Abstract

The present study is aimed at determining the feasibility of implementing a construction project at the stage of re-investment based on the principles of development in Ukraine. The study included a survey that helped identify the key factors of investment budget overruns, as well as economic modelling of construction projects, which helped identify the relationship between risks and financial performance. The data obtained were analysed using correlation analysis to assess the impact of development principles on the effectiveness of management decisions. The study found that a significant number of construction projects face risks that exceed the originally planned budget. The main factors affecting budget overruns were changes in the regulatory environment, underestimation of materials and labour costs, and unpredictable external economic factors. Economic modelling has shown that companies that implement development principles can reduce the risk of budget overruns compared to those that do not. This indicates a significant positive impact of development on management decisions. The correlation analysis revealed a strong correlation between the implementation of development principles and the growth of return on investment. Companies that have implemented these principles have recorded an increase in profitability compared to similar projects that have not used these approaches. The application of development principles helped to make more informed investment decisions. The results of the study highlight the importance of integrating development principles into the management strategies of construction companies.

Abstract

Mosques, as public spaces, function as places of prayer and centers of social, educational, and cultural activity. According to Sharia, Muslim women are not required to worship in mosques, but in some cases, many Muslim women still carry out activities in mosques. Islamic Sharia rules regarding Muslim women in public places, including mosques, should also be applied. The need for privacy for Muslim women in public spaces (mosques) is the subject of this research. This is related to Islamic law, mosque spatial planning, and the use of boundaries in space. The research problem is how the boundaries of mosque spaces accommodate the needs of Muslim women according to Islamic law. The case study is the Al-Barkah Mosque, a grand mosque in Bekasi City. The research method employed is a qualitative descriptive approach with theological analysis, based on Islamic Sharia. Observations were made on the mosque space, including zoning, circulation, and height and material limitations. Interviews were conducted with several Muslim women as users and managers of the mosque. The results of this study are in the form of evaluations and recommendations for mosque space according to the privacy needs of Muslim women at the mosque.

Abstract

This research is based on the phenomenon of the discovery of temple artifacts as cultural heritage, which are often found in the Yogyakarta region at a depth of approximately 2 to 7 meters from the surface, with the location of the discovery varying from rice fields, settlements, to areas that have been planned in the master plan for development. This condition causes problems in the form of incompleteness in the restoration process, due to limitations in space, resources, and connectivity with the surrounding area context. On the other hand, various countries have proven the success of the application of digital technology in supporting the preservation of cultural heritage, but in Indonesia, especially in the case of buried temples, its application is still limited. This study aims to reveal the role of digital technology, specifically virtual reality (VR) applications, in supporting cultural heritage preservation efforts in the case of buried temples in Yogyakarta. The research method uses a qualitative approach with an architectural case study, which combines literature review, field observation, and interpretive analysis of the potential use of VR and Heritage BIM integration in the context of preservation. The research results show that VR and HBIM technology play a significant role in presenting three-dimensional visual representations that are able to strengthen public understanding, education, and immersive experiences, so that the preservation of buried temple cultural heritage can be realized in a more meaningful, sustainable, and adaptive manner to the challenges of modern development.

Abstract

This paper investigates the raft houses of Palembang, known as "rumah rakit," which epitomize the affluent cultural amalgamation of Chinese and Malay influences. These floating dwellings, integral to the riverine lifestyle of Palembang, offer a unique lens through which to examine the historical and socio-cultural interactions between Chinese immigrants and the indigenous Malay community. The study employs comparative architectural analysis and historical documentation methods to uncover how these structures blend cultural practices, traditions, and environmental adaptations. The raft houses reflect the practical responses to living on water and symbolize the harmonious coexistence and mutual influence of Chinese and Malay cultures. By exploring these homes' evolution, design, and cultural significance, the research highlights their role as living heritage sites that preserve and perpetuate the dynamic process of cross-cultural exchange. The findings underscore the importance of these structures in understanding the broader narrative of cultural integration and identity formation in Palembang, with the leader as a key factor in the “Rumah Rakit” transformation, especially in the stage of collective action to modify the raft house. That community's collective action could be analyzed in another case of cross-cultural architecture.

Abstract

As a courtyard gateway imbued with symbolic significance, the angkul-angkul embodies Balinese cultural and spiritual values while offering a distinctive tectonic expression that merits preservation. This study seeks to uncover the essence and underlying tectonic principles inherent in the construction and architectural articulation of the angkul-angkul, with the aim of elucidating its architectural value within the traditional building system and identifying its primary structural components. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research integrates an extensive literature review with the Delphi method to achieve expert consensus and ensure analytical validation. The results indicate that the angkul-angkul manifests a harmonious balance among aesthetic visual identity, tradition-based construction systems, and philosophical meaning. These values are articulated through six principal aspects: form, dimension, structure, spatial configuration, materiality, and ornamentation. Collectively, these six aspects constitute the fundamental basis shaping both the structural integrity and aesthetic expression of the angkul-angkul. Ultimately, the study’s findings establish a structured set of design criteria that can inform and guide future angkul-angkul design practices, ensuring that its ongoing development remains contextually grounded, sustainable, and aligned with local cultural principles.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the long-standing presence of a dedicated building for storing rice (granary) in traditional houses serves as clear evidence of the significance of agricultural produce within the country’s cultural heritage. Before the advent of modern financial systems, rice functioned as a symbol of wealth and prosperity for indigenous communities, and for this reason, it was kept in a specialized structure known as a granary. In relation to traditional Bawean houses, this structure is referred to as a Dhurung, a standalone form that is typically situated at the front of the house. With the gradual shift towards modernization, however, more practical storage solutions, such as using boxes placed in the kitchen or cooking areas, have emerged, causing the traditional function of the rice barn to undergo a significant transformation. The Dhurung, which once served as a vital storage facility for rice, has accordingly evolved in response to changing lifestyles and needs. This study therefore aims to investigate the transformation of the Dhurung from a rice storage facility into a multipurpose space that is often used for gathering and socializing on the front porch of Bawean Island's traditional houses. The primary objective of this research is to identify the underlying motivations that have driven the functional shift of the Dhurung, while also examining the dynamics of cultural adaptation and the evolving needs of communities. By examining the transformation of the Dhurung using Qualitative Method, this study seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of granary in Indonesia and to inform future studies on the diversity of rice barns across Indonesia. Through exploring the transformation of traditional structures like the Dhurung, this research promotes a more nuanced understanding of the complex relationships between cultural heritage, community needs, and sustainable development.

Abstract

This study aims to turn on artificial outdoor lighting in the State Electricity Company (PLN) Building as a cultural heritage building in the Kayutangan Heritage Area using DIALux Evo simulation with input measurements and observations in the field. This simulation assesses the average lighting level, lighting uniformity, and energy efficiency, with comparisons to national and international standards. The focus of the study includes the average illumination value, lighting uniformity, and glare assessment which will later be developed into the principle of intelligent lighting in preserving cultural heritage buildings. Based on the simulation results, it was found that most areas of the building have lighting levels below SNI standards, especially in outdoor/pedestrian areas (horizontal elements) and facades (vertical elements). The overlay graph shows a significant disparity in light distribution. These results indicate the need for lighting design interventions in pedestrian areas and building facades. The development of lighting design can later be in accordance with considering aspects of surface materials, functionality, energy efficiency, and most importantly, it can support aspects of preserving cultural heritage buildings. This research is expected to be the basis for developing sustainable lighting strategies in cultural heritage buildings, especially in the Kayutangan Area.

Abstract

Kota Baru Parahyangan (KBP) is one of the luxury residential areas in West Bandung Regency, developed under the garden city concept. The area is designed to provide a comfortable, green, and integrated living environment. It consists of various residential clusters, educational facilities, commercial centers, and green open spaces. The Covid-19 pandemic triggered changes in residents’ behavior, such as the rise in home-based activities (work from home) and an increased demand for open spaces. In this context, a study of the settlement sustainability concept in KBP becomes crucial, particularly to assess how adaptive and resilient the area has been in facing multidimensional crises. This research aims to examine how KBP endured the pandemic by evaluating aspects of environmental sustainability, architectural design, and economic strategies that support the resilience of the area. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach, using literature review, field observation, and interviews with KBP stakeholders. The absence of studies addressing the link between KBP’s residential environment and its sustainability during the Covid-19 pandemic represents a research gap that this study seeks to address. Therefore, between 2021 and 2022, KBP can be regarded as having successfully navigated the challenges of the pandemic through its natural environmental concept, context-appropriate spatial and architectural planning, and effective marketing strategies.

Abstract

This study highlights the role of architectural settings as sacred spaces in the ritual practices of the Bayan community in Lombok, Indonesia. The research focuses on three key rituals: Menggawe Menyunat, which signifies human relationships through the coming-of-age ceremony for Bayan boys; Ngaji Makem Ngaturang Ula Kayang, representing human connection with nature as an expression of gratitude for agricultural bounty; and Maulid Adat, symbolizing human bonds with God during the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad's birth. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research integrates field observations, in-depth interviews, and literature analysis to reveal the function, hierarchy, and transformation of ritual spaces such as Masjid Kuno Bayan Beleq, traditional houses, and the sacred pathway Rurung Agung. The findings demonstrate that these architectural settings are not merely venues for rituals but embody the spiritual, cultural, and ecological symbolism of the Bayan community. This article contributes to the discourse on sacred architecture and the preservation of traditional culture amidst modern challenges.

Abstract

Makaling Village, located in South Papua Province, exhibits multi-functional spatial characteristics that operate on two scales: micro and meso. The village is inhabited by the Coastal Malind, a sub-tribe of the Malind Anim, whose spatial practices generate distinctive multi-functional spatial phenomena. In contemporary urban contexts, the concept of multifunctionality and the pursuit of modernity often require flexible spatial arrangements to accommodate diverse activities within a single space. This tendency is largely driven by the limitations of land availability amid increasing population pressure and escalating spatial demands. In contrast, rural settlements such as Makaling reveal a different manifestation of multifunctionality known as kamem la sai, which embodies deeper spatial and cultural layers beyond what is physically perceptible. This phenomenon is rooted in a local philosophical concept referred to as otih ka kaleh wabla. The study employs eidetic reduction analysis within the framework of Husserl’s transcendental phenomenological qualitative research. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct field observations, leading to the identification of several observation units, thematic structures, and conceptual layers each corresponding to stages of phenomenological reduction. The primary objective of this research is to articulate the intentional awareness inherent in the kamem la sai phenomenon in Makaling, as revealed through the phenomenological reduction process. The implications of this study extend to the development of human resources in architectural academia, the formulation of government policies, spatial planning practices, and architectural design approaches in Merauke, Papua. Furthermore, the research contributes to the advancement of theoretical discourse on multi-functional space, local wisdom, and transcendental meaning within the context of Papuan vernacular settlements.
