Abstract

The peusijuek ritual is a deeply embedded custom in the lives of the Acehnese people, serving as a symbol that shapes social and cultural identity. This study aims to analyze the historical aspects of peusijuek and its role in forming social identity in Aceh. Through a qualitative approach, data were collected via in-depth interviews with community leaders and literature studies. The results show that peusijuek is not merely a ceremonial ritual but a bridge connecting individuals with the community, creating solidarity, and strengthening the harmony between local traditions and Islamic religious values. The ritual involves symbolic elements such as rice and leaves, representing prosperity and peace. As a practical implication, this study recommends integrating peusijuek values into a local wisdom-based education curriculum to maintain the cultural identity of the younger generation amidst modernization.

Abstract

This study examines the digital transformation of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Samosir Regency from the perspective of economic sociology. Using a qualitative approach, the study explores how digitalization reshapes the socio-economic practices of MSMEs through an analysis of social interactions, institutional dynamics, and local community networks. The findings reveal that MSME digitalization is not merely a technological transition or the adoption of digital marketing tools but a broader transformation of socio-economic relations. Digital technologies have reshaped patterns of interaction, created new competitive fields, and shifted economic practices from traditional face-to-face transactions to digitally mediated exchanges. The study further shows that the success of digital transformation is strongly influenced by the embeddedness of economic activities within local social networks. Despite limited digital capabilities, MSME actors have adapted by relying on strong social capital, particularly kinship (marga) networks and local solidarity. Trust-based relationships within traditional communities have become essential resources for technological adaptation. In addition, the local government plays a strategic institutional role by enhancing digital capacity, expanding access to technology, and fostering an ecosystem that supports MSME participation in the digital economy. This study concludes that the digital transformation of MSMEs cannot be adequately explained solely through rational economic approaches emphasizing efficiency or marketing strategies. Instead, an economic sociology perspective demonstrates that social relations, habitus, and local social structures are the primary determinants of successful digital transformation. These findings contribute to the literature by highlighting that technological adoption is fundamentally a socially embedded process rather than merely a technological or economic phenomenon.

Abstract

Hedonism has become a collective phenomenon among students, especially at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu, influenced by social interaction, academic pressure, and consumerist culture through social media. This study aims to reveal the dynamics of hedonic lifestyle, the driving factors, manifestations, and their impact on students' academic and financial behaviour. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was used to explore the subjective meaning of the practice of hedonism. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five informants, participatory observation, and documentation. The results showed that peer pressure, social media influence, and emotional escape are the main drivers of hedonism. Students tend to spend money on branded goods, hang out in cafes, and use financial facilities such as e-wallets and paylater. This behaviour often leads to poor financial management and negligence in studies. From the perspective of social construction theory, hedonism reflects the process of identity formation and social acceptance shaped by the campus environment and the digital world. This study concludes that hedonic tendencies are not only an individual choice but also a social reality that requires institutional attention, particularly through financial literacy education and the creation of a supportive campus environment.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of excessive gadget use on adolescent sleep patterns in Ketajen Village. A quantitative approach was used with a survey method through a questionnaire to 50 adolescents aged 15-19 years. The questionnaire consisted of 15 questions covering the duration of gadget use, frequency of use before bedtime, and the impact on sleep quality. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify respondents' characteristics, as well as Pearson correlation and linear regression to evaluate the relationship and influence of gadget use on sleep patterns. The results showed that 75% of the respondents used gadgets for more than 3 hours a day, with 62.5% experiencing difficulty falling asleep and sleep duration of less than 7 hours each night. A total of 87.5% felt tired when they woke up, and another 87.5% woke up in the middle of the night to check their gadgets. Gadget use before bed also impacted concentration and daily activities. This study contributes to the international literature by focusing on the relationship between technology use and sleep quality in a rural context. Practically, the findings can be used by parents, educators and policy makers to manage gadget use to improve adolescents' sleep quality.
