Abstract

Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death in children under five in the world. Every year at least 1.7 million cases of diarrhea in children occur. This study was conducted to determine the factors associated with the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the Central Indonesia region. This study uses data from IFLS 5 in 2014. The sample of this study was toddlers aged 6-59 months in the provinces of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi. The research design used was cross-sectional with a sample size of 1079 toddlers. It is known that 16.8% of children under five in Central Indonesia experience diarrhea, with the largest percentage being 17.75% in West Nusa Tenggara. Based on the results of the multivariate test, it was found that age (p-value: <0.001), gender (p-value: <0.003), and household waste management (p-value: <0.017) were associated with diarrhea. Age is the dominant factor in the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in Central Indonesia (OR: 2.421, 95% CI = 1.739-3.370), meaning that children aged 6-23 months have a 2.4 times risk of suffering from diarrhea. This is due to the reduced immunity of the child obtained from the mother, increased growth and development of the child, and the start of weaning at that age. Strengthening understanding and commitment to implementing PIS-PK is needed to provide health information related to the prevention and treatment of diarrhea conveyed by an approach to families of children under five, thereby raising health awareness starting from the family.

Abstract

The increasing intensity of gadget use in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic impacts increasing eye fatigue complaints in students. This study analyzes the relationship between gadget use and eye fatigue complaints in college students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design involving a sample of 171 students of the Public Health Study Program of the University of Prima Indonesia. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with inclusion criteria, namely, students in semester 2 to semester 8. The data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression tests. The results of statistical tests using the Chi-Square test showed that a history of eye disease (0.000), the type of gadget used (0.000), the position of using the gadget (0.020), the distance of using the gadget (0.000), and the duration of using the gadget (0.000) were associated with complaints of fatigue. eye. Age (0.325) and gender (0.973) had no significant effect. This study concludes that a history of eye disease, more than 1 type of gadget use, long-term use of gadgets, poor body position, and too close a distance are triggers for eye fatigue complaints. The most dominant factor in this study was the use of more than 1 type of gadget (p= 0.001; PR= 0.098, 95%CI = 0.025 – 0.381). To reduce the negative effects of using gadgets for a long time, students are expected to rest regularly and adjust the position and distance of the gadget screen.

Abstract

Although the achievement of the Modern Contraceptive Prevelance Rate in Indonesia is high, unmet need is still a target that has not been in accordance with the target that has been set. This still shows the low use of contraceptives by women of childbearing age. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with the use of contraception. A cross sectional study was conducted from January to February 2022 in Sewon District, Bantul Regency. Data were collected using a questionnaire on 116 women of childbearing age who have children and have WhatsApp media. The sample size was calculated using the Raosoft Sample Size Calculator software with a 95% confidence level from 165 women of childbearing age. By using path analysis, it can be seen that perceived threat perception has a direct effect on contraceptive use behavior (b=1.26, 95% CI= 0.48 to 2.05, p=0.001). Perception of seriousness had an indirect effect on contraceptive use through perceived threat perception (b=2.14, 95% CI=1.12 to 3.15, p<0.001). Perceived severity had an indirect effect on contraceptive use through perceived threat perception (b=1.98, 95% CI=.93 to 3.04, p<0.001). Initiatives are needed to improve contraceptive use behavior. Furthermore, these findings can be considered in the formulation of health care policies to overcome problems that hinder the use of contraception by women of childbearing age.
