Abstract

Teachers’ professional identity is created in the dynamic process of interpersonal interaction. This research aims to investigate how teachers negotiate their interpersonal role identities across physical and digital student-teacher interactions. By employing a descriptive qualitative design, this research used the ethnographic method. An interview guide was designed to seek an in-depth understanding of this phenomenon by gaining insights from ten high school teachers from Metro Manila. After collecting the data, an inductive approach is used to analyse the data. The research reveals that the teachers’ interpersonal identity standards and their appraisal of their interaction with their students on Facebook and their network logic align and are congruent with one another. The teachers’ interaction with their students online and offline is always guided by their perceived roles and responsibilities and their limitations and boundaries as teachers.

Abstract

The study examined journalism practices covering Coronavirus disease (Covid-19), particularly online journalism in Solo, one of the metropolitan cities in Central Java Province of Indonesia. Solo is the first city in Indonesia to declare an extraordinary event due to the Covid-19 pandemic after coronavirus-linked deaths were reported. The notion of a dilemmatic situation, mainly in content selection, is the central perspective in this research. This research referred to news value theory and agenda-setting that used a qualitative approach method. The data were obtained through interviews with 20 journalists of online media in Solo. We also included non-participatory observation in the Solopos.com newsroom. The study suggests that, to some extent, journalists face a dilemma in choosing content to present news that concerns the public interest during the Covid-19 pandemic. The dilemma included determining interesting issues, attracting the public interest, and becoming meaningful to the readers, but not to endanger the personal safety and maintain professional sustainability because there is no news worthy of a life.

Abstract

This paper reviews the position of stand up comic from the perspective of the culture industry by Theodor Adorno. In Adorno's view, the culture industry is always commercially oriented and therefore works or products that carry the character of artistic or cultural values will not be born because these products exist only to respond to market tastes formed by the capitalists. In this case, the artists will not be able to survive if they stick to idealism. With a qualitative approach and critical paradigm, the author takes stand up comic Pandji Pragiwaksono as a case study. The results of the analysis show that Pandji's figure as comic defeats Adorno's criticism. Pandji proves that art in culture industry is able to be an enlightening product, which do not just fulfill market tastes and follow homogeneous standards that set by capitalists. Especially on Pandji's works, it also has messages that can encourage people to think critically. Pandji also proved that he can make a good living by working as comic.

Abstract

Programmatic Advertising (PA) is changing the way advertisers and publishers interact in the industrial 4.0. PA collects cookies from site pengguna to help advertisers identify the required audience. In PA, an important question is regarding the level of penetration and the reasons for using PA, especially in Indonesia. PA is different from traditional buying and selling advertising, which must bring together sellers and buyers face to face. Qualitative research is used in studying the situation based on the point of perspective of PA users with relevant backgrounds. Data collection techniques with interview observation using open coding, axial, and selective. Then, they used thematic and narrative data analysis with data confirmation through triangulation techniques in order to see data from various perspectives. As a result, in the Indonesian context, PA is growing well, it's just that it is still constrained by a complex implementation process (requires knowledge, insights, and networks).
