Abstract

Background: bullying is a problem that never ages in school. Bullying continues to occur in schools. Currently, only the victims and perpetrators are being looked at a lot regarding the psychological impact they face. However, witnesses to bullying also experienced negative impacts due to the bullying, including for students at Islamic boarding schools who faced their friends 24 hours a day. Purpose: this study aims to explore the psychological impact of bullying witnesses on students in Islamic boarding schools. Methods: This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. The number of participants was five students who were selected using snowball sampling, with the criteria of being students who had witnessed bullying at an Islamic boarding school. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and field notes. The interviews were transcribed verbatim, and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis based on Colaizzi’s method. The process involved extracting significant statements, formulating meanings, clustering themes, and validating the findings with participants to ensure credibility. Results: this study produced 5 themes, namely the emotional reaction of bullying witnesses, feelings of guilt, sense of responsibility, coping mechanisms, and prevention strategies. Conclusion: bullying has a psychological impact on students, so it is necessary to intervene efforts that must be given so that they do not fall to further stages.

Abstract

Background: Adolescent mental health issues are on the rise, posing significant concerns due to their impact on learning effectiveness and the need for focused attention. To address these challenges, innovative tools are required to detect and mitigate mental health problems among adolescents. One such innovation is the CERDAS application. Purpose: This study evaluated a web-based assessment using the CERDAS App, which combines three interventions: mental health education, the butterfly hug technique, and expressive writing in addressing depression, anxiety, and stress among adolescents. Methods: This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest method. A total of 94 adolescents were selected through purposive sampling from a high school in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS)-21, Indonesian version, was used as the questionnaire within the CERDAS application. Data collection began with a pretest administered via the CERDAS App. Adolescents identified as experiencing mental health problems (depression, anxiety, or stress) were provided with interventions including mental health education, butterfly hugs, and expressive writing. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis for frequency distribution and bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon test. Results: The Wilcoxon test revealed significant improvements in the mental health status of adolescents (depression, anxiety, and stress) following the interventions, with p-values of 0.002, 0.008, and 0.001, respectively. Conclusion: The CERDAS application and its interventions demonstrate effectiveness in identifying and reducing adolescent mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and stress. Consequently, the CERDAS App  and its interventions is recommended as a practical tool for adolescents to enhance their mental well-being.

Abstract

Background: Mothers caring for children with chronic conditions often experience physical and psychological exhaustion, which affects their ability to master the required self-management skills. Social support is needed by mothers to master self-management of childcare with chronic conditions. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between social support and maternal self-management Methods: This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional research design. Data collection used the Patient-Perceived Self-Management Tasks questionnaire and the MOS Social Support Survey Instrument by RAND. Both questionnaires had been tested for validity and reliability before being used. The population were mothers who care for children with chronic conditions. A total of 204 participants were included in this study. The sample was obtained using purposive sampling by approaching eligible mothers in pediatric inpatient wards at selected hospitals. Data analysis used the spearman correlation test. Results: This study shows that the greatest social support is from a partner, with an average of 83.25, and the lowest support is support from friends, with an average score of 61.24, while the average value of maternal self-management is 61.48. The results also show a relationship between social support, namely partner support, friend support and health worker support on self-management of mothers caring for children with chronic conditions, while there is no significant relationship between health worker support and self-management of mothers caring for children with chronic conditions. Conclusion: Health workers need to maximize the social support mothers receive so that mothers can master and practice adequate self-management to achieve optimal health for children with chronic conditions.

Abstract

Background: The nursing profession in Southeast Asia is facing growing complexity due to demographic shifts, changing disease patterns, and rising demands for high-quality care. Regional efforts to enhance workforce mobility and standardize qualifications have led to the development of core competencies in common nursing. However, the national implementation remains inconsistent. Purpose: This study aimed to compare national nursing competency frameworks across ASEAN countries and to assess their alignment with the ASEAN regional core competency framework. Methods: Qualitative document analysis was conducted using national nursing competency frameworks, policy reports, and regulatory documents published between 2010 and 2023. Data were analyzed through deductive coding against regional competency domains and inductive identification of structural and thematic variations. Results: The study reviewed ten national frameworks and found substantial variations in structure and emphasis. Domains related to ethics and clinical practice were commonly addressed, whereas leadership and research were less consistently included. More recent frameworks showed a stronger alignment with regional standards, while older ones reflected a limited competency scope. Key challenges include regulatory fragmentation, inconsistent assessment systems, and gaps in education capacity. Conclusion: The findings highlight the need for greater regional policy coordination, the development of shared assessment tools, and investment in capacity building. Harmonizing nursing competencies across ASEAN countries is essential for improving educational consistency, patient care quality, and professional mobility.

Abstract

Background: Developing resilience among family caregivers of schizophrenia patients is challenging. Families must be able to identify risk factors and manage them to achieve a dynamic family situation and have the ability to survive while caring for schizophrenia patients. Protective factors interact with risk factors and create strength for families to be resilient in caring for people with schizophrenia. Results: T-statistics showed that there was an influence of family protective (p = 0.016) and family risk factors (p=0.003) on family caregivers’ resilience. Conclusions: Protective and risk factors of families with schizophrenia are the main resources in developing family caregivers’ resilience. To promote family health and effective adaptation to the schizophrenia long-term care, it is critical to improve family protective factors such as family functioning and social support and minimize family risk factors such as social stigma in schizophrenic families.
