Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study was designed to investigate whether Intrinsic Motivation (IM) related to the creative production on solving real problems that measured based on two criteria: novelty and appropriateness. 10th-grade students in Oman represented by 367 students (male and female) from eight schools (rural and urban) were the sample of the study. Work Preference Inventory from T.M. Amabile, B. Hennessy and E. Tighe (1994) was manipulated to assess intrinsic motivation. Problem-Solving Test (PST) developed by researchers was used to measure creative production on solving real problems through content contexts of subjects such as Arabic Language, Social Studies, and Science. Findings showed that IM correlated positively with novelty and appropriateness. MANOVA test showed that main effect of school type was significant for novelty and appropriateness, but gender was not. Analysis of simultaneous regression indicated that intrinsic motivation and gender predicted the total score of problem solving test, but school type was not. The implications of the study enhance our understanding of the intrinsic motivation as a personality trait on developing creativity among school students.Key words: Intrinsic motivation, creative production, solving real problems, novelty and appropriateness, and students in Oman.  About the Authors: Assoc. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The progress of science, technology, and information carries serious implications for the existence of regional culture in Indonesia. The process of globalization has also promoted culture in the world becomes one-dimensional and monolithic, which in turn will reduce the national identity and also negates the local culture. In this context, “Nyadran” is one form of traditional ceremonies and local culture to be preserved, because it contains the values of social, cultural, and local knowledge; and serves as a social capital that can unite people from the process of social disintegration. This research aims to inventory the important aspects of one of the regional culture, the traditional ceremony of “Nyadran”. In addition, this study also aims to analyze the values of socio-cultural of traditional ceremonies of “Nyadran”. This study used qualitative methods, with data collection techniques are observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative with ethnographic approach. The results showed that the traditional ceremony of “Nyadran” is a heritage of the indigenous Javanese culture, which is influenced by Hindu culture and Islamic religion. The traditional ceremony of “Nyadran” has had the values of socio-cultural, inter alia: religious values, values of mutual assistance, tolerance, unity value, the value of struggle, the value of respect for the environment, and the value of cooperation. Because of that, traditional ceremony of “Nyadran” should be preserved and developed.KEY WORD: Globalization; Socio and Cultural Values; Ceremony of Nyadran; Local Wisdom; Social Integration. RESUME: “Nilai-nilai Sosial-Budaya dalam Upacara Tradisional Nyadran di Tawun, Ngawi, Jawa Timur, Indonesia”. Kemajuan sains, teknologi, dan informasi membawa dampak yang sangat serius bagi eksistensi kebudayaan daerah di Indonesia. Proses globalisasi juga telah mendorong kebudayaan di dunia menjadi berdimensi tunggal dan monolitik, yang pada gilirannya akan mereduksi identitas nasional dan menegasikan pula keragaman budaya lokal. Dalam konteks ini, Nyadran merupakan salah satu bentuk upacara adat dan budaya lokal yang perlu dilestarikan, karena mengandung nilai-nilai sosial, kultural, dan kearifan lokal; serta berfungsi sebagai modal sosial yang dapat mempersatukan masyarakat dari proses disintegrasi sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan menginventarisir aspek-aspek penting dari salah satu kebudayaan daerah, yakni upacara adat Nyadran. Disamping itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk menganalisis nilai-nilai sosio-kultural dari upacara adat Nyadran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Teknik analisis yang digunakan ialah deskriptif-kualitatif, dengan pendekatan etnografik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa upacara adat Nyadran merupakan warisan nenek moyang yang merupakan budaya Jawa asli, yang dipengaruhi oleh budaya Hindu dan agama Islam. Upacara adat Nyadran mempunyai nilai-nilai sosio-kultural, antara lain: nilai religius, nilai gotong-royong, nilai toleransi, nilai persatuan-kesatuan, nilai perjuangan, nilai penghargaan terhadap lingkungan, dan nilai kerjasama. Abstract

RESUME: Perkhidmatan kaunseling haruslah dikendalikan dengan penuh tanggungjawab demi memastikan perkhidmatan yang ditawarkan dapat membantu klien. Justru, kaunseling brief adalah pendekatan kaunseling pasca moden yang merupakan suatu alternatif kepada kaunselor dalam mengendalikan sesi kaunseling. Kajian ini bertujuan meneroka fokus, kekuatan, dan cabaran kaunseling brief dari perspektif pelajar kaunseling. Disamping itu, kajian turut mengenal pasti kesediaan pelajar kaunseling untuk mengikuti latihan kaunseling brief. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 33 orang pelajar kaunseling di sebuah IPTA (Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam). Pentadbiran soal selidik terbuka dilaksanakan bagi memperoleh data kajian. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis kandungan (content analysis). Dapatan menunjukkan bahawa majoriti sampel memilih kaunseling brief berfokuskan penyelesaian sebagai pilihan berbanding berfokuskan masalah. Disamping itu, majoriti sampel berpandangan bahawa kaunseling brief adalah suatu pendekatan yang cepat, efektif, dan berarah kepada penyelesaian. Walau bagaimanapun, isu berkaitan penggunaan soalan yang banyak kepada klien merupakan suatu cabaran bagi sampel kajian. Namun keseluruhan sampel kajian bersedia untuk mengikuti latihan kaunseling brief sekiranya dianjurkan.   KATA KUNCI: Kaunseling brief, fokus penyelesaian, pendekatan kaunseling pasca moden, serta kaunselor dan pelajar kaunseling. ABSTRACT: This article entitled “Strength and Challenges of Brief Counseling from Perspectives among Counseling Program Students”. Counseling services should be handled with the utmost responsibility to ensure that the offered services could help clients. Hence, brief counseling is a post-modern counseling approach as an alternative to the counselors in conducting counseling sessions. This study aims to explore the focus, strengths, and challenges in the brief counseling from students’ perspective. A part of that, the study also identified the willingness of counseling student to attend the brief counseling training. The sample consisted of 33 counseling students in a Public Higher Education Institution. A set of open-ended questionnaire was administered in order to obtain the data. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and content analysis. The findings showed that the majority of sample chose solution focused compared to problem focused. The findings also revealed that the majority of the sample viewed brief counseling as a fast, effective, and solution oriented approach. However, the issue of too many questions being employed in the session towards the clients seems to be challenge to them. Overall, majority of sample in the study are willing to attend the brief counseling training. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Tidak dapat dinafikan bahawa negara-negara kecil ataupun negara-negara yang sedang membangun, terutamanya di rantau Asia, Afrika dan Amerika Latin, berhadapan dengan cabaran di pentas politik antarabangsa. Cabaran tersebut adalah pelbagai, sama ada berbentuk persaingan antara Amerika Syarikat dan bekas Soviet Union semasa era Perang Dingin, jurang perbezaan ekonomi antara negara maju dan negara mundur, pertentangan fahaman antara agama dan ideologi sekular, dan lain-lain lagi. Untuk menghadapi semua cabaran ini, negara-negara kecil bersatupadu membentuk beberapa buah organisasi yang dianggap mampu menjaga kepentingan mereka di dalam sistem politik antarabangsa. Ini termasuklah Non-Aligned Movement, Group of 77 dan Pertubuhan Islam Sedunia (OIC). Dengan tertubuhnya organisasi negara-negara kecil ini juga adalah diharapkan hubungan antara mereka bertambah erat dan makmur. Bagi menganalisis persoalan ini, kami akan lebih memfokus bagaimana keahlian Malaysia dan Arab Saudi dalam Pertubuhan Islam Sedunia (OIC) berupaya menjaga kepentingan kedua-dua buah negara dan juga sejauhmana keanggotaan tersebut telah meningkatkan lagi hubungan antara mereka di pentas politik antarabangsa.Kata-kata kunci: negara-negara sedang membangun, cabaran politik antarabangsa, serta hubungan Malaysia dan Arab Saudi dalam pertubuhan OIC.    About the Authors: Asmady Idris, Ph.D. is a Lecturer and the Dean at School of Social Sciences, Malaysia University of Sabah (UMS). Abstract

ABSTRACT: The Council Regulation on the protection of animals during killing, No.1099/2009, came to apply from 1st January 2013 onwards. This regulation lays down rules for the killing of animals bred for the production of food, wool, fur, or other products as well as the killing of animals for the purpose of depopulation and for related operations. The Council Regulation also emphasizes the meaning of education, competence, and self-monitoring as means to improve the welfare of animals during killing. It encourages the making of guides to good practice in order to help business operator to plan and monitor the killing process accordingly. The Code of Good Practice (CGP) in humane killing of foxes is created for that purpose. The present CGP aims at providing the highest standards of welfare for farmed foxes (Blue fox Vulpes lagopus, Silver fox Vulpes vulpes, and their colour variants and crossings) in killing. The regulation states many acceptable killing methods for foxes. The key aspects and parameters affecting the humanity of killing of those methods are presented in CGP. However, more practical and detailed description of killing is given for the most used killing method – electrocution. As well as describes the key parameters, the CGP also gives examples of how and why these parameters are to be monitored. According to Council Regulation, all business operators are obligated to plan the killing procedures ahead by drawing up a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The CGP gives practical instructions for planning the content of SOP and examples of how the carrying out of SOP should be reported. KEY WORD: Council Regulation, protection of animals, guides to good practice, humane killing of foxes, standard operating procedure, and monitoring. RESUME: “Pembunuhan Perlahan Manusiawi pada Rubah yang Diternak”. Peraturan Dewan tentang perlindungan hewan selama pembunuhan, No.1099 / 2009, mulai berlaku dari 1 Januari 2013 ke depan. Peraturan ini menetapkan aturan pembunuhan hewan yang diternak untuk produksi makanan, wol, bulu, atau produk lainnya serta pembunuhan hewan untuk tujuan pengurangan jumlah dan operasi hewan berkenaan. Peraturan Dewan juga menekankan arti pentingnya pendidikan, kompetensi, dan pengawasan-diri sebagai sarana untuk meningkatkan kebaikan bagi hewan saat dibunuh. Hal ini mendorong pembuatan Petunjuk Praktek yang Baik (PPyB) dalam rangka membantu pelaksana lapangan dalam merancang dan memantau proses pembunuhan yang sesuai. PPyB dalam pembunuhan perlahan manusiawi pada rubah dibuat untuk tujuan tersebut. Keberadaan petunjuk itu bertujuan untuk memberikan standar yang tinggi bagi kebaikan rubah yang diternak (rubah berkulit biru “vulpes lagopus”, rubah berkulit perak “vulpes fox”, serta rubah dengan kulit belang dan warna-warni) saat dibunuh. Peraturan tersebut menyatakan bahwa banyak metode pembunuhan yang layak bagi rubah. Aspek dan parameter utama yang mempengaruhi metode pembunuhan manusiawi tersaji dalam PPyB tersebut. Namun, penjelasan yang lebih praktis dan rinci tentang pembunuhan diberikan untuk metode pembunuhan yang paling sering digunakan, yaitu disetrum listrik. Selain menjelaskan parameter utama, PPyB juga memberikan contoh tentang bagaimana dan mengapa parameter ini harus diawasi. Menurut Peraturan Dewan, semua pelaksana lapangan diwajibkan untuk merancang prosedur pembunuhan ke depan dengan menyusun Prosedur Pelaksanaan Baku (SOP). Abstract

ABSTRAK: Kertas kerja ini mengkaji mengenai usaha-usaha yang telah dilakukan dalam program resosialisai kanak-kanak jalanan dan masalah-masalah apa yang dihadapi oleh pihak rumah singggah dalam menjalankan program resosialisasi. Untuk menjawap soalan di atas diadakan penyelidikan dengan kaedah kualitatif dengan menggunakan instrumen protokol temubual dan senerai semak pemerhatian. Populasi dan sampel kajian ini dipilih dari 20 rumah singgah di bandar Bandung, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Kaedah persampelan yang digunakan ialah ”purposife sampling”, yakni dengan menentukan sampel sesuai dengan tujuan penyelidikan iaitu sampel temu bual pula n = 3 (pentadbir, tutor dan kanak-kanak jalanan) dipilih dari rumah singgah berlainan yang terdiri dari rumah singgah milik kerajaan dan NGO (Non Governmental Organization). Kajian ini mendapati bahawa program resosialisasi kanak-kanak jalanan di rumah singgah-rumah singgah di bandar Bandung masih terdapat beberapa kelemahan yang harus diatasi. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The research is a comparative study of the English language performance among Islamic studies or Education students in the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Science (KIRKHS) and the Institute of Education (INSTED). The main aim of the research is to observe how the undergraduate students perform in the English language and to examine the standard of English language performance for both kulliyahs. The respondents of this study were taken from the Kulliyyah of IRKHS and the INSTED, both at the IIUM (International Islamic University of Malaysia). According to the figures obtained from the Centre for Languages and Pre-university Academic Development (CELPAD) of the IIUM, it was revealed that many of Islamic studies students were dubbed poor performers in English language. Evidently, the average scores for English language courses were C plus and C as shown by the statistics from CELPAD. The result of study shows that the majority of the respondents considered themselves as competent in terms of English language as compared to other languages, and they indicated that their English competence was mostly sufficient for their academic activities. And finally, the respondents indicated that they would like to improve their English language competence. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Mass media can expand the horizons of thought and build sympathy, concentrating development goals so as to create a harmonious atmosphere, and effective development. The mass media has also the task social change in society, namely: (1) Expanding to horizon of view; (2) Focusing to public with messages written; (3) Rising the aspirations; and (4) Creating an atmosphere to build media. Mass media is often viewed as an effective instrument power for its ability to perform one or more several things such as: attracting and directing attention, persuade opinion and perception, affect the choice attitude, given the status and legitimacy, and define and shape reality perceptions. It is desirable once a mass media that serves as a counterweight, reformer, and herald of truth. This study tries to answer about the neutrality of the news stories related to socio-political issues. This study uses qualitative methods through a descriptive approach, observation, depth interviews, and literature study. The research results showed that the mass media about the social politics still less yet neutral. The results also showed that the news of media is still less yet neutral, exaggerating the problem, not provide solutions, and sometimes just give the sensation itself.KEY WORD: New media, news and views, communication, neutral, creative, provide solutions, and new changes. IKHTISAR: Media massa dapat memperluas cakrawala pemikiran dan membangun simpati, memusatkan tujuan pembangunan sehingga tercipta suasana yang harmonis, dan pembangunan yang efektif. Media massa juga memiliki tugas perubahan sosial di masyarakat, yaitu: (1) Memperluas  cakrawala sudut pandang; (2) Fokus kepada public melalui pesan tertulis; (3) Meningkatkan aspirasi; dan (4) Menciptakan suasana dalam membangun media. Media massa sering dipandang sebagai kekuatan instrumen yang efektif karena kemampuannya dalam satu dan banyak hal untuk menarik dan mengarahkan perhatian, membujuk pendapat dan persepsi, mempengaruhi sikap pilihan, memberi status dan legitimasi, serta mendefinisikan dan membentuk persepsi realitas. Media juga diharapkan berfungsi sebagai penyeimbang, pembaharu, dan memberitakan kebenaran. Penelitian ini mencoba menjawab tentang netralitas berita media terkait dengan isu-isu sosial-politik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberitaan media massa tentang sosial-politik masih belum netral. Abstract

RESUME: Kurikulum merupakan salah sebuah komponen yang sangat menentukan dalam satu sistem pendidikan, kerana kurikulum merupakan alat untuk mencapai matlamat pendidikan dan sebagai petunjuk perlaksanaan pengajaran dan pembelajaran pada semua peringkat pendidikan. Sistem pendidikan di Indonesia, dimulakan tahun 2006, telah menjalankan satu model kurikulum dengan apa yang dikenali sebagai KTSP (Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan). Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti orientasi kurikulum dan konsepsi pengajaran Fizik berasaskan pengalaman mengajar dan kelayakan akademik. Satu set soal selidik digunakan untuk mengumpulkan maklumat mengenai orientasi kurikulum dan konsepsi pengajaran dari sampel sebanyak 101 guru Fizik SMAN (Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri) di Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia. Dapatan kajian yang diperoleh melalui min dan analisis ANOVA dengan menggunakan SPSS 17. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap orientasi kurikulum daripada guru dengan pengalaman mengajar lebih 15 tahun diperolehi paling tinggi dan tahap konsepsi pengajaran pula diperolehi tinggi. Kajian ini juga mendapati bahwa wujud perbezaan yang signifikan antara tahap orientasi kurikulum pengajaran Fizik berasaskan pengalaman mengajar, tetapi tidak dengan kelayakan akademik; serta wujud pula perbezaan yang signifikan antara tahap konsepsi pengajaran Fizik berasaskan pengalaman mengajar, tetapi tidak dengan kelayakan akademik. KATA KUNCI: Model kurikulum, subjek Fizik, guru sekolah menengah, pengalaman mengajar, kelayakan akademik, dan keberkesanan pendidikan. ABSTRACT: “Curriculum Orientation and Conception of Effective Teaching the Physics in the School-Based Curriculum”. Curriculum is one of the crucial components in the education system, because the curriculum is a tool to achieve educational goals and as an indicator of teaching and learning at all levels of education. The education system in Indonesia, initiated in 2006, has carried out a model curriculum to what is known as KTSP (School-Based Curriculum). This study aims to identify the curriculum orientation and the teaching conception of Physics based on the teaching experience and academic qualifications. A questionnaire was used to collect information about the orientation of the curriculum and teaching conception of a sample of 101 teachers of Physics at SMAN (Public Senior High School) in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The results obtained by the mean and ANOVA analysis using SPSS 17. Findings showed that the curriculum orientation of teachers with teaching experience over 15 years is earned highest and the level of teaching conception also involved high.
