Abstract

Improving the quality of mathematics learning is necessary to ensure students' in-depth understanding of the concepts. One approach is to develop innovative teaching materials. This research aims to develop and produce Student Activity Sheets (LKPD) based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) using Math City Maps on the topic of circles and arcs. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model. In the Analysis phase, results indicated that students experienced difficulty understanding the material on circles, necessitating an innovative LKPD based on PBL and Math City Map technology. The Design phase involved developing an initial format and storyboard. In the Development phase, the LKPD was validated by media and material experts with Aiken-V indices of 0.99 and 0.89, respectively, with an average of 0.94, categorized as "Very Valid." The Implementation phase included trials and practicality tests, with Aiken-V scores from students of 0.887 and 0.816 from practicing teachers, resulting in an average of 0.85, categorized as "Very Practical." The effectiveness of the Student Worksheet (LKPD) was assessed as "Very Effective" based on the improvement in student learning outcomes through pretests and posttests, observations of teacher and student activities (93.23%), and a paired t-test with a significance level of 0.000 indicating a significant difference. The evaluation stage was conducted formatively through revisions based on expert input and summatively based on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the extent to which self-confidence, self-efficacy, and learning motivation influence mathematical problem-solving abilities partially and simultaneously. A quantitative survey approach was used in this study, with data collection through questionnaires and data analysis that included classical assumption tests, Pearson correlation tests, and multiple linear regression tests. The results of the analysis concluded that self-confidence had a positive and significant effect on the dependent variable (r = 0.672, and R2 = 0.452), which means a strong and positive relationship with 45.2% of the dependent variable variation influenced by self-confidence. Likewise, self-efficacy had a positive and significant influence on the dependent variable (r = 0.684 and R² = 0.468), which means a strong and positive relationship with 46.8% of the dependent variable variance influenced by self-efficacy. In addition, learning motivation also has a positive and significant influence but is weaker than other variables on the dependent variable (r = 0.366 and R² = 0.134), which means that 13.4% of the variation in the dependent variable is influenced by learning motivation. Simultaneously, the three independent variables have a significant effect on the dependent variable (R = 0.816, R² = 0.665, p = 0), meaning that 66.5% of the variation in the dependent variable can be influenced by the three independent variables.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the process of reflection before instruction (reflection for action) carried out by mathematics teachers in planning classroom learning. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. It was conducted at SMP Negeri 40 Samarinda during the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, involving two mathematics teachers with more than ten years of teaching experience and certified as professional educators. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis. Data analysis included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by the ATLAS.ti 9 software. The validity of the data was ensured through methodological triangulation by comparing the results of interviews with instructional documents. The findings indicate that the reflection for action process encompasses analyzing students’ conditions, adjusting instructional materials, selecting teaching strategies, anticipating potential challenges, and preparing alternative solutions. This process was carried out systematically, taking into account prior teaching experiences, thereby making learning more adaptive and contextual to students’ needs. These findings affirm that reflection for action plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of mathematics lesson planning and implementation, and it has the potential to be applied across different educational levels and subject areas.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students’ mathematical representation ability in data presentation material based on VAK (Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic) learning styles. The background of this research arises from the fact that students’ representation ability is still relatively low, particularly in choosing appropriate diagrams, applying scales accurately, and interpreting data. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with six Grade X-L students from MAN 1 Lamongan selected through purposive sampling based on the VAK learning style questionnaire. Research instruments consisted of a representation ability test, a learning style questionnaire, and semi-structured interviews. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with methodological triangulation. The findings revealed differences in representation tendencies according to learning styles. Visual learners excelled in symbolic and visual representation but showed weaknesses in verbal aspects. Auditory learners demonstrated balanced abilities across all three aspects, with dominance in verbal representation, although their visual outputs were less neat. Kinesthetic learners were strong in concrete visual representation and fairly good in verbal expression but weak in symbolic representation. These results highlight that learning styles significantly influence variations in students’ mathematical representation abilities. Thus, teachers should consider students’ learning styles when designing instructional strategies to accommodate diverse characteristics and enhance the effectiveness of mathematics learning.

Abstract

The average mathematics score of eighth-grade students at MTsN Samarinda is still low (62.80). Students have difficulty solving modified problems, lack attention to detail, and show anxiety such as hesitation, lack of confidence, and fear of answering. This study aims to describe students' mathematical problem-solving abilities based on their level of mathematical anxiety in linear equation material. The research used a qualitative descriptive approach with eighth-grade students at MTsN Samarinda as the subjects. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that students with high anxiety have varying abilities: some experience difficulties in all stages of problem solving, but some are able to meet three indicators in some questions and only one indicator in other questions. They show somatic, cognitive, and attitudinal symptoms. Students with moderate anxiety are only able to meet three problem-solving indicators, with dominant symptoms in cognition and attitude. Meanwhile, students with low anxiety also showed varying abilities: some were able to meet all indicators on some questions, but others did not complete the final stage (rechecking) due to overconfidence and time constraints. The anxiety symptoms that appeared at low levels were mild and did not interfere with the problem-solving process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the development of a valid, practical, and effective mathematical logical thinking ability test instrument for flat geometry material for students at SMP Negeri 3 Mojoagung. This instrument is designed to objectively measure students' logical reasoning ability in solving problems related to geometric concepts of flat geometry. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) study, adapting the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. The research procedure follows the ADDIE model development stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. These stages are carried out sequentially and systematically to produce a valid, practical, and effective instrument. The results of this study indicate that the developed test instrument meets good quality criteria, namely the mathematical logical thinking ability test instrument (TKBLM) for flat geometry material is declared valid, practical, and effective. The validity of the TKBLM instrument can be seen from the TKBLM instrument validation percentage, which is 93%, categorized as very valid. The practicality of the TKBLM instrument can be seen from the percentage of the readability questionnaire, where 85% of students' results showed a ???? ≥ 75%. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of the media can be seen from the TKBLM results, where for each indicator, at least one student met the logical mathematical thinking indicator. Thus, this test instrument is suitable for use as an effective measurement tool to evaluate students' logical mathematical thinking skills in the material on plane figures.
