Abstract

This case study evaluates the development of a formal collective leadership approach by the All Blacks (New Zealand national men rugby team) management. The All Blacks have an astonishing 75% winning record in test matches over a hundred year period. This winning ethos is part of their organizational culture, which has been developed, nurtured and sustained since the inception of the first national team in 1903 (Palenski, 2003; Tobin, 2005). In this qualitative research study, primary data was obtained through the analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews with past and present All Black captains and coaches (over a period of 60 years from 1950-2010). Stories which are narratives based on true events provide a rich description, which enhances the credibility and transferability of the findings. A key finding is the strong senior collective leadership that has been ever present. Originally led by senior players informally from the back seat of the bus this internal leadership has been formalised by the most recent coaching team and has proved to be very effective with regards to maintaining a winning culture in an ever-changing organizational and socio-cultural environment. The learning culture and learning leadership demonstrated within the All Blacks collective leadership model instils a commitment to total honesty in self and team evaluation and reflection. It is anticipated that these findings will be transferable to other business and team sport contexts and assist in organizational development.

Abstract

New Zealand Human Resource Development practitioners interviewed in earlier research indicates that building trust is necessary if training efforts in the area of Emotional Intelligence are to be successful. Yet, trust is often not defined clearly by those working in the field of HRD.  To establish a definition of trust that provides HRD practitioners with direction in the design of training programs, a large group conversation utilizing the World Caf process was undertaken, after which EI training practitioners wrote reflections on the nature of trust.  Experienced EI Trainers tended to define trust in terms of the outcome produced in training, which was the readiness of participants to talk.  Defining trust in this way has the advantage of involving a low level of inference.  Trainers also identified actions within their control that could stimulate greater readiness amongst training participants about their experiences to trainers and other learners. The aim of the article is to provide a practice-based definition of trust that can inform HRD practitioners working in the field of Emotional Intelligence.

Abstract

Businesses faces with important and rapid changes. This rapid change in the business environment forces the organizations to change their operations and structures. Adopting these changes fast and contionus renewal of both employees and organizations help organizations reach the set goals and survive in the competitive market. To be accomplished in competition, companies need well trained and well developed employees from front employees to the top level managers in the executive suite. Moreover, training process must gain continuity. Especially, in Pharmaceutical Industry, due to the fast and rapid changes and improvements concerning the regulations and procedures of Ministery of Health, guidelines such as GMP (Good Manufacturing Practises), GLP (Good Laboratory Practises), GDP (Good Documentation Practises) etc. employees who are working should be trained and updated about the current knowledge to increase the efficiency in the organization. Vice versa, organizations can not raise their competition power in order to exist and develop themselves. To sum up, globalization, fast changes in regulations and procedures and also technological shifts lead to changes even in organizations. In order to cope with these changes, companies need to train their employees. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of training on employee efficiency. Research is carried out with 74 employees from a pharmaceutical company in Istanbul, Turkey. The results of the study support the hypotheses. There a significant difference between white collar and blue collar employees on the idea of efficiency of training in the area of career development, area of productivity, professional growth and customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Imitation is actually a part of innovation strategy, the learning strategies to enter the market. It can be a stepping stone for SME in developing countries to innovate and to create a knowledge base to lower the innovation cost.This study aims to reveal and analyze the innovation strategy learning process by owners of leather small industries processing through experience in running  the imitation strategy. This research applies interpretive paradigm, phenomenological research design and involved five informants.The research results are as follow: the learning experience to use imitation strategy which covers stages of imitation, research, development and  creation. This learning process is the result of interaction between personal and behavior factors, as well as the enabler and barriers. The owners of leather small industries which leave the imitation strategy and switch to innovation strategy are craftsmen who have an entrepreneurial spirit. they are able to balance entrepreneurial and business aspects.

Abstract

This paper provides a review of current practice in relation to individual performance management systems and process within the traditional business environment. There is a consensus that the role of the individual is central to the overall performance of any organization and how individual performances are managed and evaluated can have significant impacts on overall organizational success. Many organizations employ the traditional performance appraisal in order to monitor and assess individual employee performances. However, new approaches, such as 360-degree feedback have also become commonplace within the business environment. An analysis of each approach including benefits and challenges associated with each process is presented within this paper.

Abstract

Resources and operational environment of a company are known to have important role in its competitive strategic formulation. These three variables also found influencing business performance. However, little is known about the influence of an understanding toward local culture and rules where a company operated on competitive strategic formulation and the impact on business performance. This research is aimed to find out about the influence of an understanding and implementation of Tri Hita Karana as one of intangible strategic resources and the influence of local rules either in form of regional regulation or customary rules on competitive strategic formulation of real estate company operated in Indonesia, which is in Bali Province. In order to harmonize company with its environment through three dimensions based on Hindu philosophy (parahyangan as the manifestation of God dimension, pawongan as the manifestation of humanity dimension and palemahan as the manifestation of natural environment dimension), it is proven that understanding and implementation of Tri Hita Kirana have the highest influence from seven strategic resources formulation of a company. In addition, local rules also proven to significantly influence environmental dynamic faced by real estate companies operated in Bali. The research verified that resources owned by and environmental dynamics of a company have significant influence on competitive strategic that further influence business performance measured using Balance Score Card method.

Abstract

This paper aims to propose a strategic framework for Green Accounting and Reporting (GAR) adoption in Malaysia. Green accounting translates how the management practice and accountable on the effects and uses of the environment. The accountability is reflected through the reporting function which naturally demands for transparency to the stakeholders. Malaysia has a comprehensive regulatory framework for green-related management and practice but unfortunately this has not reflected in the context of local environmental matters where degradation is a persistent problem. A strategic framework is necessary to accompany the governments blue-prints and facilitate companies to adopt GAR. Drawing from the literature, the strategy is based on the firms responsibilities and the impact it has to the industry, country and society at large, at least for two generations.

Abstract

Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) is an electronic tool for transactions in Indonesia that uses a standardized national QR code. QRIS helps the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises and facilitates domestic payment transactions. It also encourages financial inclusion. In this study, the UTAUT technique is used to describe the factors that can influence the tendency to use certain technologies. This study uses quantitative research methods, and the main data collection tool is a questionnaire. In this study, the sample consists of 110 people who work in Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and use the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) digital transaction tool. This study was conducted using structural equation modeling (SEM) along with the partial least squares (PLS) method. The results showed that performance expectations, business expectations, social influence, and supportive conditions significantly influenced the decision or desire of MSME players to use QRIS as a digital payment tool. In terms of using QRIS, only the variables of social influence and enabling conditions affect the behavior of MSME players. However, user intentions may influence the relationship between performance expectations, effort expectations, social influence, and enabling variables that influence usage behavior.

Abstract

This research examines the effect of work-family enrichment on work engagement through self-efficacy and job satisfaction as mediating variables among women entrepreneurs in Bali. Data was collected through questionnaires distributed to women entrepreneurs in Bali. The research sample consisted of women entrepreneurs in Bali, 183 people using the snowball sampling technique. The results of data analysis using PLS show that there is a positive influence of work-family enrichment on self-efficacy, job satisfaction, and work engagement. In addition, self-efficacy and job satisfaction have also been proven to be significant mediators in the relationship between work-family enrichment and work engagement. If women entrepreneurs feel that positive experiences at work enrich their family life, they will believe in their ability to complete tasks and increase their satisfaction in their work, leading them to be more engaged in the organization. The managerial implication of these findings is the importance of women entrepreneurs in creating a work environment that supports a balance between work and family life, which can increase their self-efficacy, job satisfaction, and work engagement. This research contributes to the literature on work-family enrichment and work engagement, especially in the context of women entrepreneurs in Bali.
