Abstract

Bali has kept various forms of unique traditions, different from other regions. Like one of them is thetradition of tabuh rah. This tradition is part of a ritual or yajna carried out by the Balinese Hinducommunity. In this tradition, the facilities used are two roosters pitted against each other. The bloodfrom the chicken will be used as a tabuh rah. However, the tabuh rah ritual has changed its meaningto become tajen. Several factors influence this change and one of them is the implementation of ahobby owned by Balinese men, which is known as a bebotoh hobby. This article explores the valuesin the shift in meaning from the tabuh rah ritual to the tajen by using the philosophical hermeneuticmethod from data obtained through library research. The results of this study are 1). The valuecontained in the tabuh rah ritual can be explained in the form of Max Scheler's hierarchy of values. The highest value is the values of the holy as a sacred ritual and aims to perfect the animal's spiritto be sacrificed. The spiritual value seen from the tabuh rah ritual is the implementation oftantrayana teachings. The vital value can be seen from the purpose of the tabuh rah ritual as theimplementation of the Tri Hita Karana teachings last is the value of pleasure. 2). There is a shift invalues from the tabuh rah ritual to tajen. 3). The value to be achieved in tajen is the value of pleasure, which is a form of channelling a hobby and wanting to win from the gamble. Thus, other values areneglected.

Abstract

The endogamy mating model reflects an individual's preference for mating within their own group. Endogamy has been widely practiced in many societies and used by various types of groups. The caste system in India requires endogamy. There is strong pressure for them to marry within their own sub-caste and there are strong sanctions against violators. Today's social phenomenon in the life of the Hindu community in Bali shows a change regarding the prohibition of exogamy marriages between clans. Marriages that occur in Hindu communities in Bali in the modern era today are not only carried out endogamy within the tri wangsa group, but also exogamy marriages between the tri wangsa and wangsa jaba groups have often occurred, not even a few have carried out mixed marriages between both groups. Religion as well as between nations and this has received recognition from the community.

Abstract

The background of this research takes a different position with many writings discussing Hindu women who are generally said to be marginal and alienated from their cultural structure and social system. Even if it is associated with customs and culture, one of them is through the patrilineal system as it applies in Bali, they are considered to have no contribution at all. Another theme that is also often found in many types of research is the ambivalent attitude that worships Hindu women while at the same time degrading them, especially concerning women's bodies. There are not many writers who re-discuss this theme from the anthropology of religion or religious anthropology which views women in the scriptures not only as a theological and divine dimension but also as an open space for how women can see themselves and act in their culture. Through qualitative research methods using the perspective of religious anthropology based primarily on Hindu scriptures, this study found in-depth interviews and participatory observations and anthropological perspectives of religion enriched with literature studies in the form of holy scriptures, this study found so many important roles of Hindu women who not many people know. The negative stigma about women, the natural-cultural dichotomy, and those who consider Hindu women to be sub-ordinate can only be enlightened through this research.
