Abstract

The relationship between green spaces and humans has long been recognized as one of the important aspects of life, especially in urban contexts. In urban environments, green spaces are often found in public areas, serving as places for recreation, sports, and social interaction, as well as helping to reduce pollution and noise. One common form of public space in Indonesia is the mosque, which not only functions as a place of worship but also plays an important role as a center for social, cultural, and educational activities. If a mosque provides green space, it can positively impact urban well-being. The aim of this research is to understand the role of green spaces in mosques in enhancing social interaction and human physical activity. The literature study method was used to collect and analyze previously published information related to the topic. Another method used is field observation with a behavior mapping approach to record and analyze social interactions and physical activities occurring in the green spaces of three mosques with different green space conditions over a certain period of time. The results of the study show that there are longer durations of social interactions and physical activities such as communicating, relaxing, playing, and worshiping in mosques with green spaces compared to those without green spaces. Thus, it is concluded that green spaces in mosques can be optimized as places for social interaction and physical activity, providing numerous benefits to the community, including improved physical and mental health and an overall enhanced quality of life.

Abstract

The impression created by the atmosphere of health facilities, especially mental health, can affect the psychological and physical state of patients. The application of biophilic architecture design in mental health care facilities is believed to help create a healing environment. Biophilic architecture inherently seeks to rebuild the relationship between humans and nature to improve human health and well-being. However, to implement biophilic design in mental health care facilities, there are criteria that must be met to ensure that the building does not have a negative impact on patients. This review was conducted to develop insights into how the application of biophilic design patterns can be applied to the interior and exterior of buildings in various mental health care facilities. The research object involves 2 mental health service facilities including Dr. Radjiman Wediodiningrat Mental Hospital in Malang and Horizon Rehab Center in Bangkok. The research method used was a descriptive qualitative method by focusing on the results of the implementation of biophilic design patterns in mental health care facilities. Analysis of the data revealed that 3 of the 14 biophilic design patterns, namely complexity & order, mystery and risk / danger, are not suitable for application in these buildings because they can have a negative effect on patients with mental disorders

Abstract

Early childhood education provides an important foundation in children's development with fun learning methods and purposeful play. They learn to interact. Talk, and develop motor skills through activities. Sekolah Alam Quwwatul Ummah Kedungtuban located in Blora district offers unique education with a nature-based approach and balanced with religious education for early childhood in the learning process, it is necessary to pay attention to the physical condition of the building behavioral comfort according to the character of the user. Therefore, this research aims to find out how space design, layout, and other architectural elements affect the behavioral comfort of children and their learning process at Sekolah Alam Quwwatul Ummah Kedungtuban. This research uses a qualitative method with data collection through observation and interviews to provide an in-depth understanding of users' perceptions, preferences, and subjective experiences of learning facilities. The results showed that more optimal learning facilities and environments to improve comfort behavior in interacting and children's development while learning is the goal to help children feel comfortable and safe in the environment. For example, easy accessibility, the application of space layout, providing interaction space, and facility design that adjusts the needs of this can affect the psychology of children as a result, children further improve the quality of learning.

Abstract

Building’s facade plays a crucial role in conveying a building's function and reflecting its identity. In apartment buildings, the facade serves as an aesthetic element to create an appealing building image, regulates light and airflow for inhabitant comfort, and provides protection against weather and environmental pollution. Indonesia's tropical climate and air pollution necessitate the adoption of Eco-Architecture in urban areas, especially in densely populated regions like loft complexes. By implementing these principles, facades can enhance environmental sustainability, improve thermal and visual comfort, and strengthen architectural expression. This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis to explore the relation between eco architecture principles and the appearance of apartment building facades so it can enhance both environmental sustainability and aesthetic value. The research discusses the concept and implementation of apartment building designs that integrate eco-architecture principles to foster sustainable and environmentally friendly living environments. It aims to inspire architects, designers, and developers to create apartment building facades that combine sustainability with attractive aesthetic features.

Abstract

Ragunan Zoo is a zoo located in the Ragunan area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, Indonesia. Established in 1864 as "Planten En Dierentuin" on a 2-hectare land donated by Raden Saleh. Significantly, visitors' interest in seeing animals increases, particularly birds. Birds are one of the favorite attractions for the public when visiting Ragunan Zoo. Ensuring a sufficient circulation area around the bird enclosures is crucial for the zoo management. To support the success of Ragunan Zoo as a popular tourist destination for the Indonesian public, pedestrian circulation is a vital factor to ensure its standard. The circulation, which has various classifications based on configuration, user, space relationships, and materials, makes it a complex issue that must be ensured for comfort. Research is conducted qualitatively and comparatively, by collecting data directly through site visits and comparing existing data.

Abstract

The application of local Indonesian culture in architectural design has become the main focus. This study aims to explore how local Indonesian culture is integrated into the architectural design of the Amanjiwo Hotel and Resort, located in Magelang Regency, Indonesia. The architectural design shows that Amanjiwo combines elements of local Indonesian culture, including art, traditional architecture and local philosophy, in its design. The concept of using local materials, the layout based on local traditions, and the integration of traditional art and ornaments all contribute to an atmosphere that enriches the guest experience. This research can provide a better understanding of the importance of accommodating local culture in the development of hospitality properties, not only as a decorative element, but also as a foundation for creating local identity and memorable experiences for guests. The results of this research are to strengthen awareness of cultural sustainability and the importance of paying attention to the local context in the development of the Amanjiwo Hotel and Resort. Future research could broaden this scope by comparing the application of local culture in architectural design. Maintaining the values found in the physical structure and outdoor space of the Amanjiwo Resort related to Javanese cultural and traditional architecture is the main focus.

Abstract

The development of globalization has encouraged the use of technology as a key element in facilitating access to information, social interaction, and expanding business connectivity. Technology has now become a secondary need that supports primary needs, including the application of smart systems such as building automation systems (BAS) for managing devices from inside and outside buildings. Additionally, sustainable innovations such as rainwater harvesting, biopores, grass blocks, and two-sided glass fountain technology also contribute to optimizing natural potential in landscape design. This journal aims to design a coffee shop in an Islamic-regulated area using an architectural approach aligned with Islamic values, principles, and guidelines, while integrating BAS as a form of technological innovation. This study employs a phenomenological research method with a descriptive qualitative approach, using ground research for data collection. The application of Islamic values in architecture and landscape design also includes the separation of zones between men and women, as an effort to preserve Aceh's identity, which upholds Islamic sharia law.

Abstract

Flats as an alternative alternative form of residence, must be able to provide a good quality of life. To determine the existing quality of life, a comprehensive study was carried out by identifying the character of the residents along with their occupation, income and educational background related to their behavior, especially towards public spaces and their use. Public space is the main focus of this research to empower the community economically considering that the majority of residents are low-income people. The design method used is a concept-based framework because it uses concepts as a way of organizing architectural responses. The main idea of designing public spaces in this research is the application of Islamic values because the population is Muslim. It is hoped that this design can be used as a recommendation for the design of public spaces in flats so that they are in accordance with Islamic values.
