Abstract

The dengue virus that causes dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is spread by the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between physical conditions of the home and behavior with the incidence of dengue fever. This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional research design. Data collection was conducted from May to June 2024. The population in this study was all residents in the Sei Langkai Community Health Center Working Area in 2024. In this study, there were 183 respondents using questionnaires and observation sheets conducted through interviews and observations. The sampling technique in the study used simple random sampling. The statistical test used was the chi-square test. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately. The results of this study indicate a relationship between ventilation with wire mesh (p value = 0.046) and water reservoirs (p value = 0.046) with the incidence of dengue fever. Meanwhile, room lighting (p value = 0.814), residential density (p value = 0.063), the habit of hanging clothes (p value = 0.063) and the habit of using anti-mosquito lotion (p value = 0.249) are not related to the incidence of dengue fever. The conclusion of the study of the physical condition of the house (ventilation with wire mesh) and breeding places (water reservoirs) has a significant relationship with the incidence of DHF in the Sei Langkai Community Health Center Work Area in 2024. Suggestions to the community are to always clean places that can hold water by implementing 3M Plus covering, draining and burying and recycling.

Abstract

The double burden in the development of Indonesia’s health sector consists of communicable diseases and degenerative diseases. Communicable diseases are difficult to eradicate because their transmission is not limited by administrative boundaries. One of the most cost-effective preventive measures to limit the spread of diseases to other regions is immunization. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of an immunization education intervention on mothers’ knowledge regarding complete basic immunization in Lubuk Siam Village. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test–post-test method. The study population consisted of 152 mothers with children under five, from which 30 respondents were selected as the sample. The results showed a significant difference in knowledge between pre-test and post-test scores, with a statistical test result of p = 0.015. The Wilcoxon test indicated that the educational intervention was effective in improving mothers’ knowledge about complete basic immunization. It is recommended that Lubuk Siam Village integrate immunization education into routine posyandu (integrated health post) programs and involve community leaders as well as local government in supporting the sustainability of the immunization program.

Abstract

Dengue fever (DF) is a significant global health burden with steadily increasing incidence, especially in Indonesia, which reported 88.593 cases from January until May 2024. School-aged children constitute a key population, as the school environment effective setting for implementing prevention and control programs. This systematic review aims to compare the effectiveness of video-based education with conventional teaching methods in improving knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices (KAP) related to dengue fever among school children. The review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, with searches performed across seven major databases between March and April 2025. Inclusion criteria were developed using the PICO framework, encompassing quantitative studies involving children aged 12–15 years who received video-based dengue prevention education. Seven studies met the criteria, comprising seven quasi-experimental designs, all of which were appraised using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist. The findings demonstrate that video-based educational interventions consistently improve children’s KAP regarding dengue prevention. These results provide an important foundation for community health nursing practice, highlighting the potential of video media as an effective educational tool in dengue prevention efforts. Future research should employ cluster RCT designs with extended follow-up periods and objective behavioral measurements to capture sustained behavioral change. The application of theoretical frameworks, such as the Health Promotion Model, should be emphasized to clarify the mechanisms underlying behavior change. Multisite studies that incorporate social support from teachers, parents, and peers are also needed to enhance the generalizability and sustainability of dengue prevention interventions.

Abstract

Produced water is the main waste generated from oil and gas exploration and production activities, containing hazardous organic and inorganic compounds such as phenol, ammonia, sulfide, as well as oil and grease, which have the potential to pollute the environment and pose risks to occupational health and safety (OHS), particularly from exposure to H₂S and ammonia gases. This study employed an experimental design through laboratory testing and pilot-plant simulation, comprising aeration, coagulation–flocculation, biological aeration, and filtration processes at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of PT XYZ in Indramayu. Samples were collected from the WWTP inlet and outlet using the composite sampling method over a four-month period (April–August 2025), totaling 153 samples with triplicate tests for each parameter, including temperature, pH, oil and grease, COD, phenol, sulfide, and ammonia, in accordance with APHA (2017) standards. The results showed that the hybrid system reduced oil and grease, COD, phenol, and ammonia by more than 80%, and sulfide by more than 70%, indicating that the effluent met the quality standards set by the Ministry of Environment Regulation No. 19 of 2010. The application of hybrid technology proved to be technically effective, operationally safe, and contributed to mitigating OHS risks and supporting environmental sustainability in the upstream oil and gas industry. Further research is recommended to focus on a more detailed analysis of additional parameters such as heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cd) and organic micro-pollutants to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the system’s effectiveness and potential environmental impacts.

Abstract

Family planning is a strategic effort to suppress population growth and improve maternal and child health. One of the contraceptive methods widely used in Indonesia is the 3-month injection. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the duration of use and the return of fertility in 3-month injection contraceptive acceptors. This type of research is a quantitative study using a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was 42,644 acceptors of the 3-month injection contraceptive at community health centers in Gowa Regency. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling according to certain considerations with a sample size of 221 respondents. Data analysis techniques were univariate and bivariate. The results of this study indicate that the duration of use of the 3-month injection contraceptive with the return of fertility, namely with the duration of use of the 3-month injection in the long category, 32 people (14.47%) had a fast return of fertility and 83 people (37.55%) had a slow return of fertility. In the category of recent use of 3-month injectable contraceptives, 47 people (21.26%) and 59 people (26.69%) experienced a slow return to fertility. Based on the results of statistical analysis using the SPSS 21 program using the Chi-square statistical test, the Sig value was obtained = 0.008 < 0.05. It can be concluded that the HO hypothesis is rejected, indicating a relationship between the duration of 3-month injectable contraceptive use and the return of fertility. In conclusion, there is a relationship between the duration of 3-month injectable contraceptive use and the return of fertility.

Abstract

Cognitive impairment and difficulties in social interaction are frequent challenges among post-stroke patients, often hindering the rehabilitation process. The board game Codenames, which incorporates word-association strategies and team-based cooperation, offers a simple intervention to stimulate cognitive abilities while fostering social engagement. This study investigated the effectiveness of Codenames in improving cognitive function and social interaction among post-stroke patients. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group was employed, involving 50 participants divided into an intervention group (n = 25) and a control group (n = 25). Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment–Indonesia (MoCA-Ina), while social interaction was measured with the RAND Social Health Battery (RSHB). Data were collected between July and August 2025 at the Stroke Center of Dadi Regional Special Hospital, Makassar. Statistical analyses were conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test. Results demonstrated significant improvement in cognitive function within the intervention group (p < 0.001), whereas no significant change was observed in the control group (p = 0.972). Social interaction also improved significantly in the intervention group (p < 0.001), though no significant difference was found between groups (p = 0.853). These findings suggest that Codenames may serve as an effective complementary therapy for cognitive stimulation and has potential to support social interaction when consistently implemented with family involvement.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health challenge, especially in countries with high disease burdens like Indonesia. Treatment non-adherence and reduced quality of life among TB patients continue to undermine control efforts. This systematic review seeks to explore how self-help group (SHG) interventions contribute to enhancing medication adherence and improving the quality of life (QoL) among individuals living with TB. A systematic review was followed the 2020 PRISMA guidelines. Comprehensive searches were performed across PubMed, Science Direct, ProQuest, Scopus, and Google Scholar using the PICO framework. Studies of various designs (RCTs, cohort, quasi-experimental, and cross-sectional) involving TB patients receiving SHG interventions were included. Eight eligible studies were critically appraised using the JBI checklist. Despite differences in design, participants, and SHG approaches such as patient education, motivation, emotional support, behavioral empowerment, and digital integration the studies consistently showed improvements in medication adherence and quality of life, supported by generally strong methodological quality. The findings highlight the importance of structured SHG models in nursing practice, supporting the development of community-based interventions and protocols that enhance TB treatment outcomes and patient well-being. Future studies should prioritize robust RCTs with diverse populations and long-term follow-up, including hybrid models that integrate digital technologies to ensure sustainable implementation in high-burden settings.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis is a serious health problem in Indonesia. Various factors including home environmental factors can cause tuberculosis. Aim: This study aimed to analyze the influence of home environmental factors (occupancy density, wall type, house ventilation, and floor type) on the incidence of tuberculosis in the Baturraden 1 Health Center Area. Method: This study is an analytical study with a case-control approach that examines the influence of home physical environment variables on the incidence of tuberculosis. The study sample consisted of 48 tuberculosis cases and 48 controls. The research instrument used questionnaires and observation sheets. Data collection will take place in December 2023. The study data were analyzed univariate, bivariate, and multivariate using SPSS 23. Result: The analysis showed that occupancy density influenced tuberculosis incidence in the Baturraden 1 Health Center area (p-value 0.025 OR: 5.549 95%CI: 1.362-22.604). This means that respondents who live in homes with ineligible densities are 5,549 times more likely to suffer from tuberculosis than respondents who live in homes with qualified population densities. Variables that do not affect the incidence of tuberculosis are the type of floor, type of wall, and ventilation of the house. Conclusion: The risk factor for tuberculosis is occupancy density which does not meet health requirements.

Abstract

Job satisfaction among health center employees is crucial to healthcare quality. At Palaran Health Center, Samarinda City, the Community Satisfaction Index (IKM) was 77.38 (2023) and 77.55 (2024), while several 2024 Minimum Service Standard (SPM) coverages were far below the 100% target (under-five health services 65.83%, productive-age services 5.08%, older adult services 28.01%, and tuberculosis services 48.33%). This cross-sectional study involved 89 employees selected through total sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires (March–August 2025) and analyzed with the Kolmogorov–Smirnov, chi-square, multiple linear, and logistic regression tests. Results showed that promotion opportunities, supervision, and coworker relationships significantly influenced job satisfaction (p<0.05), while age, gender, education, length of service, and employment status were not significant. Logistic regression identified promotion opportunities (p=0.027; Exp(B)=0.159) and supervision (p=0.001; Exp(B)=0.202) as key predictors. Strengthening transparent promotion mechanisms and supportive supervision can enhance employee satisfaction and improve service quality.
