Abstract

Copper pollution in the East Coast of Surabaya is one of the serious cases of heavy metal pollution in Indonesia. Pollution at this location has been proven to result in fish deaths and brain damage of local residents because they consume too much copper-contaminated fish. Copper bioremediation using indigen bacteria isolated from polluted environments is a promising solution to overcome copper pollution problems. Bacteria that commonly live in polluted environments can be isolated and used as copper bioremediation agents. This study aims to do: 1) isolation and characterization of copper resistant bacteria from the East Coast of Surabaya, 2) resistance testing of bacterial isolates, and 3) copper accumulation and biosorbtion tests of bacterial isolates. The bacterial isolates were characterized by the morphology of the colonies and their cells based on Gram staining. Resistance testing is done by determining Minimum Inhibitory Concentration/MIC. The accumulation test is carried out by separating the cell and growth medium, then each of them is distructed using HNO3. The results of isolation and characterization obtained six isolates of copper-resistant bacteria, namely PmbC1, PmbC2, PmbC3, PmbC4, PmbC5, and PmbC6 with MIC = 3 mM - 5mM CuSO4. PmbC4 isolate is the most resistant bacteria with the MIC of 5 mM and is capable of accumulating copper of 6.25 mg per gram of cell dry weight and biosorbtion of 92.17%.

Abstract

Research the effect of andaliman leaf extract on mice ovaries, volume test material using oral gavage needles as much 0.1 ml / 10 g bb 4 days before and after estrus stage and using RAL non-factorial method consisting of control and treatment group. Treatment consisted of factor test material with dose 2500, 5000, 10000, 20000, 40000 ppm. Chemical content of andaliman leaf extract shown from results study are alkaloids, steroids and saponins. Giving treatment of andaliman leaf extract for 9 days on histological data in the number primary, secondary, De Graff, and atretic follicles experienced fluctuating changes, but statistically did not show a significant difference between treatment and control mice groups, while different results were significantly shown in the number of corpus luteum. Parameters diameter of primary follicles, De Graff, and corpus luteum tended to experience changes that fluctuated, but statistically did not show the difference between the treatment and control mice groups, while the diameter of secondary and atretic follicles showed significantly different results. From the results study, administration of andaliman leaf extract affects histological mice ovaries, because it affects oogenesis and ovulation, but fluctuates, possibly due to crude extract, which has not isolated chemical content.

Abstract

The Deli river is the Pioritas I River Basin in North Sumatra, the level of community activity in the Deli river border is high such as settlements, offices, schools and industries, the community has the potential to produce a lot of solid waste in the estuary to the river body so as to make the river polluted, parameters pollution is heavy metal. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Pb content in the Deli River using the AAS tool, from the analysis of the deli river pollution level, the Lead Analysis Result (Pb) obtained from upstream to downstream is an average value of 0.003 ppm, this means that lead pollution (Pb) in the river Deli is still relatively low or has not been polluted by lead heavy metals (Pb) because according to Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001 concerning Water Quality Management and quality pollution control of 0.03 ppm standard water.

Abstract

The use of antimicrobial such as antibiotics  against infectious diseases with no control is quite common in Indonesia. This leads to increase morbidity and incidence of drug resistance. Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria, particularly infects the skin. The resistance it difficult to determine which antimicrobials were suitable for therapy. Manukan leaves have an active substance Rhinacanthin can be used as an anti-bacterial. The aim of this study was to determine the inhibition of ethanol extract of manukan leaves (Rhinacanthus nasutus (L) Kurz) against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) in vitro with the extract concentration of 15,  30, and 60% as a control. This study was a true experiment through the in vitro test with the Kirby Bauer method. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone was at an extract concentration of 15, 30, and 60% are 9.97 mm, 10.95mm, and 13.18 mm. The Kruskal-Wallis test results showed a significant difference between the four treatment groups (p= 0.010). The Mann-Whitney test showed significant differences in the inhibition zone between control and  treatment at 15, 30 and 60% (p= 0.037). In conclusion leave ethanol extract of manukan has antimicrobial activitiy in inhibiting staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

Tumbuhan berbunga merupakan tumbuhan yang memiliki ciri khas berupa bunga (sering juga disebut sebagai Angiospermae/Magnoliophyta). Tumbuhan berbunga merupakan kelompok tumbuhan yang sukses menyebar luas di dunia, diperkirakan mencapai 250.000 jenis. Salah satu penyebaran tumbuhan berbunga yang sukses di dunia, berada di kawasan Malesia, terbukti 70% tumbuhan endemik ada di kawasan ini. Keanekaragaman tumbuhan berbunga di kawasan Malesia tergolong tinggi, karena di pengaruhi oleh flora Asia dan Australia, seperti: Orchidaceae, Rubiaceae, Lauraceae, Euphorbiaceae, Dipterocarpaceae, Myrtaceae, Moraceae, dan Ericaceae.

Abstract

Shallot variety of Bima Brebes is a shallot variety that is widely cultivated by farmers in Indonesia because it is easy to grow and adapt to the local environment. However, in reality many farmers use the previous harvest for the next planting seed so that the yields obtained will be of poor quality. This study aims to determine the effect of giving nitrogen through corona incandescent plasma discharge and goat fertilizer on the growth of shallots so that it can improve the quality of onion seedlings. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a factorial pattern using a corona incandescent plasma discharge factor and goat manure. The results showed an interaction between the two factors that can be seen from the plant height parameters which showed significant results in the treatment of plant seeds that were plasma radiation for 30 minutes and the planting media were given goat manure 65 g. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the administration of corona incandescent plasma discharge and goat manure on the cultivation of shallots varieties of Bima Brebes was able to accelerate the time of sprouting by 200.3% and increase the growth of onion plants.

Abstract

Clean water needs one of which can be obtained through a dug well. As for things that need to be considered in the use of dug wells that meet health requirements. This is intended to minimize the occurrence of well water contamination caused by contaminants that exist around the dug well. The purpose of conducting this research was to analyze the influence caused by the dintance of the cattle pen with the presence of total Coliform bacteria in the dug wells of Klambir Village. This study used an observational analytic method with a cross sectional design. The study were used 35 samples and it was determined by simple random sampling. The results obtained from the research that from 35 samples examined entirely contain Coliform. In detail can be explained that as much as 22 wells (62.9%) had total coliforms> 50/100 ml and 13 wells (37.1%) had total coliforms ? 50/100 ml of water. The results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed that there was an effect of enclosure distance on total coliform in dug well water.

Abstract

Shallots and onions are one of the leading vegetable commodities consumed by the public. The supply of these two onion varieties in Indonesia is not available at all times because is done seasonally. Therefore it is necessary to increase the cultivation, one of which is through the addition of nitrogen through plasma technology. This study to determine the effect of giving plasma nitrogen through plasma technology to the growth of bima onion brebes and grano onions. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments with 5 replications. Plasma radiation is carried out on onion seeds and onions with a radiation interval of 15 and 30 minutes. The growth parameters observed were shoot growth time, growth percentage, root length, number of roots, plant height, number of shoots, and nitrogen content. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by DMRT Test at 95% confidence level. The results showed that the onion irradiated by plasma for 15 minutes could increase growth and total nitrogen content, while in onions, the highest yield was precisely in the control treatment (0 minute radiation). In onions, plasma administration can inhibit growth and total nitrogen content 0,31%, but can increase the number of roots.

Abstract

The hand becomes one of the body parts that are easily exposed to microorganisms because of their high mobility. Hand sanitizer is a liquid that can be used to kill microbes. Hands become one of the body parts that are easily exposed to microorganisms because of their high mobility. Hand sanitizer is a liquid that can be used to kill microorganisms. Most hand sanitizers contain alcohol and triclosan, which can be bad for the skin if used in excessive amounts. It is necessary to substitute alcohol and triclosan as an antibacterial, one of which is star anise (Illicium verum Hook.f). Star anise contains flavonoids and tannins, which can function as antibacterial and safe for health.  The objective of this study was to make a hand sanitizer formulation from star anise and test its antibacterial strength. The method used was a laboratory experiment with stages; Star anise extraction and antibacterial test. The results of the hand sanitizer formulation of the biggest star anise extract in inhibiting are 10% star anise extract. Inhibitory zone of 10% star anise extract at 6.2 ± 0.76 mm and included in the medium category.

Abstract

Spodoptera exigua is a migrant pest that attacks onions simultaneously in groups. The utilization of papaya leaves to control pests due to papaya leaves have toxic compounds that can kill pests. This study aims to measure the ability of papaya leaves to control S. exigua larvae. This research was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) experimental method with two treatment factors. The first factor was papaya leaf concentration (0 g / l, 30 g / l, 70 g / l, 100 g / l, 120 g / l), and the second factor is a mixture of kerosene. The treatment was repeated three times. The study was conducted at the Agrotechnology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty Muhammadiyah University, South Tapanuli. The results showed that papaya leaves could kill S. exigua larvae. The highest mortality of S. exigua worms There were statistically significant non-treatments among treatments.
