Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the distribution of student learning styles, to determine the average mathematical communication skills that have Auditory, Visual, and Kinestatic learning styles. and to find out if there are significant differences in the ability of mathematical connections between students who have auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles. This research was conducted at SMAN 17 Pandeglang in class XII MIPA. The instrument used was in the form of a learning style questionnaire and a test of mathematical connection abilities. This type of research is a comparative study with a quantitative approach. Based on the results of data processing, that the distribution of student learning styles is included in the Auditory learning style of 34% of students, Visual 46% of students, and Kinesthetic 19% of students. By using a scale of 0-50, the average mathematical connection ability of students is 29.58, whereas when viewed from each distribution of learning styles, the average mathematical ability of auditory students is 24.89, visual students 28.33, and kinestatic students 34,40. Based on the results of the analysis with the ANOVA test and t test (Dunnet) that there is a significant difference in the ability of students' mathematical connections between auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning styles with a significant level of ? = 0.05, and the results of the value of Fcount > Ftable = 3.62 > 3,42, where the kinesthetic learning style has higher mathematical connection ability than auditory and visual learning styles.

Abstract

The use of technology in learning is very important according to the development of the times. However, the application of technology as a learning medium is still limited. The purpose of this research is to develop interactive multimedia mathematics to improve the learning motivation of early childhood. This research is conducted using a ADDIE model, which consists of four stages: analyze, designing, developing, implementation, and evaluation. Instrument of tis reserach is validation sheets and respons questionnaires. Expert validation is used to validate media consisting of media validation, material validation, and language validation, while student response questionnaires determine practicality. Average validation results from material experts of 3.4, media experts of 3.2, and language expert of 3.3. So that if averaged all, then the validation of mathematics learning media is 3.3 with good categories. Moreover, the practicality of media also shows that it can be easily applied. The observation data also support the effectiveness of the media during the implementation. The result shows that the media confirmed to be effective as it can improve the students' learning motivation.

Abstract

A quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest design was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the Strategic Instructional Material (SIM)-based teaching in improving the Science performance in Global Warming of the ninth grade students of a mountain school in Cebu City, Philippines. Two experimental groups consisting of 15 students each were exposed to the use of modules and SIM-based teaching respectively. Study findings revealed that both groups had Below Average performances in the pretest, and the former group had Average performance while the latter group had Above Average performance in the posttest. Moreover, both groups manifested significant mean improvement from the pretest to posttest, signifying the essential use of modules and SIM in the teaching-learning process. Experimental group 2 acquired higher mean gain than experimental group 1 and had a Very High perception towards the use of SIM in the teaching of Global Warming in Science. The study concluded that SIM-based teaching is a more effective scaffold in improving students’ performance in the concepts of Global Warming. Furthermore, the researchers recommend the use of SIM for remediation and regular classes, and encourage administrators, Science supervisors and teachers construct SIMs not only on least mastered skills but also on all skills covered by the lesson.

Abstract

Representation is the interpretation of students' thinking to a problem in the form of words or verbal, text, tables, graphs, or symbols of mathematics as an aid instrument to solve problems. Representation is an important process standard in mathematics learning. There are 3 representation process standards in learning. One of the materials that requires the ability of representation at junior high school level is relation. This study aimed at describing the mathematical representation process standard in learning mathematics in relation material. This study used a qualitative approach to the type of descriptive research. The research procedures in this article were (1) designing learning instruments, (2) implementing learning design in peer teaching, (3) conducting learning analysis related to the abilities. The results of the study showed that the first process standard was seen in apperception activity, Activity 1 on LKS (student worksheet), Activity 2 on LKS (student worksheet), group presentations, and exercises. The second process standard was seen prominently in the exercise activities, while the third process standard was seen prominently in Activity 2 on LKS (student worksheet). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the three process standards have been seen in almost all learning activities

Abstract

Comic books can be and are produced mainly for science communication. Comics are more favorable to be read by the students as comics engaged students in reading compared to thick science textbooks. This study explored the role of comics as an aid in teaching elementary school science on the topic of ‘Plant Systems’ using an action research approach. A total of 18 Grade 5 students from one of the elementary schools in Brunei Darussalam participated in the study. A 15-page fully colored comic featuring a leaf fairy character called ‘Nym’ was utilized to teach the students alongside various activities about plants during the intervention lessons. A pre-test was administered prior to the lesson to establish their existing knowledge of the topic, and then a post-test administered after all the intervention lessons were completed. The results from the achievement scores analyzed between the pre- and post-tests indicated that the students’ knowledge on ‘Plant Systems’ improved significantly. The students were found to be interested, engaged and enthusiastic in the use of comics as revealed from the thematic analysis of the interviews. There are also vast potentials for comics to be used regularly to support learning in science-related classrooms.

Abstract

Biology is a subject that learn topics about morphology, anatomy, and physiology, biodiversity, ecosystem, and the environment. Therefore, an appropriate learning approach is needed for students so that the topics will be received by students well. Learning is not only about a transfer of knowledge but also skills and attitudes. This article describes about learning approaches that can be applied to students in Biology. The research was a literature study method from various literature. There are three kinds of learning approaches that appropriate in Biology. They are Scientific Approach, Environmental Exploration Approach, and Local Wisdom and Cultural Approach. The characteristic of the scientific approach was scientific thinking. The characteristics of the Environmental Exploration Approach was an exploration in the environment, such as natural, social, and technology. The characteristic of the local wisdom and cultural approach was ethnobiology and ethnopedagogy studies in learning through science processes based on the level of knowledge, skills and attitudes of students. These three approaches were expected to be an alternative in learning Biology because they contain the principles of scientific processes and student centered learning in them to accommodate 21st-century education.

Abstract

Physics is one of the sciences that studies concepts, laws, formulas, and also real and abstract phenomena. Too many formulas in physics that must be understood by students, make students feel difficult and less enthusiastic in learning physics. One of the material that makes students like to forget is the material about unit conversions where the number of units that need to be remembered are units of length, acceleration, speed, energy and others. To solve this problem, it is necessary to make an application in the android system that can help in unit conversion and easily accessible. The method that will be used in this research is Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE Model. Through the ADDIE Model cycle, they are: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation and (5) Evaluation will be developed in this application. The results of the feasibility test from material experts are based on three aspects of assessment, namely the aspect of language, suitability of concepts and illustrations, which is in the feasible category with a total percentage of eligibility of 79,76%. Meanwhile, based on the results of the media expert feasibility test are based on three aspects of assessment, namely graphics, program processing and usage are in the very feasible category with a total percentage of eligibility of 88,89%.
