Abstract

The low level of science literacy and higher-order thinking skills among Indonesian students, as indicated by PISA results, necessitates more interactive and contextual learning innovations. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the SCCrT model assisted by Augmented Reality (AR) in improving students’ critical thinking, creative thinking, and science literacy in chemical bonding topics. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design involving 11th-grade students at SMAN 1 Alalak and SMAN 12 Banjarmasin. The research instruments consisted of critical thinking, creative thinking, and science literacy tests. The results showed that the experimental groups achieved higher average post-test scores than the control groups across all variables. In critical thinking, the scores were higher in the experimental classes (82.85 and 83.56) than in the control classes (75.00 and 74.00). Creative thinking scores were higher in the experimental classes (81.54 and 82.4) than in the control classes (73.85 and 72.72). Similarly, scientific literacy scores were higher in the experimental classes (81.79 and 83.71) than in the control classes (74.47 and 73.44). Independent sample t-tests indicated significant differences between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.05) with Cohen’s d values exceeding 0.78, indicating a substantial effect. Student observations and responses also revealed positive engagement during SCCrT–AR learning activities. In conclusion, the AR-assisted SCCrT model is effective in enhancing students’ critical and creative thinking, as well as their science literacy, and represents a promising alternative for chemistry learning in the digital era.

Abstract

This research was conducted to design and produce an electronic module (e-module) for CNC Programming that integrates a project-based learning (PjBL) approach with an immersive gamification strategy, optimized for use on Android-based devices. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) methodology, adopting the 4D framework consisting of the stages of define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data were obtained from expert validators, lecturers, and students to evaluate the e-module in terms of its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The validation results indicated that the e-module achieved excellent validity, with average scores of 0.917 for media quality and 0.950 for material quality. The practicality evaluation yielded ratings of 96.94% from lecturers and 91.90% from students, both categorized as very practical. The effectiveness test produced an N-Gain value of 0.69, which reflects a moderate improvement in students’ learning performance. Furthermore, the t-test analysis (Sig. 0.001 < 0.05; t-count 3.806 > t-table value) demonstrated a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Overall, the developed PjBL-based e-module with immersive gamification features was found to be valid, practical, and effective, serving as an interactive learning medium that fosters student engagement and aligns with 21st-century educational demands.

Abstract

Diagnosing these misconceptions in a crowded classroom context is very difficult, time-consuming, and subjective when using conventional methods, which often leads to ineffective teaching interventions. To address the urgent need for accurate and objective diagnosis, this article proposes and analyzes the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically Machine Learning (ML) technologies such as natural language processing (NLP). ML models can analyze student response data (essays) quickly and consistently, acting as science teacher assistants to strengthen diagnostic capabilities. This study uses a systematic literature review method to analyze and synthesize existing research findings regarding Artificial Intelligence as a Science Teacher's Assistant: An Analysis of the Utilization of Machine Learning in Diagnosing Student Misconceptions. This research aims to analyze and explain Artificial Intelligence as a Science Teacher's Assistant: An Analysis of the Utilization of Machine Learning in Diagnosing Student Misconceptions. The brief objectives of this study are as follows: to analyze the utilization of Machine Learning (ML) models in objectively diagnosing, categorizing, and predicting students' misconceptions in science. The findings of this review study indicate that student misconceptions are a persistent barrier to learning, and conventional (manual, paper-based) diagnostic methods have proven inefficient and subjective for crowded classrooms. This validates the urgent need for technological solutions.

Abstract

The surge in diverse teaching methods necessitates systematic evaluation of their effectiveness. This study evaluated student learning outcomes in three domains (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective) following the discovery learning implementation on the human digestive system material in Grade VIII at Nurul Iman Middle School Palembang. Using a mixed-method approach, 36 students were assessed through: (1) a 20-item multiple-choice posttest including literacy questions, (2) poster creation evaluated by three observers using five aspect rubrics, and (3) self-evaluation questionnaires covering communication, discipline, teamwork, and character. Results revealed suboptimal cognitive achievement, with only 47% meeting the minimum completion criteria (≥70), though students demonstrated strong performance on literacy questions (61-83% correct). Psychomotor skills averaged 74 (sufficient category), showing varied creative abilities in applying digestive health knowledge. Affective outcomes averaged 80 (good category), indicating positive attitude development. The discovery learning method effectively fostered literacy skills and affective development but requires instructional refinement to optimize conceptual understanding and application in the cognitive domain.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-supported meaningful learning into elementary social studies education in Indonesia, with a focus on enhancing students’ social skills and moral sensitivity. Grounded in qualitative research design, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers, and the analysis of learning activities in selected public elementary schools. Findings reveal that AI-based learning platforms such as adaptive discussion forums, collaborative digital projects, and interactive simulations encourage students to actively engage in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Moreover, AI-assisted scenarios that present moral dilemmas and provide reflective feedback foster students’ ability to recognize ethical values, practice empathy, and develop moral reasoning. The study highlights how AI can serve not merely as a technological tool, but as a pedagogical partner that enriches the value-laden nature of social studies. However, challenges such as limited digital infrastructure, uneven teacher readiness, and educational–cultural considerations in Indonesia remain significant barriers to sustainable implementation. Overall, the integration of AI-supported meaningful learning demonstrates promising potential to strengthen competency skills and moral awareness among young learners, while also offering insights for curriculum reform and policy development in the Indonesian context.

Abstract

This study examines the regulatory framework of Batam City’s independent electricity system as a foundation for the development of energy science and technology. Batam, as a Special Economic Zone, presents a unique case of localized energy governance that integrates legal, technological, and industrial perspectives. Using a qualitative normative–juridical approach, this research analyzes national and regional energy regulations, including Law No. 30 of 2009 on Electricity and Law No. 11 of 2020 on Job Creation, to evaluate their alignment with principles of innovation and sustainability. The research findings indicate that strong regulations supported by policy incentives, research investment, academic-industry collaboration, and optimal system digitalization are essential to promote the effectiveness and independence of Batam's electricity system. This analysis identifies three interrelated stages: (1) driving factors, which include regulation strength and research funding; (2) mediating processes, covering research efficiency and technology adoption; and (3) outcomes, represented by system capacity and technological innovation. This integrative model demonstrates that adaptive, science-based regulation transforms legal frameworks into instruments for innovation, bridging the gap between policy and technological implementation. Strengthening collaboration among legal institutions, research bodies, and industrial actors is essential to advance Batam as a national model for sustainable and knowledge-driven energy governance.

Abstract

Students with intellectual disabilities experience difficulties in understanding abstract concepts such as chemical equations and reaction balancing. This study aims to describe the learning profile and determine the learning outcomes of students with intellectual disabilities using E-LAPD based on Liveworksheet integrated with the Individualized Education Program (IEP). This research employed a mixed methods approach with an embedded design. Quantitative data were obtained from pre-test and post-test to measure the improvement in learning outcomes, while qualitative data were collected through students’ interviews after completing the E-LAPD using N-Vivo 11 to identify responses and challenges during the learning process. The research subjects consisted of three students with intellectual disabilities at SMAN 10 Surabaya. The results revealed that students experienced difficulties in understanding chemical symbols, connecting reactants and products, and balancing equations independently. The implementation of E-LAPD based on Liveworksheet, which provides visual support, step-by-step guidance, and interactive exercises, helped students better understand the process of reaction balancing. An improvement in learning outcomes was demonstrated by higher post-test scores in all subjects. In conclusion, the E-LAPD based on Liveworksheet has promising potential as an adaptive learning medium for students with intellectual disabilities, although further development is required regarding content refinement and learning assistance strategies.

Abstract

Creativity is a crucial competence in 21st-century science education; however, physics laboratory activities in higher education are still predominantly conducted using verification-based models, which provide limited opportunities for creative thinking development. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a Collaborative Problem-Solving Laboratory (CPSL) approach in enhancing the creativity of prospective physics teachers. The study employed a pre-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design involving 20 undergraduate students enrolled in a Basic Physics Practicum course. Students’ creativity was measured using an adapted Scientific Creativity Test encompassing fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Data were analyzed using the normalized gain (N-Gain) to determine the extent of improvement in each creativity indicator. The results revealed a substantial increase in students’ creativity after the implementation of CPSL. Three indicators—Unusual Uses, Problem Finding, and Product Improvement—achieved high N-Gain values (0.7–0.8), while Creative Imagination, Creative Experimental Ability, and Product Design showed moderate improvement (0.4–0.6). These findings indicate that integrating collaborative problem-solving processes throughout pre-laboratory, laboratory, and post-laboratory activities can effectively promote students’ creative thinking. It can be concluded that CPSL has the potential to transform physics laboratory practices from routine verification tasks into collaborative and creativity-oriented learning experiences.

Abstract

This study analyzes the ethnobotanical utilization of medicinal plants in West Sumatra based on the traditional Minangkabau territorial systems (Darek, Rantau, and Pesisir) and examines its implications for contextual science education. A mixed descriptive–quantitative ethnobotanical approach was employed involving 240 key informants (105 from Darek, 90 from Rantau, and 45 from Pesisir) selected through purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected using structured interviews, participatory observation, and species documentation. Quantitative ethnobotanical indices, including Use Value (UV) and Fidelity Level (FL), were applied. The results identified 38 medicinal plant species from 24 families. Curcuma longa (UV=0.88), Zingiber officinale (UV=0.84), and Tinospora crispa (UV=0.81) were the most culturally important species. High FL values were observed for Andrographis paniculata in fever treatment (92.1%) and Curcuma longa for digestive disorders (89.6%), indicating strong cultural reliability. The findings demonstrate that Minangkabau ethnobotanical knowledge is territorially structured, culturally transmitted, and empirically reliable. This study provides a scientific foundation for the development of ethnoscience-based science learning resources, supporting contextual learning, scientific literacy, and cultural preservation in Indonesian secondary education

Abstract

Black Garlic has great potential as a natural bioconservant, because of anti-microbial activity, anti-inflammation, anti-allergic, anti- diabetic, and anti-cancer. However, research on its application as a bioconservant for chicken meat, particularly against multi-drug-resistant pathogens (E. coli, Salmonella sp., and Staphylococcus aureus) remains limited. The potential benefits of combining black garlic application with cold storage are also underexplored. This study investigates the potential of Black Garlic (BG) extract as a natural bioconservant to preserves broiler chicken meat by inhibiting bacterial growth and maintaining sensory quality. A Randomized design was used with six treatments applied: control, sodium benzoate (0.1%), and BG extract at 5% ,10%, 15%, and 20%. The samples were marinated for 30 minutes, wrapped, and stored at ± 10°C  for seven days. Microbiological analysis showed that the 20% BG treatment effectively suppressed Salmonella to undetectable levels and significantly reduce E. Coli and Staphylococcus aureus, comparable to sodium benzoate. Lower concentrations were less effective, particularly against S. aureus. The measurements of pH indicated stabilization around 5.00-5.5 in BG-treated samples, with the 20% concentration exhibiting the strongest acidifying effect. Sensory evaluation by 26 panellists indicated that 15% BG improved the freshness of aroma but negatively affected color and texture at higher concentrations. Moisture content slightly increased in BG treatments, suggesting improved water retention. These findings demonstrate that black garlic extract, especially 15%-20%, can serve as a natural preservative for chicken. It is offer antibacterial protection while maintaining acceptable of sensory attributes. Moreover, the result highlights the potential of BG as a safer alternative to synthetic preservatives in the poultry industry.
