Abstract

The study aimed to obtain data on the fatty acid profile of BSF maggot cultived using animal and plant-based media. The study was conducted through experimental stages and laboratory analysis. The experimental stage was carried out through BSF maggot cultivation using two media treatments, namely animal and plant-based media. The laboratory analysis stage began with the preparation of maggot samples to become mash. Next, a fatty acid profile analysis was conducted at PT. Saraswanti Indo Genetech Surabaya using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) to determine the type of fatty acids based on differences in volatility and molecular mass. The GC-MS results will provide quantitative data on the type and proportion of fatty acids continued in maggots. The parameters observed were water content, crude fat, and the fatty acid profile of maggots. The collected data were tabulated and discussed descriptively. Based on the results of laboratory analysis, it was found that maggots cultivated using animal media contained and average water content of 61.64% and crude fat of 55.48% (DM basis). Maggots cultivated using animal-source media contained higher unsaturated fatty acids than plant-source media. The highest laurate content was found in maggots cultivated using plant media (13.55%) compared to animal media (4.27%). The conclusion of this study is that the fatty acid profile is influenced by the growth media used, animal media will produce maggots with higher unsaturated fatty acids plant media will produce maggots with higher saturated fatty acids, especially lauric acid

Abstract

This research is an experimental study conducted on rice fields owned by farmers in Sembalun village and the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture at Unram. The research aims to determine the effect of fertilizer fermented with Streptomyces sp. on the growth and yield of garlic plants as well as the control of basal rot disease in garlic plants. The research was arranged using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments and repeated 6 times, resulting in 36 experimental units. The six treatments are: Without fertilizer application (P0), Goat manure fertilizer without the addition of bioactivator (P1), Goat manure fertilizer + Streptomyces sp. isolate SH (P2), Goat manure fertilizer + Streptomyces sp. isolate BSi (P3), Goat manure fertilizer + Streptomyces sp. isolate BSc (P4). Goat manure fertilizer + Isolate SH + Liquid SH (P5). The research results show that the treatment with Streptomyces sp isolate BSi (P3) produced the tallest plants (57.741 cm) and was significantly different from the treatment without fertilizer. (P0). Treatment P3 also produced the highest number of leaves (10.05) significantly different from the other treatments. The highest wet and dry weight of garlic bulbs was obtained in treatment P5, which were 2.556 g and 2.343 g, respectively. The lowest intensity of Fusarium wilt disease was obtained in treatment P4, which was 6.33%, and it was significantly different from P0 or without fertilizer treatment.

Abstract

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality globally, often resulting in cognitive and functional impairment. Effective neuroprotective strategies are needed to mitigate secondary injuries following TBI. This study evaluated the neuroprotective effects of combined Centella asiatica, cinnamon, and spirulina using NeuN and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) immunohistochemical staining in a rat model of TBI. Methods: Ten male Sprague-Dawley rats (200–400 g, 10–12 weeks) were subjected to TBI using the modified Marmarou model and treated orally with a combination extract of Centella asiatica, cinnamon, and spirulina for 10 days. On day 11, brain tissues were collected for histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining using NeuN and NSE markers to evaluate neurogenesis and neuronal survival. Results: Immunohistochemical analysis revealed a mean positive expression of 71.66% in the NeuN group, indicating increased neuronal survival and neurogenesis, while the NSE group consistently showed 0% positive staining across all samples. The NeuN staining provided a clear depiction of neuronal preservation in the brain tissue, whereas NSE did not demonstrate detectable neurogenesis or neuronal protection in this model. Conclusion: The administration of a combined extract of Centella asiatica, cinnamon, and spirulina demonstrated neuroprotective effects in a rat model of subacute traumatic brain injury, as indicated by increased NeuN immunohistochemical expression, reflecting enhanced neurogenesis and neuronal survival. NeuN staining provided a clearer and more sensitive depiction than NSE, supporting its reliability as an immunohistochemical marker for evaluating neuroprotection and neurogenesis during the subacute phase of TBI in models treated with herbal-based interventions.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the productive and reproductive performance of Boerlok does at different proportions of Boer goat blood. The research was carried out in areas of Boer × Local goat crossbreeding development in Lombok. The study location was determined using purposive sampling based on the breed of goats raised. A total of 90 Boerlok does were randomly selected as samples, consisting of 30 F1 Boerlok does, 30 F2 Boerlok does, and 30 F3 Boerlok does. The observed variables included body weight, body length, withers height, chest girth, days open, service per conception, service period, and kidding interval. Productive and reproductive performance data were analyzed descriptively using the mean and standard deviation (arithmetic mean ± standard deviation) according to data categories. Differences in productive and reproductive performance among goat breeds were analyzed using the t-test. The proportion of Boer goat blood had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the productive performance of Boerlok does; higher proportions of Boer blood resulted in higher productive performance. The proportion of Boer blood in Boerlok does had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the onset of first estrus postpartum, service period, and service per conception, but had a significant effect (P < 0.05) on first mating postpartum, days open, and kidding interval

Abstract

Coral reefs are coastal ecosystems with high biodiversity that play a crucial role in aquatic productivity and the sustainability of fisheries resources. Nektonic biota are closely linked to coral reef conditions through their roles in trophic structure, energy cycling, and the regulation of ecosystem dynamics. This study aimed to analyze the diversity, abundance, and biomass of reef-associated nektonic indicator species and other reef fishes in the Gili Matra Marine Conservation Area, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Data were collected from March to June 2024 using the Underwater Visual Census (UVC) method along 70 m belt transects
