Abstract

This paper aimed to explore the categories of speech acts used by Travis Parker as the main character of The Choice movie. Data were collected using a qualitative method and analyzed using a descriptive analysis technique. Results showed that the main character used directive and expressive speech acts. The directive ones included the acts of ordering, commanding, warning, suggestion, requesting, forbidding, and inviting. Specifically, the act of ordering something appeared once, commanding four times, giving a suggestion once, requesting twice, forbidding twice, and inviting someone once. Furthermore, the expressive function included the acts of apologizing, thanking, greeting, and compliment.  Specifically, the act of apologizing for someone appeared six times, giving thanks once, greetings three times, and giving a compliment three times.  Exploring the roles and context of speech acts in The Choice movie from a sociolinguistic perspective will contribute to English learning-teaching.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study was to describe the closest speech transfer pattern used by teachers and students, as well as the teacher's speech regarding the application of the steps of the problem based learning model at school. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The data is in the form of teacher and student dialogue. The data source used is the interaction of the narrator with the speech partner in the learning process in MTsS Ma'arif 19 Assalamah which is downloaded via Youtube. Data collection techniques in the form of recording techniques. The results showed that; first, in the learning process of teachers and students at school, there are six patterns of speech transfer from the closest speech partner, including; (1) greetings followed by greetings; (2) a call followed by an answer; (3) questions followed by answers; (4) offers followed by responses received; (5) application is followed by acceptance response; (6) praise is followed by acceptance. Second, in this study, it was found that there were actions in the form of utterances and teacher activities related to the application of the problem-based five-step learning model at school. The five steps are; (1) orientation of students to problems, (2) coordinating students in learning, (3) guiding to solve problems individually or in groups, (4) developing and presenting work, (5) analyzing and evaluating processes in problem solving. AbstrakTujuan penelitian ini yakni mendeskripsikan pola alih tutur pasangan ujaran terdekat yang digunakan guru dan siswa, serta tuturan guru terkait dengan penerapan langkah-langkah dengan model pembelajaran problem based learning di sekolah. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yakni interaksi antara penutur yakni guru dan mitra tutur yaitu siswa dalam proses pembelajaran di MTsS Ma’arif 19 Assalamah, yang di unduh melalui Youtube. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa dialog tuturan guru dan siswa di MTsS Ma’arif 19 Assalamah, terkait dengan pola alih tutur pasangan ujaran terdekat dan juga tuturan guru saat menerapkan model pembelajaran berupa problem based learning. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah, teknik simak-catat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa; pertama, dalam proses pembelajaran guru dan siswa di sekolah, terdapat adanya enam pola alih tutur pasangan ujaran terdekat, diantaranya; (1) ujaran salam diikuti salam; (2) panggilan diikuti jawaban; (3) pertanyaan diikuti jawaban; (4) penawaran diikuti tanggapan menerima; (5) permohonan diikuti tanggapan pengabulan; (6) pujian diikuti penerimaan. Kedua, pada penelitian ini ditemukan adanya tindakan berupa ujaran dan aktivitas yang dilakukan guru terkait dengan penerapan lima langkah model pembelajaran problem based learning di sekolah. Lima langkah tersebut ialah; (1) orientasi siswa pada masalah, (2) mengoordinasikan siswa dalam belajar, (3) memandu untuk memecahkan masalah secara sendiri maupun kelompok, (4) mengembangkan dan menyajikan hasil karya, (5) menganalisa dan mengevaluasi proses dalam pemecahan masalah.

Abstract

Reading is a basic process of constructing meaning in written texts, gaining information, and learning about the wide world. It makes serious problem if someone has difficulties in reading because it is of the most frequent language skill used in daily life. Reading comprehension is the skill to understand what we are reading. In teaching, the main outcome of reading strategies is students have the ability to comprehend reading materials. Reading comprehension is a challenge for students because most of them have various problems in understanding the texts, specifically in unfamiliar words and sentences correlation. This study aims to propose teachers consider that reading comprehension plays a vital role in reading. The study applied library research. Teachers should be sensitive to learn what students’ characteristics are in reading and choose the best strategy in it, build up students’ confidence, provide suitable materials and exercises, and also give more time to explore what students are reading. Further, teachers are expected to put forward comprehension and bring proper strategy to students understand the texts comprehensively. If students can improve their reading comprehension skills, then the purpose of teaching reading has been successfully achieved.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan penggunan (1) bentuk dan referensi kata nego; dan (2) fungsi penggunaan kata nego dalam forum facebook jual beli online.  Data yang dideskripsikan dalam penelitian ini adalah pada penggunaan kata nego dalam forum facebook jual beli online. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode dokumentasi. Adapun, teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis isi dengan model Milles Huberman, yakni dimulai dari pengumpulan data, reduksi data atau pengklasifikasian, analisis, hingga penarikan kesimpulan. Berdasarkan hasil temuan dan pembahasan, disimpulkan pertama penggunaan kata nego meliputi nego bensin, nego pertamax, nego sak dadine, nego sampe jadi, nego sampe deal, nego tipis, nego wajar, nego kalem, nego alus, nego ngawur, nego ukur-ukur, nego loos, nego lhas-lhes, nego kedik, dan nego sitik. Beberapa kata nego tersebut mempunyai rujukan harga benda, tujuan akhir, sifat benda, proses atau aktivitas tawar menawar, dan jumlah harga. Kedua, penggunaan kata nego oleh penutur/penjual berfungsi untuk (1) menekankan pada calon pembeli terkait harga yang akan ditawar; (2) memaksimalkan keuntungan bagi calon pembeli, (3) memaksimalkan keuntungan bagi kedua belah pihak sehingga salah satu pihak tidak mengalami kerugian. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of (1) forms and references of the word nego; and (2) the function of using the word nego in the online buying and selling facebook forum. The data described in this study is on the use of the word nego in the online buying and selling facebook forum. The data collection method used in this research is the documentation method. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique used is content analysis with the Milles Huberman model, starting from data collection, data reduction or classification, analysis, to drawing conclusions. Based on the findings and discussion, it is concluded that the first use of the word nego includes negotiating gasoline, negotiating pertamax, negotiating sak dadine, negotiating until finished, negotiating until a deal, negotiating thin, negotiating fair, negotiating calm, negotiating alus, nego alon, nego banter,  negotiating with beautifully, negotiating inconsequential, negotiating measures, nego loos, nego lhas- lhes, nego kedik, nego sitik, nego akeh sak pol e, and nego gedhen. Some of these negotiable words  have a reference to the price of the object, the final destination, the nature of the object, the process or activity of bargaining, and the amount of the price. Second, the use of the nego, forms, function, buying and selling facebook forum word nego by speakers/sellers serves to (1) emphasize on potential buyers regarding the price to be offered; (2) maximize profits for potential buyers, (3) maximize profits for both parties so that one party does not experience a loss.

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan bentuk tindak tutur direktif satgas covid-19 dalam sosialisasi penanganan pandemi, dan (2) mendeskripsikan fungsi tindak tutur direktif satgas covid-19 dalam sosialisasi penanganan pandemi pada tayangan youtube Kemenkes RI edisi penanganan pandemi bulan September. Metode penelitian yang menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data penelitian berupa tindak tutur direktif satgas covid-19. Sumber data dalam penelitian berupa media youtube kementerian kesehatan Indonesia bulan September 2021. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik SBLC (Simak Bebas Libat Cakap) yang kemudian data yang diperoleh direkam selanjutnya dilakukan mentranskip video tahap terakhir dianalisis untuk mendapatkan hasil bentuk tindak tutur direktif dan fungsi tindak tutur direktif. Data yang sudah dianalisis mendapatkan hasil yaitu bentuk-bentuk dari tindak tutur direktif berupa, (1) tindak tutur direktif perintah, (2) tindak tutur permintaan, (3) tindak tutur saran, (4) tindak tutur ajakan. Dari bentuk-bentuk tindak tutur direktif terdapat pula fungsi tindak tutur direktif berupa (1) fungsi tindak tutur perintah meliputi, memerintah, menyuruh, dan memaksa, (2) fungsi tindak tutur permintaan meliputi, meminta, mengharapkan, memohon, mengimbau, (3) fungsi tindak tutur direktif saran meliputi, nasihat, (4) fungsi tindak tutur ajakan meliputi, ajakan. Tindak tutur yang paling banyak digunakan dalam sosialisasi penanganan covid-19 ialah bentuk permintaan sedangkan tindak tutur direktif yang sedikit digunakan adalah bentuk ajakan. Adanya sosialisasi penanganan covid-19 yang diberikan, seharusnya masyarakat dapat mematuhi peraturan yang ada, guna untuk pencegahan penyebaran virus covid-19. Penangganan pandemi yang dilakukan satgas covid-19 memberikan sebuah informasi untuk mengajak masyarakat agar mematuhi protokol kesehatan. The research aims to (1) describe the speech acts of the COVID-19 task force directive in the socialization of handling the pandemic, (2) describe the speech acts of the COVID-19 task force directive in the socialization of handling the pandemic, and (3) describe the markers of the speech acts of the COVID-19 task force directive. 19 in the socialization of the handling of the pandemic on the YouTube show of the Indonesian Ministry of Health for the September edition of the pandemic handling. The research method using descriptive qualitative methods. The research data is in the form of directive speech acts of the Covid-19 task force. The data source in the study was the Indonesian Ministry of Health's YouTube media in September 2021. The data collection used the SBLC (Simak Gratis Libat Cakap) technique, then the data obtained was then transcribed the last stage of the video and analyzed to obtain the results of the directive speech act and the function of the directive speech act. The data that have been analyzed are the forms of directive speech acts in the form of, (1) command directive speech acts, (2) request speech acts, (3) suggestion speech acts, (4) invitation speech acts. From the forms of directive speech acts there are also directive speech act functions in the form of (1) command speech act functions include, command, and command (2) request speech act functions include, request, plead and appeal, (3) suggestive directive speech act function includes, advice, (4) the function of the speech act of invitation includes, invitation. The most widely used speech act in handling COVID-19 is in the form of an order, while the least used speech act is a form of invitation. With the socialization of the handling of COVID-19, the public should be able to comply with existing regulations, in order to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The handling of the pandemic carried out by the COVID-19 task force provides information to invite the public to comply with health protocols.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui unsur intrinsik komik dan representasi unsur mistik dalam webtoon ”Sarimin” karya Naga Terbang. Metode penelitian digunakan yaitu metode kualitatif dengan desain penelitian deskriptif analisis dan menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra. Naga Terbang menjadi subjek penelitian ini dan objek penelitiannya adalah karya sastra berupa webtoon berjudul “Sarimin” yang dibatasi episode 1-3 dalam webtoon kompilasi Hari Berarti (2018). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bagaimana komikus menggambarkan unsur mistik khususnya mistik magis dari segi sifatnya yaitu santet yang terkandung dalam webtoon ”Sarimin” karya Naga Terbang. Santet merupakan upaya untuk mencelakai orang lain dari jarak jauh menggunakan ilmu hitam yang berasal dari dukun atau bantuan dari makhluk supranatural. Peneliti membagi representasi unsur mistik magis tentang santet dalam beberapa bagian, meliputi; proses praktik santet, faktor penyebab terjadinya praktik santet, serta dampak dan akibat melakukan praktik santet. This study aims to find out how the intrinsic elements of comics (characterization, plot, theme and moral, picture and language) and the representation of mystical elements in the webtoon ”Sarimin” by Naga Terbang. The research method that will be used is a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis research design and uses a literary psychology approach about phenomenon of psycologia mystica. In this study, Naga Terbang is the subject of research and the object of research is a literary work in the form of the Webtoon ”Sarimin” which is limited to the title Sarimin episodes 1-3 in the compilation webtoon Hari Berarti (2018). The data collection technique used is the documentation technique. The data analysis techniques used are dara reduction, data presentation, and data verification. This study show how comic artists describe the intrinsic elements of comic and mystical elements, especially magical mystique in tems of their nature, namely witchcraft contained in the ”Sarimin” webtoon by Naga Terbang. Witchcraft is an attempt to harm other people from a distance using black magic that comes from shamans or help from suprenatural being. In this study, the author dividess the representation of magical mystical elements about witchcraft in several part, including the process of practicing witchcraft, the factors causing the practice of witchcraft, and the impact and consequences of practicing witchcraft.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan media yang tepat sebagai sarana peningkatan keterampilan menulis cerpen para siswa SMAN 2 Maja. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas, yaitu menggabungkan suatu tindakan sesungguhnya dengan langkah-langkah penelitian di kelas. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini tes dan nontes. Tes digunakan peneliti untuk mengetahui kemampuan peserta didik dalam menulis cerpen, sedangkan bentuk nontes dalam penelitian ini berupa lembar observasi, lembar wawancara, dan lembar jurnal peserta didik yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan perubahan tingkah laku siswa. Upaya peningkatan keterampilan menulis cerpen siswa kelas XI IPA SMAN 2 Maja berdasar teks lagu dengan metode latihan terbimbing menunjukkan hasil baik. Hasil ini dapat dilihat dari pengamatan penulis terhadap siswa pada tahap I dan tahap II. Pada tahap I tergambar jelas hasil pengamatan unsur-unsur intrinsik siswa dalam menulis cerpen berdasar teks lagu. Sedangkan pada tahap II tergambar jelas hasil pengamatan sikap siswa dalam menulis cerpen berdasar teks lagu. This study aims to find the right media as a means of improvement of short story writing skills of SMAN 2 Maja students. This study uses a classroom action research method, which combines an actual action with research steps in the classroom. The instrument used to collect data in this study was a test and a non-test. The test was used by researchers to determine the ability of students to write short stories, while the non-test forms in this study were in the form of observation sheets, interview sheets, and student journal sheets which were used to reveal changes in student behavior. Efforts to improve the short story writing skills of class XI IPA SMAN 2 Maja students based on song texts with the guided practice method showed good results. These results can be seen from the author's observations of students in stage I and stage II. The results of the first phase of the research include the intrinsic elements of short stories compiled by class XI IPA SMAN 2 Maja students based on the text of the song, namely the theme and message, plot/ plot, background/ setting, characters and characterizations, point of view, language style, cohesiveness.In stage I, it is clear that the results of observing students' intrinsic elements in writing short stories based on song texts are clearly illustrated. While in stage II, it is clear that the results of observing students' attitudes in writing short stories based on song texts are clearly illustrated. The results showed that the students felt happy and understood when writing short stories based on song texts so that the writings were interesting.

Abstract

Novel merupakan salah satu karya sastra yang mengisahkan berbagai permasalahan kehidupan sosial kemanusiaan. Seperti novel Damar Kambang karya Muna Masyari yang mengangkat permasalahan gender dalam masyarakat Karang Penang. Para tokoh dalam cerita mengalami berbagai ketidakadilan yang akan dijelaskan dalam penelitian ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan analisis bentuk ketidakadilan gender yang terdapat dalam novel Damar Kambang karya Muna Masyari. Ketidakadilan gender merupakan persoalan yang merugikan salah satu pihak antara perempuan dan laki-laki. Novel Damar Kambang karya Muna Masyari bertema ketidakadilan gender dengan mengangkat isu pernikahan dini yang mengharuskan perempuan menerima segala hal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang menjawab permasalahan dengan cara mengumpulkan data dan menyusun laporan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah novel Damar Kambang karya Muna Masyari. Sedangkan objek penelitian ini adalah keseluruhan data yang terdapat dalam novel Damar Kambang karya Muna Masyari. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini dimulai dengan studi kepustakaan serta teknik baca dan catat. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan mereduksi data, penyajian data, dan verifikasi. Tahap analisis data dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data berupa kata-kata, kalimat, dan wacana yang terdapat dalam novel. Mengklasifikasikan data terkait bentuk ketidakadilan gender seperti marginalisasi, subordinasi, stereotype, kekerasan, dan beban kerja. Data yang telah diklasifikasi kemudian dianalisis dan disajikan berupa penjelasan deskripsi. Novel is a literary work that tells various problems of human social life. Such as the novel damar Kambang by Muna Masyari which raises the issue of gender in Karang Penang. The characters in the story experience various injustices which will be explained in this study. This study aims to describe the analysis of gender injustice contained in the novel Damar Kambang by Muna Masyari. Gender injustice is a problem that harms one party between women and men. Muna Masyari's Damar Kambang novel has the theme of gender injustice by raising the issue of early marriage which requires women to accept everything. This study uses a qualitative approach and a qualitative descriptive method that answers the problem by collecting data and compiling reports. The subject of this research is the novel Damar Kambang by Muna Masyari. While the object of this research is the entire data in the novel Damar Kambang by Muna Masyari. The data collection technique used in this study began with a literature study and reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques were carried out by reducing data, presenting data, and verifying. The data analysis stage was carried out by collecting data in the form of words, sentences, and discourses contained in the novel. Classify data related to forms of gender injustice such as marginalization, subordination, stereotypes, violence, and workload. The data that has been classified is then analyzed and presented in the form of an explanation description. The results of this study found that marginaization occurred not only because impoverishment but also due to educational inequality. Subordination occur because the role of women in the household isn’t more important than the role of men. Stereotypes occur because differences of principles. Violence that injures the phisically and mentally. The workload occur to makeup artist who do a double workload.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui kata sifat dan frase dalam repertoar perluasan makna berita sportaiment. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode simak. Hal tersebut karena data informasi pada penelitian ini secara langsung bersumber dari hasil penyimakan (wacana berita utama Sportainment koran Jawa Pos ). Dari metode tersebut, teknik yang digunakan adalah teknik baca-catat. Teknik baca dilakukan dengan cara membaca secara cermat dan teliti semua hal yang mempunyai ciri sebagai bentuk perluasan makna, selanjutnya kegiatan pencatatan. Bentuk perluasan makna yang terdapat pada wacana berita utama Sportainment koran Jawa Pos  berupa kata sifat dan frase. Penggolongan bentuk perluasan makna tersebut didasarkan pada perluasan makna yang terkandung dalam kata yang ditemukan pada data. Bentuk perluasan makna yang ditemukan pada wacana berita utama Sportainment koran Jawa Pos  cukup banyak, hal ini menandakan perluasannya bersifat objektif. This study aims to determine the adjectives and phrases in the repertoire of expanding the meaning of sports news. The method used in this research is the referential method. This is because the information data in this research is directly sourced from the results of listening (the main news discourse on the Jawa Pos newspaper Sportainment). From this method, the technique used is the reading-note technique. Reading technique is done by reading carefully and thoroughly all things that have characteristics as a form of expansion of meaning, then recording activities. The form of expansion of meaning in the form of words was found in many different word classes, namely nouns (nouns) found a total of 121 data, verbs (verbs) found a total of 139 data, and adjectives (adjectives) found a total of 64 data, while the form of meaning expansion in the form of phrases, namely noun phrases found a total of 38 data, work phrases found a total of 34 data, and adjective phrases found a total of 9 data. Taste value includes 142 data of pejorative assessment and 263 data of ameliorative assessment. The assessment depends on each language community concerned. The function of expanding meaning as a metaphor designation in this study found as many as 359 data, while the function of expanding meaning as indicating metonymy in this study found as many as 11 data, and the function of expansion of meaning as an ellipsis designation in this study found as many as 35 data.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah 1) menjelaskan pengaruh model think pair share dan mind mapping terhadap pembelajaran menulis eksposisi ditinjau dari kemandirian belajar siswa, 2) Mengetahui perbedaan pengaruh model think pair share dan mind mapping dalam pembelajaran menulis karangan eksposisi ditinjau dari kemandirian belajar siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian eksperimen dengan desain faktorial. Pengumpulan data melalui tes, observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil analisis uji hipotesis disajikan sebagai berikut: 1) Hipotesis pertama menunjukkan bahwa nilai T-hitung keterampilan menulis eksposisi siswa adalah 2,122 dan tingkat signifikansi 0,039 (0,05) dan kemandirian belajar siswa adalah 2,068 dan Tingkat signifikansi 0,044 (0,05).; 2) Hipotesis kedua menunjukkan nilai T-hitung keterampilan menulis eksposisi sebesar 2,755 dan taraf signifikansi 0,036 (0,05) serta nilai t hitung kemandirian belajar siswa sebesar 2,256 dan taraf signifikansi 0,029 (0,05) .; 3) Hipotesis ketiga menunjukkan nilai sebesar 2,122 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,039 (0,05) terhadap keterampilan menulis eksposisi dan hasil belajar siswa. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa adanya Pengaruh model think pair share dan mind mapping terhadap keterampilan menulis eksposisi ditinjau dari kemandirian belajar siswa. The objectives of this study are 1) to explain the influence of the think pair share and mind mapping model on learning to write exposition in terms of student learning independence, 2) Knowing the difference in the influence of the think pair share model  and mind mapping in learning to write exposition essays in terms of student learning independence. This research is a type of experimental factorial design research. Data collection through tests, observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the hypothesis test analysis are presented as follows: 1) The first hypothesis shows that the T-count  value on students' exposition writing skills is 2.122 and the significance level is 0.039 (0.05) and the student learning independence is 2.068 and  The significance level of 0.044 (0.05).;  2) The second hypothesis shows that the T-count value of exposition writing skills is 2.755 and a significance level of 0.036 (0.05) and the Traume value of student learning independence is 2.256 and a significance level of 0.029 (0,  05).; 3) The third hypothesis shows that value of 2.122 with a significance level of 0.039 (0.05) on the exposition writing skills and the results of the students'   learning independence testing the tcount value was 2.127 with a significance level of 0.038 (0.05) indicating that there was a significant difference in the exposition writing skills and student learning independence with the think pair share learning model compared to mind mapping learning model so that the first hypothesis is accepted
