Abstract

Objective: This study was to investigate the increase of TIMP-1 Gingival Clavicular Fluid after application of rosella flower extract gel on gingiva as the standard treatment of gingivitis after insertion of acrylic crown.Material and Methods: This research Type is pure experimental research using randomized design on pre- and post-t-test with control group (The randomized pretest-posttest control group design). Clinical test (in vivo test) were done to value the effect gel therapeutic containing Rosella extract as therapy on standards gingivitis treatment in patients with artificial crownResults: Antimicrobial test of Rosella flower extract on P. gingivalis and S. Sanguis bacteria showed that antimicrobial effectiveness of Rosella flower extract was found at concentration of 10%.Conclusion: 10% Rosella gel extracts can be used asone alternative ingredients in standard gingival inflammation treatment due to artificial acrylic crown using

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this literature review is to highlights the role and mechanisms of propolis at the molecular level in relief toothache caused by dental pulp inflammation.Methods: This review complied data from our study as well as from other researchers, focusing on molecular mechanism of inflammation, dental pain mechanism caused by inflammation and the role of propolis on inflammatory process.Results: Both in vitro and in vivo or even clinical research revealed thatpropolis has anti-inflammatory. Propolis could suppresses cyclooxygenase(COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes during inflammation. COX-2 is mainly inhibited by flavonoid which suppresses prostaglandin endoperoxide synthase at high concentration depending on the hydrophilicity and structure whereas LOX is mainly inhibited by quercetin component of propolis. The major component of propolis is the caffeic acid (3.4-dihydroxycinnamic acid) phenethyl ester (CAPE). It has anti-inflammatory by inhibits LOX and COX enzymes that are involved in the AA metabolism pathways.Conclusion: It could be that propolis effective to relief toothache (odontalgia).

Abstract

Objectives : To analyze genotoxic and sitotoxic indicators of buccal epithelial cells by measuring the number of cells contain micronucleus, pycnosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis and to determine the change in oxidative stress of  oral mucosa cells using salivary MDA levels between smokers and nonsmokers before and after exposure to intraoral radiographs during endodontic treatment.Material and Methods : This research was an analytic observation research with cross-sectional design. The sample was divided into smokers (n = 5) and non-smokers group (n = 5). The buccal epithelial cells was taken with cytobrush and unstimulated saliva in each group were taken by the draining method shortly before intraoral radiography, 10±2 days after first  day exposure, 10±2 days after second day exposure. The cells were stained using Papanicolau (PAP) kit and observed by pathologist. Genotoxic and cytotoxic indicator measured by counted the number of cells contain mironucleus, pyknosis, karyorrhexis and karyolysis under light microscope with 400X magnification according to the Tolbert criteria in 1000 cells. While oxidative stress of cell measured by salivary MDA with Thiobarbitoric Acid (TBA) assay.Result : The number of micronucleus, pyknosis, karyorrhexis, karyolysis in buccal epithelial cells and salivary MDA levels in smokers was higher than non-smokers (p<0,05). There were no significant differences in genotoxic and cytotoxic indicators and salivary MDA levels before and after the last exposure in smokers and non-smokers (p>0,05).Conclusion : The results of this study indicate that the use of intraoral radiographs is within safe limits despite repeated exposure after several days.

Abstract

Objective: Analyzing viability of PBMC and salivary leukocytes  by steeping green coffee and black coffee seeds from Robusta coffee after induced with S. mutans.Material and Methods: Blood and saliva of healthy people added with histopaque centrifugation and suspended in RPMI 1640. The cells were placed in 24-well microtiter plate, treated according to group. The research groups: control: induced by S. mutans, black coffee (2.5%, 5%, 10%), Green coffee (2.5%, 5%, 10%). All coffee groups, both PBMC and saliva groups were induced by S. mutans. Viability was stainted with Tripan Blue. Cells were counted under an inverted microscope with magnification 400 times from an average of 5 fields of view. The data obtained were ANOVA followed by LSD test.Results. ANOVA and LSD analysis showed significant differences (0.01<p). The higher of concentration of Robusta coffee, the more cells that live. On the other hand, Green coffee increased the viability of PBMC and salivary leucocytes more than black coffee. Suspected, because antioxidant of the green coffee that more higher than black coffee, so it is better able to protect cells.Conclusion. Steeping Green and black coffee increase viability of PBMC and leucocytes which is induced by S. mutans.

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was examine theeffectivenessof proanthocyanidins cacaopods (Theobroma cacao L) extract on increasing socketepithelialthicknessposttooth extractionin Wistar Rats. Proanthocyanidins has benefis as antiinflammation, antioxidant and antibacteria agent. Post-extraction wound can cause complication, which can make long the healing process. This is where anti-inflammatory is needed to prevent infection, so that it can avoid bacterial contamination and can shorten the inflammatory process. Material and Methods:These study was an experimental laboratory research on thickness of socket epithelium of Wistar rats given proanthocyanidins cacao pod extract post extraction. A total of 24 male Wistar rats was divided into 3 group; which was treated with 100 mg/ml proanthocyanidins cocoa pod extract as treatment group, distilled placebo gel as negative control group and alvogyl as positive control group. On day 7 and day 14 the sampel was sacrified and tissue processing was made. The gingival epithelial thickness was determined by software image raster on light microscopy. Results:Analysisof One way Anova showed there was a significant difference0.001 between groups. The epithelium oftreatment group, was thicker than the control group significantly.Conclusion:Proanthocyanidins cocoa pods (Theobroma cacao L)  extract effectiveincreasing the thickness of socket epithelium postextraction in Wistar rats.

Abstract

Objective: This paper aimed to report the inferior alveolar nerve preservation in cases of monostotic fibrous dysplasia performed by hemimandibulectomy.Methods: A 11-year-old boy was referred to Dr. Sardjito General Hospital with the complaint of having a lump at the lower back of the left jaw. Past medical history revealed that the patient fell and knocked a stone on the left jaw, at 8 years old. The patient was biopsied and diagnosed with monostotic fibrous dysplasia. From the result of the investigations conducted, the lesion had involved the left coronoid and condyle processes.Results: The treatment performed for this case were hemimandibulectomy and reconstruction with installation of bridging plates to remove lesions, restore masticatory function and facial esthetics. Postoperative evaluation showed shape and jaw function was restored with no complaint of paresthesia.Conclusion: Inferior alveolar nerve preservation was performed to minimize the symptoms of paresthesia as the patient was still young, the lesion was benign and had a low recurrence rate if it was taken cleanly.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of cats tail leaves extract (Acalypha hispida Burm. F.) on wound healing ofWistar male rat mucosa (Rattus norvegicus) as the result of this experimental which obtained later can be used as a reference in dentistry to develop cats tail leaves as an alternative medicine in traumatic ulcer treatment..Material and Methods: This is an experimental research with post-test only control group design.The experimental subject were 24 Wistar male rat divided into four treatment groups, including a 50% A. hispida leaves group, a 75% A. hispida leaves group, a 100% A. hispida leaves group, and povidone iodine control group. All rat in every group were given the treatment and the decrease of wound diameter were measured for 8 days then the data were processed using SPSS program. Results:The average of traumatic wound diameter on 8th day is 0.33±0.41 mm for 50% A. hispida leaves group, 0.50±0.45 mm for 75% A. hispida leaves group, 0.25±0.42 mm for 100% A. hispida leaves group, and 1.17±0.61 mm for control group. Based on Friedman test and Wilcoxon test, the result shows significant difference on wound diameter change in every treatment group. Conclusion: Cats tail leaves extract (acalypha hispida burm. F.) with concentration of 50%, 75%, and 100% have the effect of wound healing on traumatic injury of white rat oral mucosa (rattus novergicus) but there is no significant difference in effectivenessbetween every concentration.

Abstract

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the potential for topical administration of Eleutherine palmifolia (l.) merr extract gel in the healing proccess of wound with osteitis alveolar as a complication after tooth extraction in Sprague dawley mice by observing fibroblast cell area, collagen density, and amount of osteogenesis.Material and Methods: This study used a true experimental research method conducted on Sprague Dawley mice. Sample were divided into 3 groups, namely K1 (osteitis alveolar was not given any treatment), K2 (osteitis alveolar mice were given iodoform paste application every 3 days), and K3 (osteitis alveolar mice were given application of the extract gel Eleutherine palmifolia (l.) merr topically). On day 3, 5 and 10 necropsy was done and the tooth sockets in the form of soft tissue together with hard tissue was taken, then preparations were made and stained with masson trichrome to examined fibroblasts, collagen and osteogenesis.Results: Topical application of the extract gel Eleutherine palmifolia (l.) merr showed the mean value of fibroblasts area and collagen density and the amount of osteogenesis were comparable to iodoform paste in alveolar osteitis healing.Conclusion: this study is that the application of Eleutherine Palmifolia (l) merr extract gel has almost the same effectiveness as iodoform paste

Abstract

Objective: Of this study was to determine the effect of color differences in elastomeric ligatures on the adhesion of streptococcus mutans in salivary fluidMaterial and Methods: Type of research used was laboratory experimental with cross sectional study, using elastomeric ligatures 10 pieces of orthodontic elastomeric ligatures dark clear fruits. The samples were then divided into 2 groups. Each group of samples was each immersed in 100 cc of artificial saliva pH 4 which had been given each cc of streptococcus mutans and cultured in the media to see the number of colonies attached to elastomeric ligatures. The results of calculating the number of colonies were then analyzed using the SPSS version 24 program and using the Independent t test with a significant value of 0.05.Results: The results showed that there are significant differences between the ligatures elastomeric orthodontic dark and elastomeric ligatures clear.Conclusion: Elastomeric ligatures darker color have more adhesion to streptococcus mutans when compared to adhesion streptococcus mutans to elastomeric ligatures clear.
