Abstract

Black Turmeric (Curcuma caesia Roxb.) is a medicinal plant containing bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids and phenols which have antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of fermentate extract of endophytic fungi isolates derived from black turmeric rhizomes (Curcuma caesia Roxb.) against bacteria that cause oral infections such as Porphyromonas gingivalis and Streptococcus mutans by agar diffusion. Endophytic fungi isolates were obtained through isolation and purification processes using YGCA and PDA media. A total of 16 isolates were obtained, and 3 selected isolates (IFKH-8 and IFKH-9) showed antibacterial activity after screening tests (antagonistic tests). Macroscopic and microscopic morphological characterization tests were also carried out on selected isolates. Fermentation was carried out dynamically on MYB media for 3, 7, 14, and 21 days. The fermentate extract was evaluated for its antibacterial activity through the agar diffusion method against test bacteria. The results of the antibacterial activity test of ethyl acetate extract of endophytic fungi by diffusion to obtain the largest inhibition zone diameter in the IFKH-9 isolate of 7.27 mm at a concentration of 10% against Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria and in the IFKH-9 isolate of 7.29 mm at a concentration of 10% against Streptococcus mutans bacteria

Abstract

Diarrhea is an incident of defecation with a consistency that is more liquid than usual, with a frequency of three or more times per day. Improper and rapid management is the main cause of death from diarrhea. The Ministry of Health has begun to disseminate the Guidelines for the Management of Sick Toddler Therapy (MTBS) 2022. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of prescribing children's diarrhea medications by the Ministry of Health MTBS 2022 guidelines in the outpatient unit of Clinic "X" in Sidoarjo Regency. This study uses a descriptive evaluative design of the pattern of prescribing children's diarrhea based on the 2022 Ministry of Health MTBS, which was conducted during July - December 2023. The population in this study was the medical records of pediatric patients with diarrhea. Samples collected using a simple random technique with specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were taken from medical records, including gender, age, diagnosis, and type of medication prescribed, and analyzed to evaluate prescribing based on the 2022 Ministry of Health MTBS guidelines. The results of the prescribing pattern analysis showed a single prescribing pattern for 10 patients (16.67%) and a combination for 50 patients (83.33%). The appropriate prescribing pattern included a combination of ORS and zinc for 2 (3.33%) and inappropriate single without ORS and zinc, single only zinc or ORS, combination without zinc and ORS, and combination with only zinc or ORS respectively 8 (13.33%), 2 (3.33%), 19 (31.67%) and 29 (48.33%). Evaluation of prescribing patterns that did not comply with the guidelines revealed that 96.67% of prescriptions were made without including the administration of a combination of oral rehydration salt (ORS) and zinc, whereas those that complied with the guidelines included combinations that included the administration of a combination of oral rehydration salt (ORS) and zinc in 3.33% of cases

Abstract

Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a condition characterized by a sustained increase in blood pressure, exceeding the normal value of ≥140/90 mmHg. Hypertension therapy aims to lower both systolic and diastolic blood pressure to restore normal levels and minimize the risk of complications. The use of herbal plants such as bidara leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana L.) and Javanese ginseng (Talinum paniculatum (Jacq.) Gaertn.) holds potential as an alternative in the management of hypertension. Medicinal plants and plant-derived compounds can exhibit various toxicological effects, including renal, cardiac, and hepatic toxicity. This study aims to investigate the effects of Bidara leaf extract and Java ginseng leaf extract on the macroscopic appearance of the kidneys, heart, and liver of prednisone-induced hypertensive rats. The study used 20 rats divided into five groups: negative control (Na-CMC 1%), positive control (Captopril 25 mg), and three groups receiving combined doses of bidara leaf and Javanese ginseng leaf ethanol extracts (EEBG 50+50 mg/kgBW, EEBG 100+100 mg/kgBW, EEBG 200+200 mg/kgBW). The results showed that the combination extract of Bidara leaves (Ziziphus mauritiana L.) and Ginseng leaves (Talinum paniculatum (Jacq.) Geartn.) at doses of 50+50, 100+100, and 200+200 mg/kgBW did not cause any macroscopic changes. Macroscopic observations showed that the kidneys, hearts, and livers of mice administered EEBG maintained a reddish-brown color with a firm consistency and smooth surface

Abstract

The rubber kebo plant (Ficus elastica) is traditionally known to have various benefits, including as an anti-inflammatory agent. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of ethanol extract of rubber kebo leaves using the red blood cell (RBCs) membrane stabilisation method in vitro. Kebo rubber leaves were extracted by a maceration method using 96% ethanol, and anti-inflammatory activity was tested by measuring the stability of RBCs membrane against hypotonic solution-induced haemolysis. The results showed that ethanol extract of rubber kebo leaves had anti-inflammatory activity with a percentage of membrane stabilisation of 31.156% at a concentration of 40 ppm and reached 51.998% at a concentration of 200 ppm. This activity is caused by the content of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids and tannins that work by stabilising the red blood cell membrane. Compared to the positive control of diclofenate sodium, the extract showed competitive effectiveness, albeit lower

Abstract

Labuang Baji Regional General Hospital in Makassar provides services for hypertension, including consultation, treatment, and monitoring of patients with hypertension. Hypertension management can be done with antihypertensive drugs, which must be used rationally to achieve target blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications. This study aims to analyze the profile of antihypertensive drug use in terms of correct indication, correct drug, correct dose, and correct dosing interval in inpatients at Labuang Baji Regional General Hospital. This study uses a quantitative method with a descriptive non-experimental research type with data collection carried out retrospectively from patient medical record data from January to April 2023 with a sample size of 50 people. The results of the study showed that the level of rational compliance was high where the results of the evaluation of the use of antihypertensive drugs were based on the right indication 100%, the right drug 98%, the right dose 94%, and the right time interval of administration 94%. Thus, the rational use of antihypertensive drugs is needed to achieve clinical outcomes to improve the quality of life of patients.
