Abstract

The purposes of this study is to determine the role of competitiveness toward online drivers motivation. The hypotheses of this study is the competitiveness has a role to motivation. The participants for the research was 120 online drivers in Palembang City and the study used quota sample technique. The scales used were the scales of competitiveness and motivation. The data were analyzed using simple regression. The result showed that there is a significant role of competitiveness toward motivation with r = 0,397; F = 22,046 ; p = 0,000 (p <0.05). Thus, the hypothesis of this study is accepted.Key words: Competitiveness, motivation, online driversAbstrak: Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui peran daya saing terhadap motivasi. Hipotesis penelitian yaitu daya saing memiliki peran terhadap motivasi. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 120 orang pengemudi online di Kota Palembang. Penelitian menggunakan teknik sampel kuota. Skala yang digunakan yaitu skala daya saing dan motivasi. Analisis data menggunakan regresi sederhana. Hasil analisis regresi menunjukkan bahwa daya saing memiliki peran yang signifikan terhadap motivasi dengan nilai r=0,397; F=22,046 dan p=0,000 (p<0,05). Dengan demikian hipotesis pada penelitian ini diterima.

Abstract

Stevedoring activities at container terminals make it one of the most dangerous workplace for employees because they have to deal with variety of high-risk conditions as well as high-risk equipments. Therefore it is not suprising that container terminals have high occupational accidents rate. Furthermore, several statistical reports also indicate that most maritime accidents are attributable to human error. The purpose of this study is to explain the effect of safety climate and big-five personality on employee safety performance. Safety climate and big five personality are considered as two factors that influence employee safety performance. Therefore strong positive safety climate in organization will be able improve employee safety performance and reduce accidents. This study was conducted to 148 employees in a container terminal by using simple random sampling as the sampling technique. Multiple regression technique was used to examine the effect of safety climate and big-five personality on employee safety performance. The result revealed that safety climate and big-five personality positively affect employee safety performance.Key words: Safety climate, big five personality, safety performanceAbstrak: Aktivitas bongkar muat pada terminal peti kemas menjadikannya sebagai salah satu tempat kerja yang paling berbahaya karena karyawan harus menghadapi beragam aktivitas yang beresiko tinggi dan peralatan kerja yang berbahaya.  Maka dari itu, bukan suatu hal yang mengejutkan bahwa terminal peti kemas memiliki tingkat kecelakaan kerja yang tinggi. Lebih jauh lagi, sejumlah data statistik juga menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas kecelakaan kerja pada sektor industri maritim berkaitan dengan kesalahan manusia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan pengaruh iklim keselamatan kerja dan big five personality terhadap perilaku keselamatan karyawan. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 148 karyawan di salah satu terminal peti kemas dengan menggunakan simple random sampling sebagai teknik sampling. Analisis regresi berganda digunakan untuk menguji pengaruh antara iklim keselamatan kerja dan big five personality terhadap perilaku keselamatan karyawan. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa iklim keselamatan kerja dan big five personality secara positif berpengaruh pada perilaku keselamatan karyawan.

Abstract

Conventional learning method is viewed to be less effective because it poses the problems of space and time. Information Technology offers a method for more effective online learning called e-learning. This research aims to develop e-learning for the module of Child Development at Department of Psychology Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This study was a developmental research project that used the method of ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). This model was chosen because the stages of its development are deemed appropriate especially for the refinement and implementation of e-materials in online system which facilitates the interactions among students and between the students and lecturers. The subjects of this study were 34 undergraduate psychology students who participated in the module of Child Development. This study was conducted during four meetings. The results of this study were e-material products which were uploaded in online learning system. The e-materials have been validated by experts. A questionnaire to record students responses on the e-materials was used. The analysis on the data resulted from students responses shows that there is no significant effect of the  e-learning application in the module of Child Development on the students learning achievement. Teknologi Informasi menawarkan metode pembelajaran yang dinamakan metode e-learning. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran e-learning pada mahasiswa yang memprogrram mata kuliah Perkembangan Anak di Jurusan Psikologi. Metode penelitian menggunakan Model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Model ini dipilih karena tahapan-tahapan pengembangannya dipandang sesuai terutama untuk penyempurnaan dan implementasi bahan ajar e-materi dalam sistem online dan fasilitas interaksi mahasiswa dengan dosen dan antar mahasiswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa yang memprogram mata kuliah Perkembangan Anak sejumlah 34 mahasiswa. Pelaksanaan penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama empat kali pertemuan. Hasil penelitian ini adalah produk e-material yang telah divalidasi oleh ahli. Kuesioner disebarkan untuk diisi oleh mahasiswa dengan tujuan untuk mengukur respon mereka atas penggunaan e-learning dan e-material. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada pengaruh signifikan dari penerapan pembelajaran e-learning terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between empowering leadership from the perspective of subordinates and employees innovative work behavior and to test the role of psychological empowerment as a mediator variable. The hypotheses were simultaneously tested using path analysis. Data were collected with an online survey answered by 146 employees at various manufacture industry sectors both private and public in Indonesia, such as manufacture of food and beverages products, wood, chemicals, pharmeceuticals, basic metal, and the others. Sample of this study consist of 60,3% male and 39,7% female, with the average age was 29 years old. This study found a direct and indirect relationship between empowering leadership and innovative work behavior via psychological empowerment. This study indicates that psychological empowerment partially mediates the relationship between empowering leadership and innovative work behavior. In addition, both empowering leadership and psychological empowerment are able to trigger employees innovative work behavior.Key words: Empowering Leadership, psychological empowerment, innovative work behaviorAbstrak: Inovasi yang dilakukan oleh karyawan merupakan salah satu cara terbaik dalam meningkatkan inovasi dan kesuksesan organisasi. Penelitian ini menguji hubungan antara empowering leadership berdasarkan perspektif dari bawahan dengan perilaku kerja inovatif karyawan dan menguji peran psychological empowerment sebagai variabel mediator. Hipotesis penelitian ini diuji dengan menggunakan analisis jalur. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui survei secara online yang diisi oleh 146 karyawan yang bekerja di berbagai sektor industri manufaktur baik perusahaan umum maupun swasta di Indonesia, seperti industri makanan dan minuman, kayu, farmasi, bahan kimia, logam dasar, dan lain-lain. Sampel dari penelitian ini terdiri dari 60,3% laki-laki dan 39,7% perempuan, dengan usia rata-rata responden yaitu 29 tahun. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa terdapat hubungan langsung dan tidak langsung antara empowering leadership dengan perilaku kerja inovatif melalui psychological empowerment. Hasil penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa psychological empowerment berperan sebagai mediator parsial dalam hubungan kedua konstruk tersebut. Empowering leadership dan psychological empowerment dapat memicu munculnya perilaku kerja inovatif karyawan.

Abstract

Research on the personality and its correlation to happiness found that personality is a strong predictor of happiness.  Further studies also reveal that high self-esteem is found to be positively correlated with happiness. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between personality and happiness and specifically to examine how the correlation of both is mediated by\ self-esteem. This study hypothesises that personality correlates with happiness, and self-esteem mediate the correlation of personality with happiness. 118 participants of this study were adolescents to late adulthood in the ages ranged from 12 to 60 years. Data collected using Big Five inventory, personal self-esteem scale and mental health continuum-short form. The results show that the Big Five personality is correlated with both self-esteem and happiness. The result also proves that self-esteem mediates the relationship between the Big Five personality and the happiness.Key words: big five personality, self-esteem, happiness Abstract: Penelitian sebelumnya tentang kepribadian dan kebahagiaan menemukan bahwa kepribadian berkorelasi dengan kebahagiaan dan merupakan prediktor yang kuat terhadap kebahagiaan. Penelitian selanjutnya juga menemukan bahwa bahwa harga diri yang tinggi berkorelasi positif dengan kebahagiaan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji hubungan antara kepribadian dan kebahagiaan dan secara khusus ingin menguji bagaimana korelasi keduanya dengan dimediasi dengan harga diri. Hipotesis penelitian ini adalah kepribadian berkorelasi dengan kebahagiaan dan harga diri menentukan korelasi kepribadian dengan kebahagiaan sebagai mediator. Partisipan pada penelitian ini sebanyak 118 orang yang merupakan populasi umum dalam kategori remaja sampai dewasa akhir dengan rentang usia 12- 60 tahun. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah big five inventory, skala personal self-esteem dan mental health continuum-short form. Hasil-hasil yang ditunjukkan dalam penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa kepribadian big five berkorelasi dengan harga diri. Kemudian kepribadian big five berkorelasi dengan kebahagiaan. Sehingga, dapat dibuktikan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara kepribadian Big Five dengan kebahagiaan yang di mediatori oleh harga diri.

Abstract

Smartphone is the most widely used device to access internet. Adolescents tend to access internet excessively that makes them to be more dependent and addicted to it. Internet addiction can be influenced by both internal and external factors and one of them is the quality of parent-adolescent relation. The purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between the quality of parent-adolescent relationship and internet addiction. Population of this study was high school students in Surakarta who use smartphones. The total number of 354 subjects was recruited using multistage cluster random sampling by determining the selected classrooms from the selected clusters. The instruments used to collect data were Internet Addiction Scale (α = 0,860), Quality of Father-Adolescent Relationship Scale (α = 0,815), and Quality of Mother-Adolescent Relationship Scale (α = 0,815). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. The result shows that there is a significant negative correlation between quality of parent-adolescent relationship and internet addiction with Fcalculated > Ftable (8,174 > 3,03) and r = -0,211 in the significant value of  p <0,05. Partially, the significancy of correlation between quality of relationship and internet addiction is only proved for mother-adolescent relationship.Keywords: Internet addiction, internet user, parent-adolescent relationship

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the effect of parental emotional coaching on the improvement of the parenting style and parents acceptances towards their deaf children. The population of this study was parents who have deaf children at Special Primary  School B 'X' Surabaya. There were 9 subjects involved in this study. This study employed an experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. Data were collected using parenting style and parents acceptance scales and analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The result shows that the value of Z = -2,668 with the asymp value of sig = 0.008 (p <0.05). It can be concluded from the result that parental emotional coaching training increases positive parenting style and parents acceptances towards their deaf children. Keywords: Parental emotional coaching, parenting style, acceptance, deaf children

Abstract

The performance of civil servants is important to be measured by each regional government in Indonesia. Thus, the Regional Government in District X in East Java has been renewing the performance appraisal method for civil servants in its educational unit by using the e-performance application. The e-performance is used to monitor the suitability of the working hours of each civil servant. The successful use of e-performance will be determined by the role of supervisors. Based on this fact, this study examined the influence of time management and leader-member exchange on the performance of civil servants in District X through the implementation of e-performance system. Hypothesizes of this study were tested using multiple regression analysis. Data were collected using time management and leader-member exchange scales. A total of 285 civil servants in District X which consist of 38.6% men and 61.4% women were involved in this study. The results show that there is positive effect of time management and leader-member exchange on the performance of participants. This study concludes that a positive time management and leader-member exchange among participants will lead to their better performances.  Keywords: Time management, leader-member exchange, civil servants, performance

Abstract

Value is a fundamental variable that underlies human life. Value serves as a guidance for someone to take an action. In the field of education, achievement value orientation can guide a students to act accordingly in order to gain academic achievements. The aim of this study was toexamine how achievement value serve as a moderator bewtween grit and academic achievement relations. Data were collected using online surveys from 363 undergraduate students of University of Indonesia and were analyzed using multiple regression. The results show that achievement value is significantly proved as a moderator of the relationship between grit and academic achievement. Students who believe in a greater achievement value shows grittier behavior in the context of study and greater effort in facing challenges in college. The grittier the students, the higher academic achievementsthey achieve.Keywords: Achievement value, grit, academic achievement, students

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of an anti-bullying training program for elementary school bullies. The training program provides knowledge about bullying as well as various activities that can improve the ability of empathy and self-control and decrease bullying behaviors. A quasi-experiment with one-group pretest-and-posttest design was employed. Fifteen student bullies from the grades 5A and 5B  of a private Elementary School ˜X were recruited based on the results of teachers interviews, students sociometry and focus group discussions (FGD). Data were collected using empathy scale and Peer Interaction in Primary School Questionnaire. Qualitative data were also collected from participants and their teachers using interviews and FGD. Data on bullying behavior and empathy were analyzed using paired sample t-tests, while knowledge of bullying and self control were analyzed qualitatively. The result of t-test shows that the effect of the anti-bullying training is not significant. However, results from qualitative analysis show that participants' knowledge about bullying has increased and bullying behaviors of participants, primarily among students of class 5B, have decreased. In contrast, bullying behaviors of participants from the class 5A remain unchanged. The ways the homeroom teachers use to manage both classrooms determine the changes in bullying behaviors.Keywords: Bullying, training, empathy, self-control, primary school students
