Abstract

This research aims to find out the role of media relations in forming positive news on printed media by having a special page for Salatiga news as research focus. This research is a qualitative research by using qualitative descriptive approach. Observation, interview, document collection and photo activities are used to collect data. The result indicates that informal media relations activities are more effective to create positive news about Salatiga government in printed media because it can build good relation between Public Relations practitioners and journalists.

Abstract

The relations between Indonesia and Malaysia are always full of colors. Indonesia and Malaysia are assumed as neighbour since it has similar history, religion also socio culturally. Some decades show that the decline of relationship the both countries. Another time, as ASEAN members the two countries devotes their nationalities to purify their collective identities as Eastern. The objective of the research is to extricate the construction of Kompas online toward news coverage of the borders dispute between Indonesia-Malaysia in 2010. This research is proposed to examine central issues which reported by Kompas online consistently. As a media industry, Kompas coverage dominates circulation nationally. Kompas was the pioneer of online news in Indonesia and born in reformation era. The method used in this research is framing method by Robert N. Entman’s which consist of four steps identification : defining problem, diagnosing causes, moral judgement and a treatment recommendation. This research found that Kompas news covered the border dispute must be negotiated as recognition of Indonesia dignity.

Abstract

This research is conducted to determine the construction of public service news in ‘Sumut Dalam Berita’ program aired on TVRI North Sumatera. With the phenomenological approach, this research used Theories of Influences on Mass Media Content by Pamela J. Shoemaker and Stephen D. Reese. This study conducted an in-depth interview with an internal level of TVRI North Sumatera that is managerial level and the external party who cooperate with TVRI that is North Sumatera Provincial Government.  The results show that : (1) public service news is being a part of the cooperation between TVRI North Sumatera and the Provincial Government. TVRI also receive funds from local budgets for operations activities, (2) each level of the influence of media content starting from individual level to ideological level contributes to public service news production in ‘Sumut Dalam Berita.’ Sometimes there are overlaping between the ideal and practical concepts experienced by the journalist in delivering public information to the public. The contribution of this research is to give insight to journalists and editors on how to produce news, especially on public services without ignoring news value.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze representation of heroism value in the Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga’hoole movie by using dramatism theory as the main theory and pentad analysis as a method. The results showed that the representation of the heroism value in the Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga’Hoole movie indicated by drawing the five elements pentad consist of, act always includes scenes battle to save his kingdom. Scene is indicated by the use low key lighting concept to give the impression of dramatic, suspenseful and gripping the battle scenes in the movie. Agent illustrated with heroic character, never give up, willing to sacrifice, to protect the weak and defend the truth which is represented through the character Soren, Digger, Twillight, Gylfie and the Guardians. Agency displayed using war and believe gizzard activity in achieving a specific goal, and the last purpose shown by figures eradicate evil creatures in order to save the oppressed and restore peace to the kingdom of owls are great Ga’Hoole tree.

Abstract

This article discussed the history of the entertainment magazines in Indonesia. By using the historiography method, this paper interpreted the dynamics of entertainment magazines from its birth until gradually being run over by market competition that coupled with women magazines, television, and pornography. This article also highlighted Sukarno's Political Manifesto in the practice of entertainment magazines during the Guided Democracy era. Entertainment Magazine became an instrument for the dissemination of political jargon through Kebaya. It constructed as a national identity to obstruct western ideology and culture while female sexuality that displayed feminine and sexy in kebaya were objectified through the male gaze.

Abstract

The theoritical analysis is inspired by the labor riot occurred in Drydocks World Graha Shipyards Company in Batam April 22, 2010. This case has reminded us to consider the importance of diversity management for business organization. Such organization has a reality of cultural diversity in its employees and usually it is a multinational company. Such company has grown and expanded in accordance with the development of the global economic order. The reality of cultural diversity actually can be positive forces to sustain the dynamics of the organization, but if not properly managed it can make the negative impact of disadvantageous communication climate. It can enrich the communication climate practices of racism and discrimination. The goal of diversity management is to maximize the positive forces of cultural diversity and to minimize its negative impacts. Management of diversity is itself a way of managing an organization that requires the multicultural paradigm. Inter-group conflict management is an integral part of the management of diversity. At the group level, it is necessary to understand the factors of inter-group conflict. When the conflict as the adverse effect of cultural diversity occurs, that is needed is a constructive management. Parties who have a burden of adaptation should be accommodative to other parties. Accommodation is conducted in the way of viewing the conflict, attitudes, and management style. It is also needs to be developed a communication climate that may reduce the prejudices which is the source of the practices of racism and discrimination.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ethnic group or tribe is a group of people whose members identify themselves with one another, usually based on lineage are considered the same as culture, language, religion traits, behaviors, or biological. Ethnicity is a fundamental factor in human life, interactions and intrinsic property of a group. The method of research used content analysis approaches and ethnographic art. The results showed determination by mixing or races as “Peranakan”: for a mixture of Malay race with China, people who are determined according to their religion, for Malays in Malaysia it meant that the Muslim bumiputera, “the Mestis” for Hispanic mix by bumiputera. Upin Ipin-released on September 14, 2010 in Malaysia and produced by Les’ Copaque. The results of this study show Upin-Ipin filled with simplicity in bringing Islamic values, education, manners, and respect among fellow was meant for all people of good Malaysian nation or religion. Good relations between different cultures (Malay, Chinese, Indian) were described in this animated film. Upin-Ipin animated movie brings the perfect image and message, ie, with different cultures can create a good relationship with the harmony of differences in unity and simplicity.

Abstract

Dissemination of information through social media is prone to high school students because of its high social media usage activities. Students need to have propaganda awareness (awareness of the existence of propaganda practices), which is mainly disseminated through news or other media content. By having propaganda awareness, students can analyze information or news, so they can sift essential information, including information that they wish to redistribute. This research used a mixed method. The data was collected with a focus group discussion and propaganda test to students of State Madrasah Aliyah (MAN) in the Yogyakarta Special Province. The result of the propaganda test before the simulation showed the strong influence of the media on student attitudes. After simulation and retesting, the effect decreased significantly. Propaganda awareness can be a provision for students to be more alert in filtering information from social media that contain radicalism.

Abstract

Development of tourism program is basically done as an effort to support income sources. Policy of tourism is a key factor in its. Facts showed that the policy has not been fully align ed to the local societies. Commodification of religious ceremony is a form of marketing process undertaken to attract tourists. Critical theory approach is used which the implications can be explored through the political economy perspective in the case studies. The results showed that policies of tourism lead to economic political activities in the form of commodification of religious ceremony. Hindu’s communities as an “object” of tourism policy implementation.
