Abstract

Transit oriented development (TOD) typology in Maguwo train station area, Yogyakarta Transit oriented development (TOD) is a concept to address problems related to the lack of public transportation use in urban areas. Empirical conditions in Maguwo station area have not applied the TOD principle, especially related to density and diversity aspects, which results in the low intensity of public transportation use, based on these conditions it is necessary to reposition the area with TOD concept. Repositioning Maguwo station area with TOD concept begins with a review of existing conditions and TOD typologies that ideal to be implied in Maguwo station area, finding gaps between existing conditions and ideal TOD typology, and recommendations for resolving the gaps, will be input for design process of TOD area. The study uses quantitative and qualitative deductive methods with research variables including character of regional development, variety, and intensity of spatial use. The research showed the ideal TOD typology applied in Maguwo station area was a sub urban TOD. The gap between the existing conditions and sub urban TOD standard is the lack of residential units and the low intensity of spatial use including building, residential, and population density. Therefore, the design area need to add the number of residential units and increase the intensity of building density to match the sub urban TOD standard. © 2020 Agus Setiawan, Ikaputra

Abstract

Effects of changes in circulation on spatial function in peranakan house, Babagan Village, Lasem A change could affect circulation in a building. The change may be influenced by external or internal sources that are related to the perspective of tradition, culture and social surroundings. It may indirectly presents a new feature that can accommodate the needs of residents and this happens in one of the Peranakan houses in Lasem. It could be seen as a form of conservation while respecting family and social traditions and culture. The purpose of this study is to understand which components that influence changes in the circulation of space within the Peranakan-Kidang Mas housing complex which includes the main building, courtyard, kitchen, and workshop. To answer these objectives, the methods used are surveys, interviews, and observation. This narrative research discussion is supported by a spatial concept and research findings show that changes in circulation make it possible to give new meaning to the function of a space. © 2020 Tessa Eka Darmayanti, Azizi Bahauddin

Abstract

Religious acculturation in vernacular architecture in the Pontianak Malay house Since its founding, Pontianak has been a multicultural society which is, reflected by the embodiment of the acculturation of traditional house architecture found in the neighborhoods where the city was firstly established and still exist until today. The history this city shows, that multicultural has existed for a long time, as the result of cultural integration of certain ethnic groups in the early formation of the Pontianak sultanate. This research is intended to explore further, the religious acculturation that accompanies the embodiment of ethnic acculturation in the vernacular architecture of the Pontianak Malay house. In this city, Malay is an embodiment of inter-ethnic diaspora who share Islamic faith. This research is a qualitative-descriptive research with a case study approach that involve 30 selected samples. The analysis is based on the extent to which the strength of the religious system of each ethnicity involved in the process of acculturation, with reference to the history of the development of da'wah in Pontianak in particular and in West Kalimantan in general. The study uncovered that religious acculturation embodied in Pontianak Malay vernacular architecture represented the form of tolerance between Islamic religious groups of each ethnicity (acculturation-separative) and in the physical element of acculturation to show respects to the authority of the Bugeinese vernacular (integrative-assimilative acculturation). It is hoped that the results of this study will further enrich the main elements of the vernacular architecture of the Pontianak Malay house, and will further illustrate the richness of Pontianak Malay Culture.

Abstract

Abstract

The concept of biomimetic in the Oceanarium building The concept of biomimetic architecture, which is rarely heard, has many advantages that can be applied to architectural work. The purpose of using the concept of biomimetic architecture is to maximize functions, achieve energy efficiency, and improve the quality of objects and user activities by applying one or more biological criteria from 11 biological criteria. The oceanarium building is a museum building with marine life as an object of the exhibition with functions as educational facilities, recreation facilities, observation centers, and marine life conservation facilities. The oceanarium building is one of the educational facilities that are most readily accepted by the public. This has become very important at this time where the need for education about biota and marine life is increasingly threatened by landfill and the uncontrolled fishing on a large scale. Research on architectural concepts in oceanarium buildings uses qualitative research methods. By collecting data and studies both from observation and literature. The conclusion in the form of the influence of the existence of each biological criterion applied to an oceanarium building.

Abstract

Spatial integration in physical boundary design of urban housing The increasing number of residents of a city, the higher level of citizens' need for housing. The community's need for housing is answered by the developer by building housing in several areas. However, the phenomenon that occurs at this time is that the housing development often does not pay attention to the existence of existing settlements first, so that physical boundaries are created with poor physical spatial quality and create barriers between new housing and the surrounding environment. The physical boundaries that frame the city's housing complex certainly lead to the phenomenon of spatial segregation in the surrounding environment. Hence, the main purpose of this journal is to find out the extent of spatial integration that is applied to the physical boundaries of Setra Duta Bandung housing. The discussion method is carried out by analyzing problems and opportunities that arise at the physical boundaries in the study area, synergizing with the study of literature on spatial integration in the physical boundaries of urban housing. During the observations, it was found that the physical boundaries of Setra Duta housing showed spatial segregation with the part of the city that surrounds it. Spatial segregation is created as a result of something physical that causes or clarifies differences. This phenomenon brings negative impacts such as deteriorating the physical quality of spatial and shared space in the housing border area. © 2020 Fauziyyah Sofiyah Radliyatullah, Yohanes Basuki Dwisusanto

Abstract

Architectures in Indonesia are often identified as 'unique' compared to European and American constructions. They are referred to as Wastuwidya by Mangunwijaya and Nusantara by Prijotomo. This paper, therefore, aimed to examine the reasons for the perceived similar principles between the Indonesian architectures and those in Europe or America and also reviewed the architecture in the country beyond the identity. This involved the application of a historical approach with synchronous-diachronic methods to determine the significance of a historical timeline and its architectural content. The results showed the country’s modern architecture is associated with the foreign entry, its climate, and socio-cultural conditions, and also perceived as a sign of certain political powers presented during the Daendels and Sukarno era. Indonesian and European/American architectural designs were also observed to have different entry processes. Therefore, modern architecture should be perceived as a process rather than a product. © 2020 Johannes Adiyanto

Abstract

Contemporary architects highlight past ideas and present new manifestos often perceived as utopian. Bjarke Ingels introduced hedonistic sustainability in response to the demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable living through different perspectives. This paper comprehensively explains the concept of hedonistic sustainability through the designs of Bjarke Ingels, a contemporary architect. Literature from various sources is examined to describe Bjarke Ingels' idea. Hedonistic sustainability combines sustainable ideas, fun, and community. Bjarke Ingels's architectural design is applied through simulation and an ironic approach. Its representation facilitates the exploration of the design objects planned concretely. The idea of playful and communality was raised through the design that accommodates various user activities. Bjarke Ingels's idea is expected to contribute to the knowledge and contemporary architecture design process in Indonesia. © 2020 Nita Dwi Estika, Yudhistira Kusuma, Dewi Retno Prameswari, Iwan Sudradjat
