Abstract

The dynamics of Islamic politics in the era of globalization have become an increasingly relevant topic in light of worldwide social, economic, and technological changes. Globalization, with all its impacts, has influenced how Muslims perceive and practice politics, both at the local and international levels. This article aims to analyze how globalization affects the development of Islamic politics, including the challenges and opportunities that arise. The research method used is a literature study with a qualitative approach, gathering data from various sources such as journals, books, and related reports. The findings indicate that globalization has accelerated the exchange of ideas and values between the Islamic world and the West, creating polarization between modernization and conservatism in Islamic politics. On one hand, globalization promotes integration and intercultural dialogue, while on the other, it triggers resistance and efforts to preserve Islamic identity. This article also discusses how Islamic political actors, such as political parties and social movements, respond to the challenges of globalization with various strategies, ranging from adaptation to outright rejection. In conclusion, the dynamics of Islamic politics in the era of globalization reflect a complex interaction between tradition and modernity, requiring a deep understanding of both local and global contexts to formulate effective and inclusive policies.

Abstract

A legitimate government is formed through agreements between individuals in society to form a political community. The social contract theory initiated by Jean-Jacques Rousseau in his book states that humans do not only have individual wills, but there are common wills and interests to create a conducive situation. This research tries to examine the dynamics of the relationship between Islam and the Indonesian state within the framework of a legal perspective as an effort to maintain national unity. The approach used in this paper uses a descriptive method, which is combined with literature study as a data collection technique. The data is obtained from various literatures such as books, journals, as well as printed and digital sources of information that are considered relevant to explain the phenomenon that is the focus of this research. The dynamics of the position of Islamic law in Indonesia certainly changes over time until today, where Islamic law has its own sector and becomes a reference in the application of positive law in Indonesia. Muslims in Indonesia do not only have the interests of Islamic groups by prioritizing the application of Islamic law in Indonesia, but there is a spirit of togetherness with elements outside Islam to create peace and security in forming national unity. The social contract that occurs among Indonesian people is a factor that is quite influential in how the relationship between religion and the state in Indonesia at this time. This does not only happen in the legal field, but also in many aspects as an effect of the social contract that occurs.

Abstract

This article examines non-Muslim perspectives on Islam, focusing on Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic analysis of the Quran. Izutsu, a Japanese scholar, applied a linguistic approach to explore key Quranic concepts such as Allah, iman (faith), and kufr (disbelief), tracing their transformation from pre-Islamic contexts into Islam’s theocentric worldview. Through semantic analysis—involving the collection, comparison, and interpretation of words within conceptual fields—the study reveals how the Quran shapes dynamic value systems and ontology. The findings demonstrate Islam’s transformation of Arab societal paradigms from anthropocentric to Allah-centric, while affirming the Quran’s universal relevance as a guide for humanity. The article also evaluates Izutsu’s contributions to interdisciplinary religious studies, bridging Eastern philosophical sensitivity with Western methodologies. This semantic approach enriches the understanding of sacred texts and fosters cross-cultural and interreligious dialogue, highlighting the Quran’s adaptability to contemporary ethical and existential challenges. Abstract

Abstract

Keywords: Peta Pemikiran, Aktivis Mahasiswa, Gerakan Radikal Islam

Abstract

In the messianic theology of Abrahamic religions such as Christianity and Islam, there is a view that in the end times, there will be a battle between good and evil, each represented by certain eschatological figures. This paper discusses the Messiah, the eschatological figure representing good, and the false messiah, representing evil, from the perspectives of Christianity and Islam. It attempts to compare and analyze in depth the concepts of the Messiah and the false messiah from Christian and Islamic perspectives in terms of their sources and historicity. Explicitly, this paper explains who and what the characteristics of the Messiah and the false messiah are that will appear towards the end of times from Christian and Islamic viewpoints. The method used in this paper is library research with a descriptive-qualitative approach. The results of this paper include that both Christianity and Islam recognize Jesus Christ or Isa Al-Masih as the messianic figure who will come towards the end of times. However, in the Islamic perspective, there is another figure associated as the messiah, namely Imam Mahdi. As for the false messiah, there are differences where Christianity associates it with the Antichrist and Islam with Dajjal, each having different characteristics and features. Regarding the discourse on the false messiah in both Christianity and Islam, it is highly interpretative. However, one thing is certain, he is recognized as a great deceiver.

Abstract

Peter Donovan is an academic who writes about neutrality in the study of religion. Neutrality in the study of religion can be interpreted as an attempt to understand another person's religion from the perspective of neutrality, and use the preferences of the person concerned to try to carry out reconstruction in and according to the other person's experience. This article aims to provide an understanding regarding the neutrality required in the study of religion and its relation to the field of religious politics. The method used in this research is library research. According to Donovan, there are three forms of neutrality in the study of religion, namely observer neutrality (researcher neutrality), participant neutrality (neutral participants), and role neutrality (neutral role). Peter Donovan defines neutrality in the study of religion as an effort to maintain an open, detached, objective, impartial, non-partisan and independent perspective in studying religion. Neutrality is necessary so that scholars can understand and appreciate the diversity of religious traditions and avoid imposing their own beliefs or values on the subject of their study. Keywords: Neutrality, Religious Studies, Politics

Abstract

The 2019 Presidential Election in Indonesia was considered highly tense and had the potential to trigger conflicts among fellow countrymen. The argumentation involves two crucial aspects. Firstly, with only two pairs of candidates, namely Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin and Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno, it led to a division among Indonesian voters due to the lack of alternative choices. Secondly, religious identity politics played a strong role in the 2019 Presidential Election campaign, deemed capable of threatening national unity. This paper analyzes the practice of identity politics in the 2019 Presidential Election using identity theory. The research highlights the social history of Islam and the politics of identity developed by Islamic political parties in the Paciran Sub-district, Lamongan. Additionally, the study also explores the political identity contestation within Islamic political parties in competing for Muslim voters in the sub-district. The results indicate that a long history of identity struggles has occurred in Paciran Village, and this ongoing contest is produced by community agents and structures to win candidates through arguments of shared identity, facilitating voter mobilization on behalf of the same identity. Abstract

The Surabaya City Government successfully curtailed prostitution activities by closing down red-light districts such as Dupak Bangunsari/Kremil and Dolly. However, these closures have left several issues for former sex workers still residing in these areas. In this context, Muhammadiyah Surabaya plays a key role in the guidance and empowerment of former sex workers. This research reveals the community preaching strategies of Muhammadiyah, including enhancing faith, providing entrepreneurial skills, intensive preaching in areas still practicing prostitution, micro-economic development, health counseling for those affected by sexually transmitted diseases, repurposing former prostitution locations, and psychological support through counseling. These strategies aim to provide sustained reinforcement and guidance to former sex workers, addressing their vulnerable and weakened psychological, sociological, and economic conditions post-closure. A qualitative approach is employed in this research through observation, interviews, and literature review. The research findings indicate Muhammadiyah's success in providing holistic support to former sex workers, imparting skills and knowledge, and assisting them in developing micro-economies to enhance their well-being.
