveals that in a society where mythology is an innate value, lasara is understood as a symbol of a ride related with religious and social aspects. Lasara is symbolized as a boat used in the migration of Nias people through the sea, as well as a spiritual ride in its religious life.

Abstract

AbstractThe study of ancient human migration and peopling in Indonesia still raises debate until now, both from the perspective of biological anthropology, human genetics or archaeological. The debate was always open space again to do some research about that. We concentrated with samples of ancient Bali, the findings of human remains from Gilimanuk (Melaya, Jembrana) and Semawang (Sanur, Denpasar). Relatively, Bali is an island located in the centre of Indonesian Archipelago, which may represent a major pathway of human migration and distribution according to the outer arc islands. The research aimed to describe human genetic variation of the two archeological sites of ancient Bali. Based locus short tandem repeats (STR) combined DNA index system (CODIS), which CSF1PO, TH01 and TP0X, the research took a sample of six individual human ancient Bali, which includes each of the three individual from Semawang and Gilimanuk site. The process of genetic research has been done at the Institute of Tropical Disease Laboratory of Human Genetics, Airlangga University. Semawang and Gilimanuk derived from different populations based on the analysis of its CTT loci visualization. The results with reference to all possible aspects of archaeology and biological anthropology further enrich the wealth of knowledge about human migration events in Indonesia around the Neolithic period, the early times of increasingly massive mongoloid migrations to the Archipelago region. The results also further strengthen the results of previous genetic studies of Bali population. Balinese has undergone a genetic mixture of various immigrant populations since the Neolithic period.

Abstract

AbstractGolden artifacts have different varieties and decorative patterns, such as in jewellery. The presence of golden artifacts in the past is known presently from the Dutch old record in North Sumatra. At that time, the Bataknese lived an old belief of the ancestor spirits or called the megalithic tradition. The development of gold craftsmanship is seen through the golden artifacts with the typical Batak patterns influenced by the old faith as well as external decorative patterns. The proposed question is how the golden artifacts were integrated into the Bataknese culture. The study aims at collecting more knowledge of the importance of golden artifacts in Bataknese life as well as the cultural aspects reflected on those artifacts. Explorative-descriptive writing method with inductive reasoning is used to get an answer to the problem being proposed. Inductive reasoning begins at the study of data that can give a general conclusion or empirical generalization after data analysis stage process. Golden artifacts are just like pieces of art that bear a unique function in the society as well as describing such social, cultural, and religious aspects of the Bataknese in the ancient North Sumatra.

Abstract

AbstractTrought the lithic tool, the indication of cultural periodization and the development of culture could be refered to. Also, by the finding of a lithic tool in Loyang Mendale site. It can indicate time and cultural periodization which was growing at the time. Those understanding can be achieved by doing the description of the morphology and the technology on lithic equipment. In addition to the description, the comparison object can be done trought the lithic tool-making stages of processing compared with lithic tool around Loyang Mendale site that has a contemporary culture. Based on morphological and lithic technology in a tool of cultural sites hoabinh lowland and highland hoabinh culture sites produced relativaly similar morphology. In addition, the same technology as the technology during mesolithic culture that developed on the Loyang Mendale site has compatility with the hoabinh culture.
