Abstract

The second goal of the UN Millennium Development calls for universal primary education by 2015. Is this goal too ambitious? How much have/are the educational systems doing around the world to achieve this goal? Is the political will there? Is education really inclusive? These questions and many more are much of moral questions. Inclusive education that is concerned with all learners, with a focus on those who have traditionally been excluded from educational opportunities such as learners with special needs and disabilities, children from ethnic and linguistic minorities could be one of the many ways of achieving the second UN Millennium Development goal, hence showing how different cultures responds to the different needs of learners. This paper engages a debate on whether the education system is actually inclusive or not and entails norms of the land. The paper focuses mainly on the inclusion of children and/or people with disabilities; the challenges children and/or people with disabilities face; and lastly the role that distance education could play towards achieving inclusive education.

Abstract

The satwika lifestyle refers to the understanding that the physical body should be maintained through wise thoughts and behavior in determining what is good and bad for the body so that it is always in a fit and fit state. Technology affects the lifestyle of modern society. Practical lifestyles are not necessarily balanced with health awareness. Fast food variations and online food delivery services are practical choices even though they do not meet nutritional standards that can affect health quality. Body Mass Index (BMI) can be an indicator of health, so it can guide a person to control the food consumed. This study innovates the development of a manual BMI measurement tool at STMIK STIKOM Indonesia into a BMI measurement tool that can be accessed online with a concept called IoT (Internet Of Things). The design of the IoT Based BMI Measurement Tool at STMIK STIKOM Indonesia is expected to help lecturers, staff, and students at STMIK STIKOM Indonesia to be able to check their BMI regularly so that they can optimize the satwika lifestyle. The data of this research were obtained by conducting observation, e-questionnaire, and interview methods and then elaborated with qualitative descriptive to describe that the BMI measuring instrument can function and assist the academic community of STMIK STIKOM Indonesia in maintaining a satwika lifestyle.

Abstract

This article is intended to reveal the ecological aspect of Kuttara Kandha Dewa Purana Bangsul, a text in which it is described that Mount Batukaru is one of the holy areas in Bali Island. It is considered a place where the god of fertility resides; therefore, its ecosystem needs to be maintained. Such a signification is interesting and important to be investigated. The other reason is that, physically, the Mount Batukaru area is a water absorbing area as well as a nature reserve area. The problem of the study is how Mount Batukaru is pictured and signified in the text. The data were collected using the observation, reading, note taking, transliterating, and translating techniques. The theory of Semiotics proposed by Roland Barthes was employed. The result of the study shows that Mount Batukaru is considered the center of the energy of plants; therefore, it is recommended that plants be maintained and respected as the God’s physical form. It is expected that the result of the study may be used as one of the references to save the environment as one of the world’s current strategic issues.
